[rv-3-36] • 11 श्लोकाः

इमामू षु प्रभृतिं सातये धाः शश्वच्छश्वदूतिभिर्यादमानः । सुतेसुते वावृधे वर्धनेभिर्यः कर्मभिर्महद्भिः सुश्रुतो भूत् ॥

imāmū ṣu prabhṛtiṃ sātaye dhāḥ śaśvacchaśvadūtibhiryādamānaḥ | sutesute vāvṛdhe vardhanebhiryaḥ karmabhirmahadbhiḥ suśruto bhūt ||

Indra, who is constantly seeking (association) with your allies (the Maruts) accept this, our offering (made) for the grant (from you of riches); for you are one who grows with augmenting energies, through reiterated libations, and has been renowned for glorious deeds.

इन्द्राय सोमाः प्रदिवो विदाना ऋभुर्येभिर्वृषपर्वा विहायाः । प्रयम्यमानान्प्रति षू गृभायेन्द्र पिब वृषधूतस्य वृष्णः ॥

indrāya somāḥ pradivo vidānā ṛbhuryebhirvṛṣaparvā vihāyāḥ | prayamyamānānprati ṣū gṛbhāyendra piba vṛṣadhūtasya vṛṣṇaḥ ||

To Indra have libations been presented in the days of old, whereby he has become illustrious, the regulator of time, the granter of desires; accept, Indra, these prescribed (offerings), and drink of this auspicous (Soma), expressed by the stones.

पिबा वर्धस्व तव घा सुतास इन्द्र सोमासः प्रथमा उतेमे । यथापिबः पूर्व्याँ इन्द्र सोमाँ एवा पाहि पन्यो अद्या नवीयान् ॥

pibā vardhasva tava ghā sutāsa indra somāsaḥ prathamā uteme | yathāpibaḥ pūrvyā~ indra somā~ evā pāhi panyo adyā navīyān ||

Drink, Indra, and thrive; yours are these (present) libations, as were the primitive libations; you who is adorable, drink today the recent libations, as you drank those of old.

महाँ अमत्रो वृजने विरप्श्युग्रं शवः पत्यते धृष्ण्वोजः । नाह विव्याच पृथिवी चनैनं यत्सोमासो हर्यश्वममन्दन् ॥

mahā~ amatro vṛjane virapśyugraṃ śavaḥ patyate dhṛṣṇvojaḥ | nāha vivyāca pṛthivī canainaṃ yatsomāso haryaśvamamandan ||

The great Indra, the victorious in battle, the defier of foes; his fierce strength and resolute vigour are exerted; verily the earth does not contain him, neither (does the heaven), when the Soma libations exhilarate the lord of the tawny steeds.

महाँ उग्रो वावृधे वीर्याय समाचक्रे वृषभः काव्येन । इन्द्रो भगो वाजदा अस्य गावः प्र जायन्ते दक्षिणा अस्य पूर्वीः ॥

mahā~ ugro vāvṛdhe vīryāya samācakre vṛṣabhaḥ kāvyena | indro bhago vājadā asya gāvaḥ pra jāyante dakṣiṇā asya pūrvīḥ ||

The mighty, fierce, auspicious Indra, the showerer (of benefits), augments (in power) as he is animated for heroic (acts) by praise; his cattle are genitive rated givers of food; many are his donations.

प्र यत्सिन्धवः प्रसवं यथायन्नापः समुद्रं रथ्येव जग्मुः । अतश्चिदिन्द्रः सदसो वरीयान्यदीं सोमः पृणति दुग्धो अंशुः ॥

pra yatsindhavaḥ prasavaṃ yathāyannāpaḥ samudraṃ rathyeva jagmuḥ | ataścidindraḥ sadaso varīyānyadīṃ somaḥ pṛṇati dugdho aṃśuḥ ||

As the rivers pursue their course, the waters rush to the ocean like the drivers of cars (to a goal), so the vast Indra (hastens) from his dwelling (in the firmament), when the humble Som alibation propitiates him.

समुद्रेण सिन्धवो यादमाना इन्द्राय सोमं सुषुतं भरन्तः । अंशुं दुहन्ति हस्तिनो भरित्रैर्मध्वः पुनन्ति धारया पवित्रैः ॥

samudreṇa sindhavo yādamānā indrāya somaṃ suṣutaṃ bharantaḥ | aṃśuṃ duhanti hastino bharitrairmadhvaḥ punanti dhārayā pavitraiḥ ||

As the rivers are solicitious (to mix) with the ocean, so (are the priests) bearing the efficient libation to Indra; holding in their hands they milk the Soma, and purify the sweet Soma (as they fall) indrops through the purifying filters.

ह्रदा इव कुक्षयः सोमधानाः समी विव्याच सवना पुरूणि । अन्ना यदिन्द्रः प्रथमा व्याश वृत्रं जघन्वाँ अवृणीत सोमम् ॥

hradā iva kukṣayaḥ somadhānāḥ samī vivyāca savanā purūṇi | annā yadindraḥ prathamā vyāśa vṛtraṃ jaghanvā~ avṛṇīta somam ||

The stomach of Indra (is) as capacious (a receptacle) of Soma, as a lake, for he has partaken of it at many sacrifices; and inasmuch as he has eaten the first (sacrificial) viands, he has been the slayer of Vṛtra, and has shared the Soma (with the gods).

आ तू भर माकिरेतत्परि ष्ठाद्विद्मा हि त्वा वसुपतिं वसूनाम् । इन्द्र यत्ते माहिनं दत्रमस्त्यस्मभ्यं तद्धर्यश्व प्र यन्धि ॥

ā tū bhara mākiretatpari ṣṭhādvidmā hi tvā vasupatiṃ vasūnām | indra yatte māhinaṃ datramastyasmabhyaṃ taddharyaśva pra yandhi ||

Quickly, Indra, bring (wealth); let no one impede you, for we know you to be the lord of wealth, of all treasures; and since, Indra, your greatness is munificence, therefore, lord of the tawny steeds, grant us (riches).

अस्मे प्र यन्धि मघवन्नृजीषिन्निन्द्र रायो विश्ववारस्य भूरेः । अस्मे शतं शरदो जीवसे धा अस्मे वीराञ्छश्वत इन्द्र शिप्रिन् ॥

asme pra yandhi maghavannṛjīṣinnindra rāyo viśvavārasya bhūreḥ | asme śataṃ śarado jīvase dhā asme vīrāñchaśvata indra śiprin ||

Opulent Indra, receiver of the spiritless Soma, give to us riches in universally desired quantity; grant us to live a hundred years; bestow upon us, Indra wiht the handsome chin, numerous posterity.

शुनं हुवेम मघवानमिन्द्रमस्मिन्भरे नृतमं वाजसातौ । शृण्वन्तमुग्रमूतये समत्सु घ्नन्तं वृत्राणि संजितं धनानाम् ॥

śunaṃ huvema maghavānamindramasminbhare nṛtamaṃ vājasātau | śṛṇvantamugramūtaye samatsu ghnantaṃ vṛtrāṇi saṃjitaṃ dhanānām ||

We invoke for our protection the opulent Indra, distinguished in this combat; the leader in the food-bestowing (strife), hearing (our praises), terrible in battles, the destroyer of foes, the conqueror of wealth.
