[rv-2-19] • 9 श्लोकाः

अपाय्यस्यान्धसो मदाय मनीषिणः सुवानस्य प्रयसः । यस्मिन्निन्द्रः प्रदिवि वावृधान ओको दधे ब्रह्मण्यन्तश्च नरः ॥

apāyyasyāndhaso madāya manīṣiṇaḥ suvānasya prayasaḥ | yasminnindraḥ pradivi vāvṛdhāna oko dadhe brahmaṇyantaśca naraḥ ||

It has been partaken (by Indra) for his exhilaration, of this agreeable (sacrificial) food, the libation of his devout (worshipper); thriving by which ancient (Soma),he has bestowed a (fitting) dwelling, where the adoring conductors (of the ceremony) abide.

अस्य मन्दानो मध्वो वज्रहस्तोऽहिमिन्द्रो अर्णोवृतं वि वृश्चत् । प्र यद्वयो न स्वसराण्यच्छा प्रयांसि च नदीनां चक्रमन्त ॥

asya mandāno madhvo vajrahasto'himindro arṇovṛtaṃ vi vṛścat | pra yadvayo na svasarāṇyacchā prayāṃsi ca nadīnāṃ cakramanta ||

Exhilarated by the Soma, Indra, armed with the thunderbolt, severed the rain-confining cloud; whereupon the currents of the rivers proceeded (towards the ocean), like birds to their own nests.

स माहिन इन्द्रो अर्णो अपां प्रैरयदहिहाच्छा समुद्रम् । अजनयत्सूर्यं विदद्गा अक्तुनाह्नां वयुनानि साधत् ॥

sa māhina indro arṇo apāṃ prairayadahihācchā samudram | ajanayatsūryaṃ vidadgā aktunāhnāṃ vayunāni sādhat ||

The adorable Indra, the slayer of Ahi, sent the current of the waters towards the ocean; he genitive rated the sun; he discovered the cattle; he effected the manifestation of the days by light.

सो अप्रतीनि मनवे पुरूणीन्द्रो दाशद्दाशुषे हन्ति वृत्रम् । सद्यो यो नृभ्यो अतसाय्यो भूत्पस्पृधानेभ्यः सूर्यस्य सातौ ॥

so apratīni manave purūṇīndro dāśaddāśuṣe hanti vṛtram | sadyo yo nṛbhyo atasāyyo bhūtpaspṛdhānebhyaḥ sūryasya sātau ||

To the presenter (ofthe libation) Indra gives many unparalleled gifts; he slays Vṛtra; he who was the arbiter among his worshippers when contending for the possession of the Sun.

स सुन्वत इन्द्रः सूर्यमा देवो रिणङ्मर्त्याय स्तवान् । आ यद्रयिं गुहदवद्यमस्मै भरदंशं नैतशो दशस्यन् ॥

sa sunvata indraḥ sūryamā devo riṇaṅmartyāya stavān | ā yadrayiṃ guhadavadyamasmai bharadaṃśaṃ naitaśo daśasyan ||

The divine Indra, when lauded (by Etaśa), humbled the Sun (in behalf) of the mortal who offered to him the libation; for the munificent Etaśa presented him with mysterious and inestimable riches; as (a father gives) his portion (to a son).

स रन्धयत्सदिवः सारथये शुष्णमशुषं कुयवं कुत्साय । दिवोदासाय नवतिं च नवेन्द्रः पुरो व्यैरच्छम्बरस्य ॥

sa randhayatsadivaḥ sārathaye śuṣṇamaśuṣaṃ kuyavaṃ kutsāya | divodāsāya navatiṃ ca navendraḥ puro vyairacchambarasya ||

The radiant Indra subjected to Kutsa, his charioteer, (the asuras), Śuṣṇa, Aśuṣa, and Kuyava; and, for the sake of Divodāsa, demolished the ninety and nine cities of Śambara.

एवा त इन्द्रोचथमहेम श्रवस्या न त्मना वाजयन्तः । अश्याम तत्साप्तमाशुषाणा ननमो वधरदेवस्य पीयोः ॥

evā ta indrocathamahema śravasyā na tmanā vājayantaḥ | aśyāma tatsāptamāśuṣāṇā nanamo vadharadevasya pīyoḥ ||

Through desire of food, Indra, we, contributing to your vigour, spontaneously address to you (our) praise; secure of you, may we rely upon your friendship; hurl your thunderbolt against the godless Pīyu.

एवा ते गृत्समदाः शूर मन्मावस्यवो न वयुनानि तक्षुः । ब्रह्मण्यन्त इन्द्र ते नवीय इषमूर्जं सुक्षितिं सुम्नमश्युः ॥

evā te gṛtsamadāḥ śūra manmāvasyavo na vayunāni takṣuḥ | brahmaṇyanta indra te navīya iṣamūrjaṃ sukṣitiṃ sumnamaśyuḥ ||

Thus, hero, have the Gṛtsamadas

नूनं सा ते प्रति वरं जरित्रे दुहीयदिन्द्र दक्षिणा मघोनी । शिक्षा स्तोतृभ्यो माति धग्भगो नो बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

nūnaṃ sā te prati varaṃ jaritre duhīyadindra dakṣiṇā maghonī | śikṣā stotṛbhyo māti dhagbhago no bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

That opulent donation which proceeds, Indra, from you, assuredly bestows upon him who praises you, the boon (that he desires); grant it to us yor adorers; do not you, who are the object of adoration, disregard our prayers; so that, blessed with worthy descendants, we may glorify you in this sacrifice.
