[rv-2-20] • 9 श्लोकाः

वयं ते वय इन्द्र विद्धि षु णः प्र भरामहे वाजयुर्न रथम् । विपन्यवो दीध्यतो मनीषा सुम्नमियक्षन्तस्त्वावतो नॄन् ॥

vayaṃ te vaya indra viddhi ṣu ṇaḥ pra bharāmahe vājayurna ratham | vipanyavo dīdhyato manīṣā sumnamiyakṣantastvāvato nṝn ||

We bring to you, Indra, (sacrificial) food, as one desiring food brings his wagon; regard us benevolently when glorifying you, rendering (you) illustrious by (our) praise, and soliciting such guides as you are to felicity.

त्वं न इन्द्र त्वाभिरूती त्वायतो अभिष्टिपासि जनान् । त्वमिनो दाशुषो वरूतेत्थाधीरभि यो नक्षति त्वा ॥

tvaṃ na indra tvābhirūtī tvāyato abhiṣṭipāsi janān | tvamino dāśuṣo varūtetthādhīrabhi yo nakṣati tvā ||

(Defend us), Indra, with your protections, for you are the defender against enemies of those men who rely upon you; you are the lord of the offerer (of the libation) and the repeller (of foes), and with these acts (protect) him who worships you.

स नो युवेन्द्रो जोहूत्रः सखा शिवो नरामस्तु पाता । यः शंसन्तं यः शशमानमूती पचन्तं च स्तुवन्तं च प्रणेषत् ॥

sa no yuvendro johūtraḥ sakhā śivo narāmastu pātā | yaḥ śaṃsantaṃ yaḥ śaśamānamūtī pacantaṃ ca stuvantaṃ ca praṇeṣat ||

May that young, adorable Indra, ever be the friend, the benefactor, and protector of us, his worshipper; who, with his protection, may conduct (to the object of his worship) him who repeats (to him) prayer and praise, who prepares the oblation, and recites (his) commendations.

तमु स्तुष इन्द्रं तं गृणीषे यस्मिन्पुरा वावृधुः शाशदुश्च । स वस्वः कामं पीपरदियानो ब्रह्मण्यतो नूतनस्यायोः ॥

tamu stuṣa indraṃ taṃ gṛṇīṣe yasminpurā vāvṛdhuḥ śāśaduśca | sa vasvaḥ kāmaṃ pīparadiyāno brahmaṇyato nūtanasyāyoḥ ||

I laud that Indra, I glorify him, in whom of old (his worshippers) prospered, and overcame (their enemies); may he, when solicited, gratify the desire of wealth of his present pious adorer.

सो अङ्गिरसामुचथा जुजुष्वान्ब्रह्मा तूतोदिन्द्रो गातुमिष्णन् । मुष्णन्नुषसः सूर्येण स्तवानश्नस्य चिच्छिश्नथत्पूर्व्याणि ॥

so aṅgirasāmucathā jujuṣvānbrahmā tūtodindro gātumiṣṇan | muṣṇannuṣasaḥ sūryeṇa stavānaśnasya cicchiśnathatpūrvyāṇi ||

Propitiated by the hymns of the Aṅgirasas, Indra granted their prayer, and directed them on the way (to recover their cattle); carrying off the dawns by the (light of the) sun, he, animated by praise, demolished the ancient cities of Aśna.

स ह श्रुत इन्द्रो नाम देव ऊर्ध्वो भुवन्मनुषे दस्मतमः । अव प्रियमर्शसानस्य साह्वाञ्छिरो भरद्दासस्य स्वधावान् ॥

sa ha śruta indro nāma deva ūrdhvo bhuvanmanuṣe dasmatamaḥ | ava priyamarśasānasya sāhvāñchiro bharaddāsasya svadhāvān ||

May the renowned and graceful Indra, who is verily divine, be present over men; may he, the vigorous conqueror of foes, cast down the precious head of the malignant Dāsa.

स वृत्रहेन्द्रः कृष्णयोनीः पुरंदरो दासीरैरयद्वि । अजनयन्मनवे क्षामपश्च सत्रा शंसं यजमानस्य तूतोत् ॥

sa vṛtrahendraḥ kṛṣṇayonīḥ puraṃdaro dāsīrairayadvi | ajanayanmanave kṣāmapaśca satrā śaṃsaṃ yajamānasya tūtot ||

Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, the destroyer of cities, has scattered the black-sprung servile (hosts); he engendered the earth and the waters for Manu; may he fulfill the entire prayer of the sacrificer.

तस्मै तवस्यमनु दायि सत्रेन्द्राय देवेभिरर्णसातौ । प्रति यदस्य वज्रं बाह्वोर्धुर्हत्वी दस्यून्पुर आयसीर्नि तारीत् ॥

tasmai tavasyamanu dāyi satrendrāya devebhirarṇasātau | prati yadasya vajraṃ bāhvordhurhatvī dasyūnpura āyasīrni tārīt ||

Vigour has been perpetually imparted to Indra by his worshippers (with oblations), for the sake of obtaining rain; for which purpose they have plural ced the thunderbolt in his hands, wherewith,having slain the Dasyus, he has destroyed their metal cities.

नूनं सा ते प्रति वरं जरित्रे दुहीयदिन्द्र दक्षिणा मघोनी । शिक्षा स्तोतृभ्यो माति धग्भगो नो बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

nūnaṃ sā te prati varaṃ jaritre duhīyadindra dakṣiṇā maghonī | śikṣā stotṛbhyo māti dhagbhago no bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

That opulent donation which proceeds, Indra, from you, assuredly bestows upon him who praises you, the boon (that he desires); grant it to us yor adorers; do not you, who are the object of adoration, disregard our prayers; so that, blessed with worthy descendants, we may glorify you in this sacrifice.
