[rv-1-27] • 13 श्लोकाः

अश्वं न त्वा वारवन्तं वन्दध्या अग्निं नमोभिः । सम्राजन्तमध्वराणाम् ॥

aśvaṃ na tvā vāravantaṃ vandadhyā agniṃ namobhiḥ | samrājantamadhvarāṇām ||

(I proceed) to address you, the soverign lord of sacrifice, with praises, (for you scatter our fores) like a horse (who brushes off flies with) his tail.

स घा नः सूनुः शवसा पृथुप्रगामा सुशेवः । मीढ्वाँ अस्माकं बभूयात् ॥

sa ghā naḥ sūnuḥ śavasā pṛthupragāmā suśevaḥ | mīḍhvā~ asmākaṃ babhūyāt ||

May he, the son of strength, who moves everywhere fleetly, be propitious to us, and shower down (blessings).

स नो दूराच्चासाच्च नि मर्त्यादघायोः । पाहि सदमिद्विश्वायुः ॥

sa no dūrāccāsācca ni martyādaghāyoḥ | pāhi sadamidviśvāyuḥ ||

Do you, Agni, who go everywhere, ever protect us, whether near or afar, from men seeking to do us injury.

इममू षु त्वमस्माकं सनिं गायत्रं नव्यांसम् । अग्ने देवेषु प्र वोचः ॥

imamū ṣu tvamasmākaṃ saniṃ gāyatraṃ navyāṃsam | agne deveṣu pra vocaḥ ||

Agni, announce to the gods this our offering, and these our newest hymns.

आ नो भज परमेष्वा वाजेषु मध्यमेषु । शिक्षा वस्वो अन्तमस्य ॥

ā no bhaja parameṣvā vājeṣu madhyameṣu | śikṣā vasvo antamasya ||

Procure for us the food that is in heaven and mid-air, and grant us the wealth that is on earth.

विभक्तासि चित्रभानो सिन्धोरूर्मा उपाक आ । सद्यो दाशुषे क्षरसि ॥

vibhaktāsi citrabhāno sindhorūrmā upāka ā | sadyo dāśuṣe kṣarasi ||

You, Citrabhānu, are the distributor of riches, as the waves of a river are parted by interjacent (islets); you ever pour (rewards) upon the giver (of oblations).

यमग्ने पृत्सु मर्त्यमवा वाजेषु यं जुनाः । स यन्ता शश्वतीरिषः ॥

yamagne pṛtsu martyamavā vājeṣu yaṃ junāḥ | sa yantā śaśvatīriṣaḥ ||

The mortal whom you, Agni, protect in battle, whom you incite to combat, will always command (food).

नकिरस्य सहन्त्य पर्येता कयस्य चित् । वाजो अस्ति श्रवाय्यः ॥

nakirasya sahantya paryetā kayasya cit | vājo asti śravāyyaḥ ||

No one will ever be the vanquisher of this your worshipper, subduer of enemies, for notorious in his prowess.

स वाजं विश्वचर्षणिरर्वद्भिरस्तु तरुता । विप्रेभिरस्तु सनिता ॥

sa vājaṃ viśvacarṣaṇirarvadbhirastu tarutā | viprebhirastu sanitā ||

May he who is worshipped by all men, convey us with horses through the battle; may he, (propitiated) by the priests, be the bestower (of bounties).

जराबोध तद्विविड्ढि विशेविशे यज्ञियाय । स्तोमं रुद्राय दृशीकम् ॥

jarābodha tadviviḍḍhi viśeviśe yajñiyāya | stomaṃ rudrāya dṛśīkam ||

Jarābodha, enter into the oblation for the completion of the sacrifice that benefits all mankind; the worshipper offers agreeable laudation to the terrible (Agni).

स नो महाँ अनिमानो धूमकेतुः पुरुश्चन्द्रः । धिये वाजाय हिन्वतु ॥

sa no mahā~ animāno dhūmaketuḥ puruścandraḥ | dhiye vājāya hinvatu ||

May the vast, illimitable, smoke- bannered, resplendent Agni be plural ased with our rite, and grant us food.

स रेवाँ इव विश्पतिर्दैव्यः केतुः शृणोतु नः । उक्थैरग्निर्बृहद्भानुः ॥

sa revā~ iva viśpatirdaivyaḥ ketuḥ śṛṇotu naḥ | ukthairagnirbṛhadbhānuḥ ||

May Agni, the lord of men, the invoker and messenger of the gods, the brilliant-rayed, hear us with our hymns, as a prince (listens to the bards).

नमो महद्भ्यो नमो अर्भकेभ्यो नमो युवभ्यो नम आशिनेभ्यः । यजाम देवान्यदि शक्नवाम मा ज्यायसः शंसमा वृक्षि देवाः ॥

namo mahadbhyo namo arbhakebhyo namo yuvabhyo nama āśinebhyaḥ | yajāma devānyadi śaknavāma mā jyāyasaḥ śaṃsamā vṛkṣi devāḥ ||

Veneration to the great gods, veneration to the lesser, veneration to the young, veneration to the old we worship (all) the gods as well as we are able; may I not omit the praise of the elder divinities.
