[rv-1-41] • 9 श्लोकाः

यं रक्षन्ति प्रचेतसो वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा । नू चित्स दभ्यते जनः ॥

yaṃ rakṣanti pracetaso varuṇo mitro aryamā | nū citsa dabhyate janaḥ ||

The man whom the wise Varuṇa, Mitra and Aryaman protect quickly subdues (his foes).

यं बाहुतेव पिप्रति पान्ति मर्त्यं रिषः । अरिष्टः सर्व एधते ॥

yaṃ bāhuteva piprati pānti martyaṃ riṣaḥ | ariṣṭaḥ sarva edhate ||

Hw whom they heap (with riches), as if (collected) by his own arms; the man whom they defend from the malignant; every such man, safe from injury, prospers.

वि दुर्गा वि द्विषः पुरो घ्नन्ति राजान एषाम् । नयन्ति दुरिता तिरः ॥

vi durgā vi dviṣaḥ puro ghnanti rājāna eṣām | nayanti duritā tiraḥ ||

The kings (Varuṇa etc.) first destroy their strongholds, and then the foes of those (who worship him), and put aside their evil deeds.

सुगः पन्था अनृक्षर आदित्यास ऋतं यते । नात्रावखादो अस्ति वः ॥

sugaḥ panthā anṛkṣara ādityāsa ṛtaṃ yate | nātrāvakhādo asti vaḥ ||

Ādityas, to you repairing to the sacrifice, the path is easy and free from thorns; no unworthy oblation is here prepared for you.

यं यज्ञं नयथा नर आदित्या ऋजुना पथा । प्र वः स धीतये नशत् ॥

yaṃ yajñaṃ nayathā nara ādityā ṛjunā pathā | pra vaḥ sa dhītaye naśat ||

Ādityas, guides, may the sacrifice which you come to by a straight path, be to you for your gratification.

स रत्नं मर्त्यो वसु विश्वं तोकमुत त्मना । अच्छा गच्छत्यस्तृतः ॥

sa ratnaṃ martyo vasu viśvaṃ tokamuta tmanā | acchā gacchatyastṛtaḥ ||

That mortal (whom you favour), exempt from harm, obtains all valuable wealth, and offspring like himself.

कथा राधाम सखायः स्तोमं मित्रस्यार्यम्णः । महि प्सरो वरुणस्य ॥

kathā rādhāma sakhāyaḥ stomaṃ mitrasyāryamṇaḥ | mahi psaro varuṇasya ||

How, my friends, shall we recite priase (worthy) of the great glory of Mitra, Varuṇa and Aryaman?

मा वो घ्नन्तं मा शपन्तं प्रति वोचे देवयन्तम् । सुम्नैरिद्व आ विवासे ॥

mā vo ghnantaṃ mā śapantaṃ prati voce devayantam | sumnairidva ā vivāse ||

I do not denounce to you him who assails or reviles the man devoted to the gods. I rather propitiate you with offered wealth.

चतुरश्चिद्ददमानाद्बिभीयादा निधातोः । न दुरुक्ताय स्पृहयेत् ॥

caturaściddadamānādbibhīyādā nidhātoḥ | na duruktāya spṛhayet ||

For he (the worshipper) loves not, but fears to speak evil (of any one), as a gamester fears (his adversary) holding the four (dice), until they are thrown.
