[rv-3-26] • 9 श्लोकाः

वैश्वानरं मनसाग्निं निचाय्या हविष्मन्तो अनुषत्यं स्वर्विदम् । सुदानुं देवं रथिरं वसूयवो गीर्भी रण्वं कुशिकासो हवामहे ॥

vaiśvānaraṃ manasāgniṃ nicāyyā haviṣmanto anuṣatyaṃ svarvidam | sudānuṃ devaṃ rathiraṃ vasūyavo gīrbhī raṇvaṃ kuśikāso havāmahe ||

We of the race of Kuśika offering oblations, desirous of wealth, having contemplated him in our minds, invoke with praises the divine Vaiśvānara, the observer of truth, the cognizant of heaven, the bountiful, the charioteer, the frequenter (of sacrifices).

तं शुभ्रमग्निमवसे हवामहे वैश्वानरं मातरिश्वानमुक्थ्यम् । बृहस्पतिं मनुषो देवतातये विप्रं श्रोतारमतिथिं रघुष्यदम् ॥

taṃ śubhramagnimavase havāmahe vaiśvānaraṃ mātariśvānamukthyam | bṛhaspatiṃ manuṣo devatātaye vipraṃ śrotāramatithiṃ raghuṣyadam ||

We invoke you for our own protection and for the devotions of mankind, the radiant Agni, Vaiśvānara, the illuminator of the firmament, the adorable lord of sacred rites, the wise, the hearer (of supplications), the guest (of man), the quick-moving.

अश्वो न क्रन्दञ्जनिभिः समिध्यते वैश्वानरः कुशिकेभिर्युगेयुगे । स नो अग्निः सुवीर्यं स्वश्व्यं दधातु रत्नममृतेषु जागृविः ॥

aśvo na krandañjanibhiḥ samidhyate vaiśvānaraḥ kuśikebhiryugeyuge | sa no agniḥ suvīryaṃ svaśvyaṃ dadhātu ratnamamṛteṣu jāgṛviḥ ||

Vaiśvānara is kindled in every age by the Kuśikas as a neighing foal (is nourished) by its mother; may that Agni, vigilant among the immortals, give us wealth with excellent offspring and good horses.

प्र यन्तु वाजास्तविषीभिरग्नयः शुभे सम्मिश्लाः पृषतीरयुक्षत । बृहदुक्षो मरुतो विश्ववेदसः प्र वेपयन्ति पर्वताँ अदाभ्याः ॥

pra yantu vājāstaviṣībhiragnayaḥ śubhe sammiślāḥ pṛṣatīrayukṣata | bṛhadukṣo maruto viśvavedasaḥ pra vepayanti parvatā~ adābhyāḥ ||

May the swift fires combined with the vigorous winds proceed to the pure (region of the water), uniting the drops (of rain); the Maruts irresistible, all-knowing, agitate the copious-shedding clouds.

अग्निश्रियो मरुतो विश्वकृष्टय आ त्वेषमुग्रमव ईमहे वयम् । ते स्वानिनो रुद्रिया वर्षनिर्णिजः सिंहा न हेषक्रतवः सुदानवः ॥

agniśriyo maruto viśvakṛṣṭaya ā tveṣamugramava īmahe vayam | te svānino rudriyā varṣanirṇijaḥ siṃhā na heṣakratavaḥ sudānavaḥ ||

The fire-beautified, all-agitating Maruts; we seek their fierce radiance for protection; they, the sons of Rudra, the bountiful Maruts, whose form is the rain, are loudlike roaring lions.

व्रातंव्रातं गणंगणं सुशस्तिभिरग्नेर्भामं मरुतामोज ईमहे । पृषदश्वासो अनवभ्रराधसो गन्तारो यज्ञं विदथेषु धीराः ॥

vrātaṃvrātaṃ gaṇaṃgaṇaṃ suśastibhiragnerbhāmaṃ marutāmoja īmahe | pṛṣadaśvāso anavabhrarādhaso gantāro yajñaṃ vidatheṣu dhīrāḥ ||

We solicit the might of the Maruts, the irradiation of Agni with solemn prayers in every assembly and company (of worshippers); those Maruts who ahve partly-coloured steeds, who are dispensers of unfailing wealth, firm (of purpose), and frequenters of sacrifices.

अग्निरस्मि जन्मना जातवेदा घृतं मे चक्षुरमृतं म आसन् । अर्कस्त्रिधातू रजसो विमानोऽजस्रो घर्मो हविरस्मि नाम ॥

agnirasmi janmanā jātavedā ghṛtaṃ me cakṣuramṛtaṃ ma āsan | arkastridhātū rajaso vimāno'jasro gharmo havirasmi nāma ||

I, Agni, am by birth endowed with knowledge of all that exists; clarified butter is my eye; ambrosia is my mouth; I am the living breath of threefold nature, the measure of the firmament, eternal warmth; I am also the oblation.

त्रिभिः पवित्रैरपुपोद्ध्यर्कं हृदा मतिं ज्योतिरनु प्रजानन् । वर्षिष्ठं रत्नमकृत स्वधाभिरादिद्द्यावापृथिवी पर्यपश्यत् ॥

tribhiḥ pavitrairapupoddhyarkaṃ hṛdā matiṃ jyotiranu prajānan | varṣiṣṭhaṃ ratnamakṛta svadhābhirādiddyāvāpṛthivī paryapaśyat ||

Agni, thoroughly comprehending the light that is to be understod by the heart, has purified himself (by the three) purifying (forms); he has made himself most excellent treasure by (these) self-manifestations, and has thence contemplated heaven and earth.

शतधारमुत्समक्षीयमाणं विपश्चितं पितरं वक्त्वानाम् । मेऴिं मदन्तं पित्रोरुपस्थे तं रोदसी पिपृतं सत्यवाचम् ॥

śatadhāramutsamakṣīyamāṇaṃ vipaścitaṃ pitaraṃ vaktvānām | meḻiṃ madantaṃ pitrorupasthe taṃ rodasī pipṛtaṃ satyavācam ||

Heaven and earth be kind to that stage who is as it were a many-cahnneled and inexhaustible stream (of knowledge); the parent (of his disciples), the collater of holy texts, rejoicing on the lap of his parents,, whose words are truth.
