अग्ने नय सुपथा राये अस्मान्विश्वानि देव वयुनानि विद्वान् । युयोध्यस्मज्जुहुराणमेनो भूयिष्ठां ते नमौक्तिं विधेम ॥

agne naya supathā rāye asmānviśvāni deva vayunāni vidvān | yuyodhyasmajjuhurāṇameno bhūyiṣṭhāṃ te namauktiṃ vidhema ||

Agni, knowing all kinds of knowledge, lead us by good ways to wealth; remove from from us the sun that would force us astray, that we may offer to you most ample adoratioṇ

अग्ने त्वं पारया नव्यो अस्मान्त्स्वस्तिभिरति दुर्गाणि विश्वा । पूश्च पृथ्वी बहुला न उर्वी भवा तोकाय तनयाय शं योः ॥

agne tvaṃ pārayā navyo asmāntsvastibhirati durgāṇi viśvā | pūśca pṛthvī bahulā na urvī bhavā tokāya tanayāya śaṃ yoḥ ||

Adorable Agni, convey us by the sacred sets (of worship), beyond all evil ways; may our city be spacious; our land be extensive; be the bestower of happiness upon our offspring, upon our sons.

अग्ने त्वमस्मद्युयोध्यमीवा अनग्नित्रा अभ्यमन्त कृष्टीः । पुनरस्मभ्यं सुविताय देव क्षां विश्वेभिरमृतेभिर्यजत्र ॥

agne tvamasmadyuyodhyamīvā anagnitrā abhyamanta kṛṣṭīḥ | punarasmabhyaṃ suvitāya deva kṣāṃ viśvebhiramṛtebhiryajatra ||

Agni, do you remove from us disease, and those men who, unprotected by Agni, are adverse to us; and, adorable divinity (visit) the earth, with all the immortals, for our welfare.

पाहि नो अग्ने पायुभिरजस्रैरुत प्रिये सदन आ शुशुक्वान् । मा ते भयं जरितारं यविष्ठ नूनं विदन्मापरं सहस्वः ॥

pāhi no agne pāyubhirajasrairuta priye sadana ā śuśukvān | mā te bhayaṃ jaritāraṃ yaviṣṭha nūnaṃ vidanmāparaṃ sahasvaḥ ||

Cherish us, Agni, with incessant bounties; shine always in your favourite abode; let no danger, youngest (of the gods), assails your worshipper today; nor, mighty one, let t assail him any other season.

मा नो अग्नेऽव सृजो अघायाविष्यवे रिपवे दुच्छुनायै । मा दत्वते दशते मादते नो मा रीषते सहसावन्परा दाः ॥

mā no agne'va sṛjo aghāyāviṣyave ripave ducchunāyai | mā datvate daśate mādate no mā rīṣate sahasāvanparā dāḥ ||

Abandon us not, Agni, to a wicked, voracious, malevolent foe; (abandon us) not to one who has fangs, and who bites; nor to one without teeth; nor to the malignant; nor give us up, powerful Agni, to disgrace.

वि घ त्वावाँ ऋतजात यंसद्गृणानो अग्ने तन्वे वरूथम् । विश्वाद्रिरिक्षोरुत वा निनित्सोरभिह्रुतामसि हि देव विष्पट् ॥

vi gha tvāvā~ ṛtajāta yaṃsadgṛṇāno agne tanve varūtham | viśvādririkṣoruta vā ninitsorabhihrutāmasi hi deva viṣpaṭ ||

Agni, born for sacrifice, (a man) praising you, who are excellent, for (the sake of cherishing) his body, becomes such as you are; exempts himself from all who are inclined to harm or revile him; for you, Agni, are the especial adversary of those who do wrong.

त्वं ताँ अग्न उभयान्वि विद्वान्वेषि प्रपित्वे मनुषो यजत्र । अभिपित्वे मनवे शास्यो भूर्मर्मृजेन्य उशिग्भिर्नाक्रः ॥

tvaṃ tā~ agna ubhayānvi vidvānveṣi prapitve manuṣo yajatra | abhipitve manave śāsyo bhūrmarmṛjenya uśigbhirnākraḥ ||

Adorable Agni, you are sagacious, and in a short time discriminate between both those men (who do and do not worshhip you); approach the worshipper at the proper time, and be compliant (with his wishes); like an instrumental tutor of the rite, (who is directed) by the desires (of the priests).

अवोचाम निवचनान्यस्मिन्मानस्य सूनुः सहसाने अग्नौ । वयं सहस्रमृषिभिः सनेम विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम् ॥

avocāma nivacanānyasminmānasya sūnuḥ sahasāne agnau | vayaṃ sahasramṛṣibhiḥ sanema vidyāmeṣaṃ vṛjanaṃ jīradānum ||

We address our pious prayers to you, Agni, the son of prayer, the subduer of foes; may we procure, by these sacred supplications, infinite wealth, that we may thence obtain food, strength and long life.
