[rv-2-29] • 7 श्लोकाः

धृतव्रता आदित्या इषिरा आरे मत्कर्त रहसूरिवागः । शृण्वतो वो वरुण मित्र देवा भद्रस्य विद्वाँ अवसे हुवे वः ॥

dhṛtavratā ādityā iṣirā āre matkarta rahasūrivāgaḥ | śṛṇvato vo varuṇa mitra devā bhadrasya vidvā~ avase huve vaḥ ||

Ādityas, upholders of pious works, and who are to be sought by all, remove sin far from me, like a woman delivered in secret; knowing, Mitra, Varuṇa and (universal) gods, the good that follows from your hearing our prayers, I invoke you for (our) protection.

यूयं देवाः प्रमतिर्यूयमोजो यूयं द्वेषांसि सनुतर्युयोत । अभिक्षत्तारो अभि च क्षमध्वमद्या च नो मृऴयतापरं च ॥

yūyaṃ devāḥ pramatiryūyamojo yūyaṃ dveṣāṃsi sanutaryuyota | abhikṣattāro abhi ca kṣamadhvamadyā ca no mṛḻayatāparaṃ ca ||

You, gods, are intelligence, you are vigour; do you drive away the malevolent subduers (of enemies), overcome them entirely, and grant us felicity both now and in future.

किमू नु वः कृणवामापरेण किं सनेन वसव आप्येन । यूयं नो मित्रावरुणादिते च स्वस्तिमिन्द्रामरुतो दधात ॥

kimū nu vaḥ kṛṇavāmāpareṇa kiṃ sanena vasava āpyena | yūyaṃ no mitrāvaruṇādite ca svastimindrāmaruto dadhāta ||

What may we do for you, gods, either now, or in the future; what may we do, Vasus, by perpetual and practicable (acts of devotion); do you, Mitra, Varuṇa, Aditi, Indra and the Maruts, maintain our bell-being.

हये देवा यूयमिदापयः स्थ ते मृऴत नाधमानाय मह्यम् । मा वो रथो मध्यमवाऴृते भून्मा युष्मावत्स्वापिषु श्रमिष्म ॥

haye devā yūyamidāpayaḥ stha te mṛḻata nādhamānāya mahyam | mā vo ratho madhyamavāḻṛte bhūnmā yuṣmāvatsvāpiṣu śramiṣma ||

O Gods, you, verily, are our kinsmen; being so, grant felicity to me your suppliant; let not your chariot be tardy in coming to the sacrifice; let us never be weary of relatives such as you are.

प्र व एको मिमय भूर्यागो यन्मा पितेव कितवं शशास । आरे पाशा आरे अघानि देवा मा माधि पुत्रे विमिव ग्रभीष्ट ॥

pra va eko mimaya bhūryāgo yanmā piteva kitavaṃ śaśāsa | āre pāśā āre aghāni devā mā mādhi putre vimiva grabhīṣṭa ||

Alone among you, I have committed many offences, (which correct) as a father corrects a naughty (son); far from me, gods, bebonds; far from be sins; size not upon me (your) son as (a fowler) catches a bird.

अर्वाञ्चो अद्या भवता यजत्रा आ वो हार्दि भयमानो व्ययेयम् । त्राध्वं नो देवा निजुरो वृकस्य त्राध्वं कर्तादवपदो यजत्राः ॥

arvāñco adyā bhavatā yajatrā ā vo hārdi bhayamāno vyayeyam | trādhvaṃ no devā nijuro vṛkasya trādhvaṃ kartādavapado yajatrāḥ ||

Adorable (deities), be present today, that, apprehensive of danger, I may feel sure of your healthy (support); protect us, gods, from the rapacity of the wolf; protect us, adorable (deities), from him who would work us misfortune.

माहं मघोनो वरुण प्रियस्य भूरिदाव्न आ विदं शूनमापेः । मा रायो राजन्त्सुयमादव स्थां बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

māhaṃ maghono varuṇa priyasya bhūridāvna ā vidaṃ śūnamāpeḥ | mā rāyo rājantsuyamādava sthāṃ bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

May I never (have to) represent, Varuṇa, the destitution of a (once) opulent, dear, and munificent kinsman; may I never, royal (Varuṇa), be devoid of well-regulated riches, and may we, blessed with excellent descendants, worthily glorify you at this sacrifice.
