[rv-1-86] • 10 श्लोकाः

मरुतो यस्य हि क्षये पाथा दिवो विमहसः । स सुगोपातमो जनः ॥

maruto yasya hi kṣaye pāthā divo vimahasaḥ | sa sugopātamo janaḥ ||

The man in whose mansion, resplendent Maruts, descending from the sky, you drink (the libation), is provided with most able protectors.

यज्ञैर्वा यज्ञवाहसो विप्रस्य वा मतीनाम् । मरुतः शृणुता हवम् ॥

yajñairvā yajñavāhaso viprasya vā matīnām | marutaḥ śṛṇutā havam ||

Maruts, bearers of oblations, hear the invocation of the praises of the worshipper with or (without) sacrifices.

उत वा यस्य वाजिनोऽनु विप्रमतक्षत । स गन्ता गोमति व्रजे ॥

uta vā yasya vājino'nu vipramatakṣata | sa gantā gomati vraje ||

And may he for whom ministrant priests have sharp-ended the sapient (troop of the Maruts), walk among pastures crowded with cattle.

अस्य वीरस्य बर्हिषि सुतः सोमो दिविष्टिषु । उक्थं मदश्च शस्यते ॥

asya vīrasya barhiṣi sutaḥ somo diviṣṭiṣu | ukthaṃ madaśca śasyate ||

The libation is poured out for the hero at the sacrifice, on the appointed days, and the hymn is repeated, and their (is excited).

अस्य श्रोषन्त्वा भुवो विश्वा यश्चर्षणीरभि । सूरं चित्सस्रुषीरिषः ॥

asya śroṣantvā bhuvo viśvā yaścarṣaṇīrabhi | sūraṃ citsasruṣīriṣaḥ ||

May the Maruts, victorious over all men, hear (the praises) of this (their worshipper), and may (abundant) food be obtained by him who praises them.

पूर्वीभिर्हि ददाशिम शरद्भिर्मरुतो वयम् । अवोभिश्चर्षणीनाम् ॥

pūrvībhirhi dadāśima śaradbhirmaruto vayam | avobhiścarṣaṇīnām ||

Enjoying the protection of you who behold all things, we have offered you, Maruts, (oblations) for many years.

सुभगः स प्रयज्यवो मरुतो अस्तु मर्त्यः । यस्य प्रयांसि पर्षथ ॥

subhagaḥ sa prayajyavo maruto astu martyaḥ | yasya prayāṃsi parṣatha ||

Maruts, who are to be especially worshipped, may the man whose offering you accept be ever prosperous.

शशमानस्य वा नरः स्वेदस्य सत्यशवसः । विदा कामस्य वेनतः ॥

śaśamānasya vā naraḥ svedasya satyaśavasaḥ | vidā kāmasya venataḥ ||

Possessors of true vigour, be cognizant of the wishes of him who praises you, and toils in your service, desirous of (your favour).

यूयं तत्सत्यशवस आविष्कर्त महित्वना । विध्यता विद्युता रक्षः ॥

yūyaṃ tatsatyaśavasa āviṣkarta mahitvanā | vidhyatā vidyutā rakṣaḥ ||

Possessors of true vigour, you have displayed your might, with the lustre (of which) you have destroyed the rākṣasas.

गूहता गुह्यं तमो वि यात विश्वमत्रिणम् । ज्योतिष्कर्ता यदुश्मसि ॥

gūhatā guhyaṃ tamo vi yāta viśvamatriṇam | jyotiṣkartā yaduśmasi ||

Dissipate the concealing darkness; drive away every devouring (foe); show us the light we long for.
