[rv-1-19] • 9 श्लोकाः

प्रति त्यं चारुमध्वरं गोपीथाय प्र हूयसे । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

prati tyaṃ cārumadhvaraṃ gopīthāya pra hūyase | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

Earnestly are you invoked to this perfect rite, to drink the Soma juice; come, Agni, with the Maruts.

नहि देवो न मर्त्यो महस्तव क्रतुं परः । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

nahi devo na martyo mahastava kratuṃ paraḥ | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

Nor god nor man has power over a rite (dedicated) to you, who are mighty; come, Agni, with the Maruts.

ये महो रजसो विदुर्विश्वे देवासो अद्रुहः । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

ye maho rajaso vidurviśve devāso adruhaḥ | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

Who all are divine (devāsaḥ = dyotamānāḥ, shining) and devoid of malignity and who know (how to cause the descent) of great waters; come, Agni, with the (sapta-gaṇā or all seven troops of) Maruts.

य उग्रा अर्कमानृचुरनाधृष्टास ओजसा । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

ya ugrā arkamānṛcuranādhṛṣṭāsa ojasā | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

Who are fierce, and send down rain (arka, from arc to worship; āpo vā arkaḥ (Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa 10.6.5.2); hence, arka connotes water or rain), and are unsurpassed in strength; come, Agni with the Maruts.

ये शुभ्रा घोरवर्पसः सुक्षत्रासो रिशादसः । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

ye śubhrā ghoravarpasaḥ sukṣatrāso riśādasaḥ | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

Who are brilliant, of terrific forms, who are possessors of great wealth, and are devourers of the malevolent; come, Agni with the Maruts.

ये नाकस्याधि रोचने दिवि देवास आसते । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

ye nākasyādhi rocane divi devāsa āsate | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

Who are divinities abiding in the radiant heaven above the sun; come, Agni with the Maruts.

य ईङ्खयन्ति पर्वतान्तिरः समुद्रमर्णवम् । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

ya īṅkhayanti parvatāntiraḥ samudramarṇavam | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

Who scatter the clouds, and agitate the sea (with waves): come, Agni with the Maruts.

आ ये तन्वन्ति रश्मिभिस्तिरः समुद्रमोजसा । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

ā ye tanvanti raśmibhistiraḥ samudramojasā | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

Who spread (through the firmament) along with the rays (of the sun) and with their strength agitate the ocean: come, Agni, with the Maruts.

अभि त्वा पूर्वपीतये सृजामि सोम्यं मधु । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

abhi tvā pūrvapītaye sṛjāmi somyaṃ madhu | marudbhiragna ā gahi ||

I pour out the sweet Soma juice for your drinking, (as) of old; come, Agni with the Maruts.
