[rv-3-27] • 15 श्लोकाः

प्र वो वाजा अभिद्यवो हविष्मन्तो घृताच्या । देवाञ्जिगाति सुम्नयुः ॥

pra vo vājā abhidyavo haviṣmanto ghṛtācyā | devāñjigāti sumnayuḥ ||

The months, the half months, (the gods) who are the receivers of oblations, with the butter-yielding kine, preside over your rite; the sacrificer, desirous of prosperity, worships the gods.

ईऴे अग्निं विपश्चितं गिरा यज्ञस्य साधनम् । श्रुष्टीवानं धितावानम् ॥

īḻe agniṃ vipaścitaṃ girā yajñasya sādhanam | śruṣṭīvānaṃ dhitāvānam ||

I worship with praise the wise Agni, the accomplisher of sacrifice, the possessor of happiness, the repository of wealth.

अग्ने शकेम ते वयं यमं देवस्य वाजिनः । अति द्वेषांसि तरेम ॥

agne śakema te vayaṃ yamaṃ devasya vājinaḥ | ati dveṣāṃsi tarema ||

May we offering oblations effect the detention of you is divine (until the completion of the rite), and may we (thereby) overcome all animosities.

समिध्यमानो अध्वरेऽग्निः पावक ईड्यः । शोचिष्केशस्तमीमहे ॥

samidhyamāno adhvare'gniḥ pāvaka īḍyaḥ | śociṣkeśastamīmahe ||

We solicit that Agni, who is being kindled at the sacrifice, the purifier, the adorable, whose hair is flame.

पृथुपाजा अमर्त्यो घृतनिर्णिक्स्वाहुतः । अग्निर्यज्ञस्य हव्यवाट् ॥

pṛthupājā amartyo ghṛtanirṇiksvāhutaḥ | agniryajñasya havyavāṭ ||

Agni, the bright-shining, the immortal, the cleanser with clarified butter, the fitly-involved, the bearer of the oblation in the sacrifice.

तं सबाधो यतस्रुच इत्था धिया यज्ञवन्तः । आ चक्रुरग्निमूतये ॥

taṃ sabādho yatasruca itthā dhiyā yajñavantaḥ | ā cakruragnimūtaye ||

The exorcisers (of the demons), lifting up their ladles, and offering sacrifice, have called upon Agni by this ceremony for their protection.

होता देवो अमर्त्यः पुरस्तादेति मायया । विदथानि प्रचोदयन् ॥

hotā devo amartyaḥ purastādeti māyayā | vidathāni pracodayan ||

The offerer of the oblation, the divine, immortal, Agni, comes first (at the ceremony) directing solemnities by his experiences.

वाजी वाजेषु धीयतेऽध्वरेषु प्र णीयते । विप्रो यज्ञस्य साधनः ॥

vājī vājeṣu dhīyate'dhvareṣu pra ṇīyate | vipro yajñasya sādhanaḥ ||

The mighty Agni is plural ced (foremost by the gods) in battle; he is brought forward reverently at holy rites; for he is the sage fulfiller of the sacrifice.

धिया चक्रे वरेण्यो भूतानां गर्भमा दधे । दक्षस्य पितरं तना ॥

dhiyā cakre vareṇyo bhūtānāṃ garbhamā dadhe | dakṣasya pitaraṃ tanā ||

He who has been made by the sacred rite, the choice (of the worshipper), who comprehends (within himself) the germ of all creatures, and whom the daughter of Dakṣa (receives) as the parent of the world.

नि त्वा दधे वरेण्यं दक्षस्येऴा सहस्कृत । अग्ने सुदीतिमुशिजम् ॥

ni tvā dadhe vareṇyaṃ dakṣasyeḻā sahaskṛta | agne sudītimuśijam ||

Agni, strength-engendered, Iḷā (the daughter) of Dakṣa has sustained you, the desirable, the resplendent, and longing (for the oblation).

अग्निं यन्तुरमप्तुरमृतस्य योगे वनुषः । विप्रा वाजैः समिन्धते ॥

agniṃ yanturamapturamṛtasya yoge vanuṣaḥ | viprā vājaiḥ samindhate ||

The wise (priests) performers (of the ceremony) kindle with oblations for the due celebration of the rite, Agni, the regulator (of all), the sender of the rain.

ऊर्जो नपातमध्वरे दीदिवांसमुप द्यवि । अग्निमीऴे कविक्रतुम् ॥

ūrjo napātamadhvare dīdivāṃsamupa dyavi | agnimīḻe kavikratum ||

I adore at this sacrifice Agni the grandson of (sacrificial) food, shining above in the firmament, the creation of the wise.

ईऴेन्यो नमस्यस्तिरस्तमांसि दर्शतः । समग्निरिध्यते वृषा ॥

īḻenyo namasyastirastamāṃsi darśataḥ | samagniridhyate vṛṣā ||

Agni, who is to be worshipped with praise and with prostration, the dispeller of darkness, the beautiful, the showerer (of benefits) is kindled.

वृषो अग्निः समिध्यतेऽश्वो न देववाहनः । तं हविष्मन्त ईऴते ॥

vṛṣo agniḥ samidhyate'śvo na devavāhanaḥ | taṃ haviṣmanta īḻate ||

The offerers of oblations glorify that Agni who is the showerer (of benefits) and is the bearer of the offerings to the gods as a horse (bears his rider to his home).

वृषणं त्वा वयं वृषन्वृषणः समिधीमहि । अग्ने दीद्यतं बृहत् ॥

vṛṣaṇaṃ tvā vayaṃ vṛṣanvṛṣaṇaḥ samidhīmahi | agne dīdyataṃ bṛhat ||

Showerer (of benefits) we profusely offering (oblations) kindle you mighty and resplendent Agni, who is the sender of showers.
