[rv-10-17] • 14 श्लोकाः

त्वष्टा दुहित्रे वहतुं कृणोतीतीदं विश्वं भुवनं समेति । यमस्य माता पर्युह्यमाना महो जाया विवस्वतो ननाश ॥

tvaṣṭā duhitre vahatuṃ kṛṇotītīdaṃ viśvaṃ bhuvanaṃ sameti | yamasya mātā paryuhyamānā maho jāyā vivasvato nanāśa ||

Tvaṣṭā celebrates the marriage of his daughter; therefore, the whole world is assembled; but themother of Yama, the newly-married wife of the mighty Vivasvat, disappeared.

अपागूहन्नमृतां मर्त्येभ्यः कृत्वी सवर्णामददुर्विवस्वते । उताश्विनावभरद्यत्तदासीदजहादु द्वा मिथुना सरण्यूः ॥

apāgūhannamṛtāṃ martyebhyaḥ kṛtvī savarṇāmadadurvivasvate | utāśvināvabharadyattadāsīdajahādu dvā mithunā saraṇyūḥ ||

The gods concealing the immortal (Sarṇyū) for th esake of mortals and having formed her, gave herto Vivasvat. She bore the two Aśvins when this had happened and then Saraṇyū gave birth to two twins.

पूषा त्वेतश्च्यावयतु प्र विद्वाननष्टपशुर्भुवनस्य गोपाः । स त्वैतेभ्यः परि ददत्पितृभ्योऽग्निर्देवेभ्यः सुविदत्रियेभ्यः ॥

pūṣā tvetaścyāvayatu pra vidvānanaṣṭapaśurbhuvanasya gopāḥ | sa tvaitebhyaḥ pari dadatpitṛbhyo'gnirdevebhyaḥ suvidatriyebhyaḥ ||

May the discriminating Pūṣan, whose cattle are never lost, the protector of all beings, transfer youhence (to a better world); may he give you to these Pitṛs; may Agni (give) you to the beneficent gods.

आयुर्विश्वायुः परि पासति त्वा पूषा त्वा पातु प्रपथे पुरस्तात् । यत्रासते सुकृतो यत्र ते ययुस्तत्र त्वा देवः सविता दधातु ॥

āyurviśvāyuḥ pari pāsati tvā pūṣā tvā pātu prapathe purastāt | yatrāsate sukṛto yatra te yayustatra tvā devaḥ savitā dadhātu ||

May the all-pervading Vāyu protect you, may Pūṣan (preserve) you, (going) first on the excellentpath (to heaven); may the divine Savitā plural ce you, where the virtuous abide, whither they have gone.

पूषेमा आशा अनु वेद सर्वाः सो अस्माँ अभयतमेन नेषत् । स्वस्तिदा आघृणिः सर्ववीरोऽप्रयुच्छन्पुर एतु प्रजानन् ॥

pūṣemā āśā anu veda sarvāḥ so asmā~ abhayatamena neṣat | svastidā āghṛṇiḥ sarvavīro'prayucchanpura etu prajānan ||

Pūṣan knows all these regions severally; met him conduct us by (the path) that is most free fromperil; let him precede us, who is the giver of prosperity, endowed with radiance, accompanied by all pious men,ever vigilant, and knowing our (deserts).

प्रपथे पथामजनिष्ट पूषा प्रपथे दिवः प्रपथे पृथिव्याः । उभे अभि प्रियतमे सधस्थे आ च परा च चरति प्रजानन् ॥

prapathe pathāmajaniṣṭa pūṣā prapathe divaḥ prapathe pṛthivyāḥ | ubhe abhi priyatame sadhasthe ā ca parā ca carati prajānan ||

Pūṣan has been born on the best path of paths, on the best path of heaven on the best path ofearth, he goes forward and backward over both (worlds), the assemblies longed for by all, discriminating (themerits of the dead).

सरस्वतीं देवयन्तो हवन्ते सरस्वतीमध्वरे तायमाने । सरस्वतीं सुकृतो अह्वयन्त सरस्वती दाशुषे वार्यं दात् ॥

sarasvatīṃ devayanto havante sarasvatīmadhvare tāyamāne | sarasvatīṃ sukṛto ahvayanta sarasvatī dāśuṣe vāryaṃ dāt ||

The devout invoke Sarasvatī; they worship Sarasvatī at the strewn sacrifice; the virtuous call uponSarasvatī; may Sarasvatī bestow blessings upon the donor (of the oblation).

सरस्वति या सरथं ययाथ स्वधाभिर्देवि पितृभिर्मदन्ती । आसद्यास्मिन्बर्हिषि मादयस्वानमीवा इष आ धेह्यस्मे ॥

sarasvati yā sarathaṃ yayātha svadhābhirdevi pitṛbhirmadantī | āsadyāsminbarhiṣi mādayasvānamīvā iṣa ā dhehyasme ||

Divine Sarasvatī, who rides in the same chariot with the Pitṛs, and delighted (along with them) by the(sacrificial) viands, seated on the sacred grass gratified (by our offering, and grant us wholesome food. worshippers at this sacrifice a portion of food fit for thousands, and increase of riches.

सरस्वतीं यां पितरो हवन्ते दक्षिणा यज्ञमभिनक्षमाणाः । सहस्रार्घमिऴो अत्र भागं रायस्पोषं यजमानेषु धेहि ॥

sarasvatīṃ yāṃ pitaro havante dakṣiṇā yajñamabhinakṣamāṇāḥ | sahasrārghamiḻo atra bhāgaṃ rāyaspoṣaṃ yajamāneṣu dhehi ||

Details:

आपो अस्मान्मातरः शुन्धयन्तु घृतेन नो घृतप्वः पुनन्तु । विश्वं हि रिप्रं प्रवहन्ति देवीरुदिदाभ्यः शुचिरा पूत एमि ॥

āpo asmānmātaraḥ śundhayantu ghṛtena no ghṛtapvaḥ punantu | viśvaṃ hi ripraṃ pravahanti devīrudidābhyaḥ śucirā pūta emi ||

May the maternal waters, purify us; may the shedders of water purify us with the effusion; for thedivine (waters) bear away all sin; I come away from them purified (to heaven).

द्रप्सश्चस्कन्द प्रथमाँ अनु द्यूनिमं च योनिमनु यश्च पूर्वः । समानं योनिमनु संचरन्तं द्रप्सं जुहोम्यनु सप्त होत्राः ॥

drapsaścaskanda prathamā~ anu dyūnimaṃ ca yonimanu yaśca pūrvaḥ | samānaṃ yonimanu saṃcarantaṃ drapsaṃ juhomyanu sapta hotrāḥ ||

The Soma has risen to the earthly and heavenly (worlds), both this visible world, and that which(existed) before (it); I offer that Soma flowing through the common region (of heaven and earth) after the sacrifice(offered by the) seven (officiating priests).

यस्ते द्रप्सः स्कन्दति यस्ते अंशुर्बाहुच्युतो धिषणाया उपस्थात् । अध्वर्योर्वा परि वा यः पवित्रात्तं ते जुहोमि मनसा वषट्कृतम् ॥

yaste drapsaḥ skandati yaste aṃśurbāhucyuto dhiṣaṇāyā upasthāt | adhvaryorvā pari vā yaḥ pavitrāttaṃ te juhomi manasā vaṣaṭkṛtam ||

Soma, which escapes (from the hide), your filaments which let fall from the hands (of the priestescape) from the vicinity of the plural nks (of the press), or (from the hand) of the Adhvaryu, or from the filter; I offer itall with my mind (to Agni) with the word vaṣat.

यस्ते द्रप्सः स्कन्नो यस्ते अंशुरवश्च यः परः स्रुचा । अयं देवो बृहस्पतिः सं तं सिञ्चतु राधसे ॥

yaste drapsaḥ skanno yaste aṃśuravaśca yaḥ paraḥ srucā | ayaṃ devo bṛhaspatiḥ saṃ taṃ siñcatu rādhase ||

Your juice and your filaments, (Soma), which escape, and which fall from the ladle on this side or onthat; may this divine Bṛhaspati sprinkle it for our enrichment.

पयस्वतीरोषधयः पयस्वन्मामकं वचः । अपां पयस्वदित्पयस्तेन मा सह शुन्धत ॥

payasvatīroṣadhayaḥ payasvanmāmakaṃ vacaḥ | apāṃ payasvaditpayastena mā saha śundhata ||

(Waters)! the plural nts flourish by means of water my prayer is effectual through water; the essence ofwater is vigorous through water; purify me with it.
