[rv-1-53] • 11 श्लोकाः

न्यू षु वाचं प्र महे भरामहे गिर इन्द्राय सदने विवस्वतः । नू चिद्धि रत्नं ससतामिवाविदन्न दुःष्टुतिर्द्रविणोदेषु शस्यते ॥

nyū ṣu vācaṃ pra mahe bharāmahe gira indrāya sadane vivasvataḥ | nū ciddhi ratnaṃ sasatāmivāvidanna duḥṣṭutirdraviṇodeṣu śasyate ||

We ever offer fitting praise to the mighty Indra, in the dwelling of the worshpper, by which he (the deity) has quickly acquired riches, as (a thief) hastily hastily carried (off the property) of the sleeping. Praise ill expressed is not valued among the munificent.

दुरो अश्वस्य दुर इन्द्र गोरसि दुरो यवस्य वसुन इनस्पतिः । शिक्षानरः प्रदिवो अकामकर्शनः सखा सखिभ्यस्तमिदं गृणीमसि ॥

duro aśvasya dura indra gorasi duro yavasya vasuna inaspatiḥ | śikṣānaraḥ pradivo akāmakarśanaḥ sakhā sakhibhyastamidaṃ gṛṇīmasi ||

You, Indra, are the giver of horses, of cattle, or barley, the master and protector of wealth, the foremost in liberality, (the being) of many days; you disappoint not desires (addressed to you); you are a friend to our friend; such an Indra we praise.

शचीव इन्द्र पुरुकृद्द्युमत्तम तवेदिदमभितश्चेकिते वसु । अतः संगृभ्याभिभूत आ भर मा त्वायतो जरितुः काममूनयीः ॥

śacīva indra purukṛddyumattama tavedidamabhitaścekite vasu | ataḥ saṃgṛbhyābhibhūta ā bhara mā tvāyato jarituḥ kāmamūnayīḥ ||

Wise and resplendent Indra, the achiever of great deeds, the riches that are spread around are known to be yours; having collected them, victor (over your enemies), bring them to us; disappoint not the expectation of the worshipper who trusts in you.

एभिर्द्युभिः सुमना एभिरिन्दुभिर्निरुन्धानो अमतिं गोभिरश्विना । इन्द्रेण दस्युं दरयन्त इन्दुभिर्युतद्वेषसः समिषा रभेमहि ॥

ebhirdyubhiḥ sumanā ebhirindubhirnirundhāno amatiṃ gobhiraśvinā | indreṇa dasyuṃ darayanta indubhiryutadveṣasaḥ samiṣā rabhemahi ||

Propitiated by these offerings, be these libations, dispel poverty with cattle and horses; may we subduing our adversary, and relived from enemies by Indra, (plural ased) by our libations, enjoy together abundant food.

समिन्द्र राया समिषा रभेमहि सं वाजेभिः पुरुश्चन्द्रैरभिद्युभिः । सं देव्या प्रमत्या वीरशुष्मया गोअग्रयाश्वावत्या रभेमहि ॥

samindra rāyā samiṣā rabhemahi saṃ vājebhiḥ puruścandrairabhidyubhiḥ | saṃ devyā pramatyā vīraśuṣmayā goagrayāśvāvatyā rabhemahi ||

Indra, may we become possessed of riches, and of food; and with energies agreeable to many, and shining around, may we prosper through your divine favour, the source of prowess, of cattle and of horses.

ते त्वा मदा अमदन्तानि वृष्ण्या ते सोमासो वृत्रहत्येषु सत्पते । यत्कारवे दश वृत्राण्यप्रति बर्हिष्मते नि सहस्राणि बर्हयः ॥

te tvā madā amadantāni vṛṣṇyā te somāso vṛtrahatyeṣu satpate | yatkārave daśa vṛtrāṇyaprati barhiṣmate ni sahasrāṇi barhayaḥ ||

Those who were your allies, (the Maruts), brought you joy; protector of the pious, those libations and oblations (that were offered you on slaying Vṛtra), yielded you delight, when you, unimpeded by foes, did destroy the ten thousand obstacles oposed to him who praised you and offered you oblations.

युधा युधमुप घेदेषि धृष्णुया पुरा पुरं समिदं हंस्योजसा । नम्या यदिन्द्र सख्या परावति निबर्हयो नमुचिं नाम मायिनम् ॥

yudhā yudhamupa ghedeṣi dhṛṣṇuyā purā puraṃ samidaṃ haṃsyojasā | namyā yadindra sakhyā parāvati nibarhayo namuciṃ nāma māyinam ||

Humiliator (of adversaries), you go from battle to battle, and destroy by your might city after city; with you foe-prostrating associate, (the thunderbolt), you Indra, did slay afar off the deceiver named Namuci.

त्वं करञ्जमुत पर्णयं वधीस्तेजिष्ठयातिथिग्वस्य वर्तनी । त्वं शता वङ्गृदस्याभिनत्पुरोऽनानुदः परिषूता ऋजिश्वना ॥

tvaṃ karañjamuta parṇayaṃ vadhīstejiṣṭhayātithigvasya vartanī | tvaṃ śatā vaṅgṛdasyābhinatpuro'nānudaḥ pariṣūtā ṛjiśvanā ||

You have slain Karañja and Parṇaya with your bright gleaming spear, in the cause of Atithigva; unaided, you did demolish the hundred cities of Vaṅgrida, when besieged by Ṛjiṣvan.

त्वमेताञ्जनराज्ञो द्विर्दशाबन्धुना सुश्रवसोपजग्मुषः । षष्टिं सहस्रा नवतिं नव श्रुतो नि चक्रेण रथ्या दुष्पदावृणक् ॥

tvametāñjanarājño dvirdaśābandhunā suśravasopajagmuṣaḥ | ṣaṣṭiṃ sahasrā navatiṃ nava śruto ni cakreṇa rathyā duṣpadāvṛṇak ||

You, renowned Indra, overthrown by your not-to-be- overtaken chariot-wheel, the twenty kings of men, who had come against Suśravas unaided, and their sixty thousand and ninety-nine followers.

त्वमाविथ सुश्रवसं तवोतिभिस्तव त्रामभिरिन्द्र तूर्वयाणम् । त्वमस्मै कुत्समतिथिग्वमायुं महे राज्ञे यूने अरन्धनायः ॥

tvamāvitha suśravasaṃ tavotibhistava trāmabhirindra tūrvayāṇam | tvamasmai kutsamatithigvamāyuṃ mahe rājñe yūne arandhanāyaḥ ||

You, Indra, have preserved Suśravas by your succour, Turvayāṇa by your assistance; you have made Kutsa, Atithigva, and Ātu subject to the mighty though youthful Suśravas.

य उदृचीन्द्र देवगोपाः सखायस्ते शिवतमा असाम । त्वां स्तोषाम त्वया सुवीरा द्राघीय आयुः प्रतरं दधानाः ॥

ya udṛcīndra devagopāḥ sakhāyaste śivatamā asāma | tvāṃ stoṣāma tvayā suvīrā drāghīya āyuḥ prataraṃ dadhānāḥ ||

Protected by the gods, we remain, Indra, at the close of the sacrifice, your most fortunate friends; we praise you, as enjoying through you excellent offspring, and a long and prosperous life.
