ऋग्वेद 1.156 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

भवा मित्रो न शेव्यो घृतासुतिर्विभूतद्युम्न एवया उ सप्रथाः । अधा ते विष्णो विदुषा चिदर्ध्यः स्तोमो यज्ञश्च राध्यो हविष्मता ॥

bhavā mitro na śevyo ghṛtāsutirvibhūtadyumna evayā u saprathāḥ | adhā te viṣṇo viduṣā cidardhyaḥ stomo yajñaśca rādhyo haviṣmatā ||

Be (to us), Viṣṇu, like a friend, the giver of happiness, the acepter of oblations, abounding with food, the granter of protection, and every way accessible; on which account your praise is to be repeatedly recited by the wise, and your worship to be celebrated by the offerer of oblations.

यः पूर्व्याय वेधसे नवीयसे सुमज्जानये विष्णवे ददाशति । यो जातमस्य महतो महि ब्रवत्सेदु श्रवोभिर्युज्यं चिदभ्यसत् ॥

yaḥ pūrvyāya vedhase navīyase sumajjānaye viṣṇave dadāśati | yo jātamasya mahato mahi bravatsedu śravobhiryujyaṃ cidabhyasat ||

He who presents (offerings) to Viṣṇu, the ancient, the creator, the recent, the self-born; he who celebrates the great birth of that mighty one; he verily possessed of abundance, attains (the station) that is to be sought (by all).

तमु स्तोतारः पूर्व्यं यथा विद ऋतस्य गर्भं जनुषा पिपर्तन । आस्य जानन्तो नाम चिद्विवक्तन महस्ते विष्णो सुमतिं भजामहे ॥

tamu stotāraḥ pūrvyaṃ yathā vida ṛtasya garbhaṃ januṣā pipartana | āsya jānanto nāma cidvivaktana mahaste viṣṇo sumatiṃ bhajāmahe ||

Hymners, propitiate of your own accord that ancient Viṣṇu, since you know him as the germ of sacrifice, cognizant of his greatness, celebrate his name; may we, Viṣṇu, enjoy your favour.

तमस्य राजा वरुणस्तमश्विना क्रतुं सचन्त मारुतस्य वेधसः । दाधार दक्षमुत्तममहर्विदं व्रजं च विष्णुः सखिवाँ अपोर्णुते ॥

tamasya rājā varuṇastamaśvinā kratuṃ sacanta mārutasya vedhasaḥ | dādhāra dakṣamuttamamaharvidaṃ vrajaṃ ca viṣṇuḥ sakhivā~ aporṇute ||

The royal Varuṇa associates (himself) with the sacrifice of the pious worshipper, assisted by the company of the priests; the Aśvins (unite with it); Viṣṇu, with his friend (Indra), possesses supreme heaven-conferring power, and sits upon the clouds.

आ यो विवाय सचथाय दैव्य इन्द्राय विष्णुः सुकृते सुकृत्तरः । वेधा अजिन्वत्त्रिषधस्थ आर्यमृतस्य भागे यजमानमाभजत् ॥

ā yo vivāya sacathāya daivya indrāya viṣṇuḥ sukṛte sukṛttaraḥ | vedhā ajinvattriṣadhastha āryamṛtasya bhāge yajamānamābhajat ||

The divine Viṣṇu, the best of the doers of good deeds, who came to the pious instrumental tutor of the rite, to assist (at its celebration), knowing (the desire of the worshipper), and present at the three connected periods (of worship), shows favour to te Arya, and admits the author if the ceremony to a share of the sacrifice.
