[rv-1-16] • 9 श्लोकाः

आ त्वा वहन्तु हरयो वृषणं सोमपीतये । इन्द्र त्वा सूरचक्षसः ॥

ā tvā vahantu harayo vṛṣaṇaṃ somapītaye | indra tvā sūracakṣasaḥ ||

Indra, let your coursers hither bring you, bestower of desires, to drink the Soma juice; may (the priests), radiant as the Sun, (make you manifest).

इमा धाना घृतस्नुवो हरी इहोप वक्षतः । इन्द्रं सुखतमे रथे ॥

imā dhānā ghṛtasnuvo harī ihopa vakṣataḥ | indraṃ sukhatame rathe ||

Let his coursers convey Indra in an easy moving chariot hither, where these grains (of parched barley), steeped in clarified butter, are strewn (upon the altar).

इन्द्रं प्रातर्हवामह इन्द्रं प्रयत्यध्वरे । इन्द्रं सोमस्य पीतये ॥

indraṃ prātarhavāmaha indraṃ prayatyadhvare | indraṃ somasya pītaye ||

We invoke Indra at the morning rite, we invoke him at the succeeding sacrifice, we invoke Indra to drink the Soma juice.

उप नः सुतमा गहि हरिभिरिन्द्र केशिभिः । सुते हि त्वा हवामहे ॥

upa naḥ sutamā gahi haribhirindra keśibhiḥ | sute hi tvā havāmahe ||

Come, Indra, to our libation with our long-maned steeds; the libation being poured out, we invoke you.

सेमं नः स्तोममा गह्युपेदं सवनं सुतम् । गौरो न तृषितः पिब ॥

semaṃ naḥ stomamā gahyupedaṃ savanaṃ sutam | gauro na tṛṣitaḥ piba ||

Do you accept this our praise, and come to this our sacrifice, for which the libation is prepared; drink like a thirsty stag (gaura).

इमे सोमास इन्दवः सुतासो अधि बर्हिषि । ताँ इन्द्र सहसे पिब ॥

ime somāsa indavaḥ sutāso adhi barhiṣi | tā~ indra sahase piba ||

These dripping Soma juices are effused upon the sacred grass; drink them, Indra, (to recruit your) vigour.

अयं ते स्तोमो अग्रियो हृदिस्पृगस्तु शंतमः । अथा सोमं सुतं पिब ॥

ayaṃ te stomo agriyo hṛdispṛgastu śaṃtamaḥ | athā somaṃ sutaṃ piba ||

May this our excellent hymn, touching your heart, be grateful to you, and thence drink the effused libation.

विश्वमित्सवनं सुतमिन्द्रो मदाय गच्छति । वृत्रहा सोमपीतये ॥

viśvamitsavanaṃ sutamindro madāya gacchati | vṛtrahā somapītaye ||

Indra, the destroyer of enemies, repairs assuredly to every ceremony where the libation is poured out, to drink the Soma juice for (his) exhilaration.

सेमं नः काममा पृण गोभिरश्वैः शतक्रतो । स्तवाम त्वा स्वाध्यः ॥

semaṃ naḥ kāmamā pṛṇa gobhiraśvaiḥ śatakrato | stavāma tvā svādhyaḥ ||

Do you, Śatakratu, accomplish our desire with (the gift of) cattle and horse; profoundly meditating, we praise you.
