[rv-1-18] • 9 श्लोकाः

सोमानं स्वरणं कृणुहि ब्रह्मणस्पते । कक्षीवन्तं य औशिजः ॥

somānaṃ svaraṇaṃ kṛṇuhi brahmaṇaspate | kakṣīvantaṃ ya auśijaḥ ||

Brahmaṇaspati (=Agni, connected with prayer) make the offerer of the libation illustrious among the gods, like Kakṣīvat, the son of Uśij (and Dīrghatamas).

यो रेवान्यो अमीवहा वसुवित्पुष्टिवर्धनः । स नः सिषक्तु यस्तुरः ॥

yo revānyo amīvahā vasuvitpuṣṭivardhanaḥ | sa naḥ siṣaktu yasturaḥ ||

May he who is opulent, the healer of disease, the acquirer of riches, the augmenter of nourishment, the prompt (bestower of rewards) be favourable to us.

मा नः शंसो अररुषो धूर्तिः प्रणङ्मर्त्यस्य । रक्षा णो ब्रह्मणस्पते ॥

mā naḥ śaṃso araruṣo dhūrtiḥ praṇaṅmartyasya | rakṣā ṇo brahmaṇaspate ||

Protect us, Brahmaṇaspati, so that no calumnious censure of a melevolent man may reach us.

स घा वीरो न रिष्यति यमिन्द्रो ब्रह्मणस्पतिः । सोमो हिनोति मर्त्यम् ॥

sa ghā vīro na riṣyati yamindro brahmaṇaspatiḥ | somo hinoti martyam ||

The liberal man, whom Indra, Brahmaṇaspati, and Soma protect, never perishes.

त्वं तं ब्रह्मणस्पते सोम इन्द्रश्च मर्त्यम् । दक्षिणा पात्वंहसः ॥

tvaṃ taṃ brahmaṇaspate soma indraśca martyam | dakṣiṇā pātvaṃhasaḥ ||

Do you, Brahmaṇaspati, and do you, Soma, Indra and Dakṣiṇā (= present person nified as a feminine le divinity), protect that man from sin.

सदसस्पतिमद्भुतं प्रियमिन्द्रस्य काम्यम् । सनिं मेधामयासिषम् ॥

sadasaspatimadbhutaṃ priyamindrasya kāmyam | saniṃ medhāmayāsiṣam ||

I solicit understanding from Sadasaspati (= Agni, protector of the assembly), the wonderful, the friend of Indra, the desirable, the bountiful.

यस्मादृते न सिध्यति यज्ञो विपश्चितश्चन । स धीनां योगमिन्वति ॥

yasmādṛte na sidhyati yajño vipaścitaścana | sa dhīnāṃ yogaminvati ||

Without whose aid the sacrifice even of the wise is not perfected; he pervades the association of our thoughts (or, the object of our pious acts; dhī = buddhi, understanding or karma).

आदृध्नोति हविष्कृतिं प्राञ्चं कृणोत्यध्वरम् । होत्रा देवेषु गच्छति ॥

ādṛdhnoti haviṣkṛtiṃ prāñcaṃ kṛṇotyadhvaram | hotrā deveṣu gacchati ||

He rewrds the presenter of the oblation; he brings the sacrifice to its conclusion; (through him) our invocation reaches the gods.

नराशंसं सुधृष्टममपश्यं सप्रथस्तमम् । दिवो न सद्ममखसम् ॥

narāśaṃsaṃ sudhṛṣṭamamapaśyaṃ saprathastamam | divo na sadmamakhasam ||

I have beheld Nārāśaṃsa (i.e. Agni or the person nified yajña or sacrifice at which men praise the gods), the most resolute, the most renowned, and radiant as the heavens.
