[rv-3-34] • 11 श्लोकाः

इन्द्रः पूर्भिदातिरद्दासमर्कैर्विदद्वसुर्दयमानो वि शत्रून् । ब्रह्मजूतस्तन्वा वावृधानो भूरिदात्र आपृणद्रोदसी उभे ॥

indraḥ pūrbhidātiraddāsamarkairvidadvasurdayamāno vi śatrūn | brahmajūtastanvā vāvṛdhāno bhūridātra āpṛṇadrodasī ubhe ||

Indra, the destroyer of cities, possessed of wealth manifesting (his greatness), merciless to his enemies has overspread the day with his radiance; attracted by prayer, increasing in bulk, and armed with many weapons, he has delighted both heaven and earth.

मखस्य ते तविषस्य प्र जूतिमियर्मि वाचममृताय भूषन् । इन्द्र क्षितीनामसि मानुषीणां विशां दैवीनामुत पूर्वयावा ॥

makhasya te taviṣasya pra jūtimiyarmi vācamamṛtāya bhūṣan | indra kṣitīnāmasi mānuṣīṇāṃ viśāṃ daivīnāmuta pūrvayāvā ||

Decorating you, I address sincere prayers to you who are adorable and mighty, for the sake of (obtaining) food; you, Indra are the preceder of men the descendants of manu, and of the descendants of the gods.

इन्द्रो वृत्रमवृणोच्छर्धनीतिः प्र मायिनाममिनाद्वर्पणीतिः । अहन्व्यंसमुशधग्वनेष्वाविर्धेना अकृणोद्राम्याणाम् ॥

indro vṛtramavṛṇocchardhanītiḥ pra māyināmaminādvarpaṇītiḥ | ahanvyaṃsamuśadhagvaneṣvāvirdhenā akṛṇodrāmyāṇām ||

Indra, of glorious deeds, destroyed Vṛtra; resistless in combat, he has overcome the deceivers resolved to consume him; he slew the mutilated (demon lurking) in the woods, and made manifest the (stolen) kine (that had been hidden) in the night.

इन्द्रः स्वर्षा जनयन्नहानि जिगायोशिग्भिः पृतना अभिष्टिः । प्रारोचयन्मनवे केतुमह्नामविन्दज्ज्योतिर्बृहते रणाय ॥

indraḥ svarṣā janayannahāni jigāyośigbhiḥ pṛtanā abhiṣṭiḥ | prārocayanmanave ketumahnāmavindajjyotirbṛhate raṇāya ||

Indra, the giver of svarga, genitive rating the days, has subdued victorious with the eager (aṅgirasas) the hostile hosts, and illuminingfor man the banner of the days, he obtained light for the great conflict.

इन्द्रस्तुजो बर्हणा आ विवेश नृवद्दधानो नर्या पुरूणि । अचेतयद्धिय इमा जरित्रे प्रेमं वर्णमतिरच्छुक्रमासाम् ॥

indrastujo barhaṇā ā viveśa nṛvaddadhāno naryā purūṇi | acetayaddhiya imā jaritre premaṃ varṇamatiracchukramāsām ||

Indra entered the confiding hostile (hosts) like a man distributing many (gifts) to (his) leaders; he has animated these dawns for the worshipper, and heightened their bright radiance (by his own).

महो महानि पनयन्त्यस्येन्द्रस्य कर्म सुकृता पुरूणि । वृजनेन वृजिनान्त्सं पिपेष मायाभिर्दस्यूँरभिभूत्योजाः ॥

maho mahāni panayantyasyendrasya karma sukṛtā purūṇi | vṛjanena vṛjināntsaṃ pipeṣa māyābhirdasyū~rabhibhūtyojāḥ ||

They celebrate many great and glorious exploits of this mighty Indra; he crushed the strong by his strength, and, of overpowering prowess, he overcame the dasyus by delusions.

युधेन्द्रो मह्ना वरिवश्चकार देवेभ्यः सत्पतिश्चर्षणिप्राः । विवस्वतः सदने अस्य तानि विप्रा उक्थेभिः कवयो गृणन्ति ॥

yudhendro mahnā varivaścakāra devebhyaḥ satpatiścarṣaṇiprāḥ | vivasvataḥ sadane asya tāni viprā ukthebhiḥ kavayo gṛṇanti ||

Lord of the virtuous, fulfiller of the wishes of men, he gave to the gods the wealth (that had been won) in fierce battle, and therefore far-seeing sages glorify those his exploits with praises in the dwelling of the worshipper.

सत्रासाहं वरेण्यं सहोदां ससवांसं स्वरपश्च देवीः । ससान यः पृथिवीं द्यामुतेमामिन्द्रं मदन्त्यनु धीरणासः ॥

satrāsāhaṃ vareṇyaṃ sahodāṃ sasavāṃsaṃ svarapaśca devīḥ | sasāna yaḥ pṛthivīṃ dyāmutemāmindraṃ madantyanu dhīraṇāsaḥ ||

Devout worshippers propitiate Indra, the victorious, the excellent, the bestower of strength, the enjoyer of heaven and the divine waters, and who was the giver of the earth and heaven and this (firmament to their inhabitants).

ससानात्याँ उत सूर्यं ससानेन्द्रः ससान पुरुभोजसं गाम् । हिरण्ययमुत भोगं ससान हत्वी दस्यून्प्रार्यं वर्णमावत् ॥

sasānātyā~ uta sūryaṃ sasānendraḥ sasāna purubhojasaṃ gām | hiraṇyayamuta bhogaṃ sasāna hatvī dasyūnprāryaṃ varṇamāvat ||

He gave horses, he gave also the sun, and Indra gave also the many-nourishing cow; he gave golden treasure, and having destroyed the dasyus, he protected the ārya tribe.

इन्द्र ओषधीरसनोदहानि वनस्पतीँरसनोदन्तरिक्षम् । बिभेद वलं नुनुदे विवाचोऽथाभवद्दमिताभिक्रतूनाम् ॥

indra oṣadhīrasanodahāni vanaspatī~rasanodantarikṣam | bibheda valaṃ nunude vivāco'thābhavaddamitābhikratūnām ||

Indra bestowed plural nts and days, he gave trees and the firmament,he divided the cloud, he scattered opponents, he was the tamer of adversaries.

शुनं हुवेम मघवानमिन्द्रमस्मिन्भरे नृतमं वाजसातौ । शृण्वन्तमुग्रमूतये समत्सु घ्नन्तं वृत्राणि संजितं धनानाम् ॥

śunaṃ huvema maghavānamindramasminbhare nṛtamaṃ vājasātau | śṛṇvantamugramūtaye samatsu ghnantaṃ vṛtrāṇi saṃjitaṃ dhanānām ||

We invoke for our protection the opulent Indra, distinguished in this combat, the leader in the food-bestowing (strife), hearing (our praises), terrible in battles, the destroyer of foes, the conqueror of wealth.
