[rv-10-67] • 12 श्लोकाः

इमां धियं सप्तशीर्ष्णीं पिता न ऋतप्रजातां बृहतीमविन्दत् । तुरीयं स्विज्जनयद्विश्वजन्योऽयास्य उक्थमिन्द्राय शंसन् ॥

imāṃ dhiyaṃ saptaśīrṣṇīṃ pitā na ṛtaprajātāṃ bṛhatīmavindat | turīyaṃ svijjanayadviśvajanyo'yāsya ukthamindrāya śaṃsan ||

This great seven-headed ceremony, born of truth our father (Aṅgirasa) discovered; Ayāsya, thefrined of all races, engendered the fourth (genitive ration), reciting a hymn to Indra.

ऋतं शंसन्त ऋजु दीध्याना दिवस्पुत्रासो असुरस्य वीराः । विप्रं पदमङ्गिरसो दधाना यज्ञस्य धाम प्रथमं मनन्त ॥

ṛtaṃ śaṃsanta ṛju dīdhyānā divasputrāso asurasya vīrāḥ | vipraṃ padamaṅgiraso dadhānā yajñasya dhāma prathamaṃ mananta ||

Reciting sincere praise, reflecting correctly, the Aṅgirasas, the pious sons of the brilliant and powerful(Agni), upholding the intelligent base, the supporter of the sacrifice, praise from the beginning.

हंसैरिव सखिभिर्वावदद्भिरश्मन्मयानि नहना व्यस्यन् । बृहस्पतिरभिकनिक्रदद्गा उत प्रास्तौदुच्च विद्वाँ अगायत् ॥

haṃsairiva sakhibhirvāvadadbhiraśmanmayāni nahanā vyasyan | bṛhaspatirabhikanikradadgā uta prāstauducca vidvā~ agāyat ||

With his friends (the Maruts) clamouring like geese, throwing open the (asuras') cattle-folds made ofstone, Bṛhaspati calling aloud (desires to carry off) the cows; knowing all things he praises (the gods) andchants (their laudation).

अवो द्वाभ्यां पर एकया गा गुहा तिष्ठन्तीरनृतस्य सेतौ । बृहस्पतिस्तमसि ज्योतिरिच्छन्नुदुस्रा आकर्वि हि तिस्र आवः ॥

avo dvābhyāṃ para ekayā gā guhā tiṣṭhantīranṛtasya setau | bṛhaspatistamasi jyotiricchannudusrā ākarvi hi tisra āvaḥ ||

Bṛhaspati purposing to bring light into the darkness drove out the cows standing in the cave in theplace of darkness below by two (ways), and those above by one (way); he opened the three (doors of the

विभिद्या पुरं शयथेमपाचीं निस्त्रीणि साकमुदधेरकृन्तत् । बृहस्पतिरुषसं सूर्यं गामर्कं विवेद स्तनयन्निव द्यौः ॥

vibhidyā puraṃ śayathemapācīṃ nistrīṇi sākamudadherakṛntat | bṛhaspatiruṣasaṃ sūryaṃ gāmarkaṃ viveda stanayanniva dyauḥ ||

Resting near it, demolishing the western city, Bṛhaspati wrested at once from Vala the three, thedawn, the sun, the cow; thundering like the heaven, he proclaimed the adorable (Sun).

इन्द्रो वलं रक्षितारं दुघानां करेणेव वि चकर्ता रवेण । स्वेदाञ्जिभिराशिरमिच्छमानोऽरोदयत्पणिमा गा अमुष्णात् ॥

indro valaṃ rakṣitāraṃ dughānāṃ kareṇeva vi cakartā raveṇa | svedāñjibhirāśiramicchamāno'rodayatpaṇimā gā amuṣṇāt ||

Indra with his voice as with an (armed) hand clove Vala the defender of hte kine; desirous of themixture (of milk and Soma) he with (the Maruts)k, who were shining with person iration, destroyed Paṇi andliberated the cows.

स ईं सत्येभिः सखिभिः शुचद्भिर्गोधायसं वि धनसैरदर्दः । ब्रह्मणस्पतिर्वृषभिर्वराहैर्घर्मस्वेदेभिर्द्रविणं व्यानट् ॥

sa īṃ satyebhiḥ sakhibhiḥ śucadbhirgodhāyasaṃ vi dhanasairadardaḥ | brahmaṇaspatirvṛṣabhirvarāhairgharmasvedebhirdraviṇaṃ vyānaṭ ||

Together with his true brilliant wealth-winning friendly (Maruts) he destroyed the detainer of the cows;Brahmaṇaspati, with the showerers (of benefits), the conveyers of desirable (water), the frequenters of sacrifice,acquired wealth.

ते सत्येन मनसा गोपतिं गा इयानास इषणयन्त धीभिः । बृहस्पतिर्मिथोअवद्यपेभिरुदुस्रिया असृजत स्वयुग्भिः ॥

te satyena manasā gopatiṃ gā iyānāsa iṣaṇayanta dhībhiḥ | bṛhaspatirmithoavadyapebhirudusriyā asṛjata svayugbhiḥ ||

They with truthful mind searching for the cows resolved by their exploits to make him the lord of cattle;Bṛhaspati with his self-yoked (allied) mutually defending each other from reproach, set free the kind.

तं वर्धयन्तो मतिभिः शिवाभिः सिंहमिव नानदतं सधस्थे । बृहस्पतिं वृषणं शूरसातौ भरेभरे अनु मदेम जिष्णुम् ॥

taṃ vardhayanto matibhiḥ śivābhiḥ siṃhamiva nānadataṃ sadhasthe | bṛhaspatiṃ vṛṣaṇaṃ śūrasātau bharebhare anu madema jiṣṇum ||

Magnifying the victorious Bṛhaspati, the showerer (of benefits), roaring in mid-heaven like a lion, letus praise him in the conflicts where heroes win, with auspicious praises.

यदा वाजमसनद्विश्वरूपमा द्यामरुक्षदुत्तराणि सद्म । बृहस्पतिं वृषणं वर्धयन्तो नाना सन्तो बिभ्रतो ज्योतिरासा ॥

yadā vājamasanadviśvarūpamā dyāmarukṣaduttarāṇi sadma | bṛhaspatiṃ vṛṣaṇaṃ vardhayanto nānā santo bibhrato jyotirāsā ||

When he acquires food of various kinds, when he ascends the sky or the northern stations, (the godsare) extolling Bṛhaspati, the showerer (of benefits), with their mouth, being in various (quarters), bearing light.

सत्यामाशिषं कृणुता वयोधै कीरिं चिद्ध्यवथ स्वेभिरेवैः । पश्चा मृधो अप भवन्तु विश्वास्तद्रोदसी शृणुतं विश्वमिन्वे ॥

satyāmāśiṣaṃ kṛṇutā vayodhai kīriṃ ciddhyavatha svebhirevaiḥ | paścā mṛdho apa bhavantu viśvāstadrodasī śṛṇutaṃ viśvaminve ||

Make good our prayer for the bestowal of food; you protect through your movements even (me) yourprayer).

इन्द्रो मह्ना महतो अर्णवस्य वि मूर्धानमभिनदर्बुदस्य । अहन्नहिमरिणात्सप्त सिन्धून्देवैर्द्यावापृथिवी प्रावतं नः ॥

indro mahnā mahato arṇavasya vi mūrdhānamabhinadarbudasya | ahannahimariṇātsapta sindhūndevairdyāvāpṛthivī prāvataṃ naḥ ||

Indra by his might has cleft the brow of the vast watery cloud, he has slain Ahi; he has made the sevenrivers flow; do you, heaven and earth, along with the gods, protect us.
