[rv-1-17] • 9 श्लोकाः

इन्द्रावरुणयोरहं सम्राजोरव आ वृणे । ता नो मृऴात ईदृशे ॥

indrāvaruṇayorahaṃ samrājorava ā vṛṇe | tā no mṛḻāta īdṛśe ||

I seek the protection of the sovereign rulers (= possessed of extensive dominion or shining very brilliantly), Indra and Varuṇa; may they both favour us accordingly.

गन्तारा हि स्थोऽवसे हवं विप्रस्य मावतः । धर्तारा चर्षणीनाम् ॥

gantārā hi stho'vase havaṃ viprasya māvataḥ | dhartārā carṣaṇīnām ||

For you are ever ready, guardians of mankind, to grant protection on the appeal of a minister such as I am.

अनुकामं तर्पयेथामिन्द्रावरुण राय आ । ता वां नेदिष्ठमीमहे ॥

anukāmaṃ tarpayethāmindrāvaruṇa rāya ā | tā vāṃ nediṣṭhamīmahe ||

Satisfy us with wealth, Indra and Varuṇa, according to our desires; we desire you ever near us.

युवाकु हि शचीनां युवाकु सुमतीनाम् । भूयाम वाजदाव्नाम् ॥

yuvāku hi śacīnāṃ yuvāku sumatīnām | bhūyāma vājadāvnām ||

The mingled (libations; yuvāku = mixture of curds and ghee; śacīnām, mixture of butter milk, water and meal) of our pious rites, the mingled yuvāku sumatīnām = (laudations) of our right-minded (= sumatīnām, priests, are prepared); may we be (included) among the givers of food.

इन्द्रः सहस्रदाव्नां वरुणः शंस्यानाम् । क्रतुर्भवत्युक्थ्यः ॥

indraḥ sahasradāvnāṃ varuṇaḥ śaṃsyānām | kraturbhavatyukthyaḥ ||

Indra is a giver among the givers of thousands;Varuṇa is to be praised among those who are deserving of laudation.

तयोरिदवसा वयं सनेम नि च धीमहि । स्यादुत प्ररेचनम् ॥

tayoridavasā vayaṃ sanema ni ca dhīmahi | syāduta prarecanam ||

Through their protection, we enjoy (riches) and heap them up, and still there is abundance.

इन्द्रावरुण वामहं हुवे चित्राय राधसे । अस्मान्त्सु जिग्युषस्कृतम् ॥

indrāvaruṇa vāmahaṃ huve citrāya rādhase | asmāntsu jigyuṣaskṛtam ||

I invoke you both, Indra and Varuṇa, quickly bestow happiness upon us, for our minds are devoted to you both.

इन्द्रावरुण नू नु वां सिषासन्तीषु धीष्वा । अस्मभ्यं शर्म यच्छतम् ॥

indrāvaruṇa nū nu vāṃ siṣāsantīṣu dhīṣvā | asmabhyaṃ śarma yacchatam ||

Indra and Varuṇa, quickly bestow happiness upon us, for our minds are devoted to you both.

प्र वामश्नोतु सुष्टुतिरिन्द्रावरुण यां हुवे । यामृधाथे सधस्तुतिम् ॥

pra vāmaśnotu suṣṭutirindrāvaruṇa yāṃ huve | yāmṛdhāthe sadhastutim ||

May the earnest priase which I offer to Indra and Varuṇa reach you both--that conjoint praise which you (accepting), dignify.
