[rv-1-40] • 8 श्लोकाः

उत्तिष्ठ ब्रह्मणस्पते देवयन्तस्त्वेमहे । उप प्र यन्तु मरुतः सुदानव इन्द्र प्राशूर्भवा सचा ॥

uttiṣṭha brahmaṇaspate devayantastvemahe | upa pra yantu marutaḥ sudānava indra prāśūrbhavā sacā ||

Rise us, Brhmaṇaspati; devoted to the gods, we solicit you, bounteous Maruts, be nigh at hand; Indra, be a partaker fo the libation.

त्वामिद्धि सहसस्पुत्र मर्त्य उपब्रूते धने हिते । सुवीर्यं मरुत आ स्वश्व्यं दधीत यो व आचके ॥

tvāmiddhi sahasasputra martya upabrūte dhane hite | suvīryaṃ maruta ā svaśvyaṃ dadhīta yo va ācake ||

Man celebrates you, son of strength, for the wealth abandoned (by the foe). Maruts, may be who praises you obtain wealth, yielding excellent steeds and eminent vigour.

प्रैतु ब्रह्मणस्पतिः प्र देव्येतु सूनृता । अच्छा वीरं नर्यं पङ्क्तिराधसं देवा यज्ञं नयन्तु नः ॥

praitu brahmaṇaspatiḥ pra devyetu sūnṛtā | acchā vīraṃ naryaṃ paṅktirādhasaṃ devā yajñaṃ nayantu naḥ ||

May Brahmaṇaspati approach us; may the goddess, speaker of truth, approach us; may the gods (drive away) every adversary, and present, conduct us to the sacrifice which is beneficial to man, and (abounds) with respectably-presented offerings.

यो वाघते ददाति सूनरं वसु स धत्ते अक्षिति श्रवः । तस्मा इऴां सुवीरामा यजामहे सुप्रतूर्तिमनेहसम् ॥

yo vāghate dadāti sūnaraṃ vasu sa dhatte akṣiti śravaḥ | tasmā iḻāṃ suvīrāmā yajāmahe supratūrtimanehasam ||

He who presents to the ministrant (priest) wealth fit to be accepted, enjoys inexhaustible abundance; for him we worship, Iḷā, attended by brave warriors, inflicting much injury, receiving none.

प्र नूनं ब्रह्मणस्पतिर्मन्त्रं वदत्युक्थ्यम् । यस्मिन्निन्द्रो वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा देवा ओकांसि चक्रिरे ॥

pra nūnaṃ brahmaṇaspatirmantraṃ vadatyukthyam | yasminnindro varuṇo mitro aryamā devā okāṃsi cakrire ||

Verily Brahmaṇaspati proclaims the sacred prayer, in which the divinities, Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra and Aryaman, have made their abode.

तमिद्वोचेमा विदथेषु शम्भुवं मन्त्रं देवा अनेहसम् । इमां च वाचं प्रतिहर्यथा नरो विश्वेद्वामा वो अश्नवत् ॥

tamidvocemā vidatheṣu śambhuvaṃ mantraṃ devā anehasam | imāṃ ca vācaṃ pratiharyathā naro viśvedvāmā vo aśnavat ||

Let us recite, gods, that felicitous and faultless prayer at sacrifices; if you, leaders, desire (to hear) this prayer, then will all that is to be spoken reach unto you.

को देवयन्तमश्नवज्जनं को वृक्तबर्हिषम् । प्रप्र दाश्वान्पस्त्याभिरस्थितान्तर्वावत्क्षयं दधे ॥

ko devayantamaśnavajjanaṃ ko vṛktabarhiṣam | prapra dāśvānpastyābhirasthitāntarvāvatkṣayaṃ dadhe ||

Who, (except Brahmaṇaspati), may approach the man who is devoted to the gods, by whom the clipped sacred grass is spread; the giver of the oblation has proceeded with the priests (to the hall of sacrifice), for he has a dwelling (abounding) internally with precious things.

उप क्षत्रं पृञ्चीत हन्ति राजभिर्भये चित्सुक्षितिं दधे । नास्य वर्ता न तरुता महाधने नार्भे अस्ति वज्रिणः ॥

upa kṣatraṃ pṛñcīta hanti rājabhirbhaye citsukṣitiṃ dadhe | nāsya vartā na tarutā mahādhane nārbhe asti vajriṇaḥ ||

Let Brahmaṇaspati concentrate his strength associated with the regal (divinities), he slays (the foe); in the time of danger he maintains his station; armed with the thunderbolt, there is no encourager nor discourager of him in a great battle or a small.
