[rv-1-103] • 8 श्लोकाः

तत्त इन्द्रियं परमं पराचैरधारयन्त कवयः पुरेदम् । क्षमेदमन्यद्दिव्यन्यदस्य समी पृच्यते समनेव केतुः ॥

tatta indriyaṃ paramaṃ parācairadhārayanta kavayaḥ puredam | kṣamedamanyaddivyanyadasya samī pṛcyate samaneva ketuḥ ||

The sages have formerly been possessed of this your supreme power, Indra, as if it were present with them, one light of whom shines upon the earth, the other in heaven, and both are in combination with each other, as banner (mingles with banner) in battle.

स धारयत्पृथिवीं पप्रथच्च वज्रेण हत्वा निरपः ससर्ज । अहन्नहिमभिनद्रौहिणं व्यहन्व्यंसं मघवा शचीभिः ॥

sa dhārayatpṛthivīṃ paprathacca vajreṇa hatvā nirapaḥ sasarja | ahannahimabhinadrauhiṇaṃ vyahanvyaṃsaṃ maghavā śacībhiḥ ||

He upholds, and has spread out, the earth; having struck (the clouds), he has extricated the waters; he has slain Ahi, he has pierced Rauhiṇa, he has destroyed, by his prowess, the mutilated (Vṛtra).

स जातूभर्मा श्रद्दधान ओजः पुरो विभिन्दन्नचरद्वि दासीः । विद्वान्वज्रिन्दस्यवे हेतिमस्यार्यं सहो वर्धया द्युम्नमिन्द्र ॥

sa jātūbharmā śraddadhāna ojaḥ puro vibhindannacaradvi dāsīḥ | vidvānvajrindasyave hetimasyāryaṃ saho vardhayā dyumnamindra ||

Armed with the thunderbolt, and confident in his strength, he has gone on destroying the cities of the Dasyus. Thunderer, acknowledging (the praises of your worshipper) cast, for his sake, your shaft agains the Dasyu, and augment the strength and glory of the Ārya.

तदूचुषे मानुषेमा युगानि कीर्तेन्यं मघवा नाम बिभ्रत् । उपप्रयन्दस्युहत्याय वज्री यद्ध सूनुः श्रवसे नाम दधे ॥

tadūcuṣe mānuṣemā yugāni kīrtenyaṃ maghavā nāma bibhrat | upaprayandasyuhatyāya vajrī yaddha sūnuḥ śravase nāma dadhe ||

Maghavan, possessing a name that is to be glorified, offers to him who celebrates it, these (revolving) ages of man; the thunderer, the scatterer (of his foes), sallying forth to destroy the Dasyus, has obtained a name (renowned for victorious) prowess.

तदस्येदं पश्यता भूरि पुष्टं श्रदिन्द्रस्य धत्तन वीर्याय । स गा अविन्दत्सो अविन्ददश्वान्त्स ओषधीः सो अपः स वनानि ॥

tadasyedaṃ paśyatā bhūri puṣṭaṃ śradindrasya dhattana vīryāya | sa gā avindatso avindadaśvāntsa oṣadhīḥ so apaḥ sa vanāni ||

Behold this, the vast and extensive (might of Indra); have confidence in his prowess; he has recovered the cattle, he has recovered the horses, the plural nts, the waters, the woods.

भूरिकर्मणे वृषभाय वृष्णे सत्यशुष्माय सुनवाम सोमम् । य आदृत्या परिपन्थीव शूरोऽयज्वनो विभजन्नेति वेदः ॥

bhūrikarmaṇe vṛṣabhāya vṛṣṇe satyaśuṣmāya sunavāma somam | ya ādṛtyā paripanthīva śūro'yajvano vibhajanneti vedaḥ ||

We offer the Soma libation to him who is the performer of many exploits, the best (of the gods), the showerer (of benefits), the possessor of true strength, the hero who, holding respect for wealth, takes it from him who performs no sacrifice, like a foot-pad (from a traveller), and proceeds (to give it) to the sacrificer.

तदिन्द्र प्रेव वीर्यं चकर्थ यत्ससन्तं वज्रेणाबोधयोऽहिम् । अनु त्वा पत्नीर्हृषितं वयश्च विश्वे देवासो अमदन्ननु त्वा ॥

tadindra preva vīryaṃ cakartha yatsasantaṃ vajreṇābodhayo'him | anu tvā patnīrhṛṣitaṃ vayaśca viśve devāso amadannanu tvā ||

You did perform, Indra, a glorious deed, when you did awaken the sleeping Ahi with your thunderbolt; then the wives (of the gods), the Maruts, and all the gods, imitated your exultation.

शुष्णं पिप्रुं कुयवं वृत्रमिन्द्र यदावधीर्वि पुरः शम्बरस्य । तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः ॥

śuṣṇaṃ pipruṃ kuyavaṃ vṛtramindra yadāvadhīrvi puraḥ śambarasya | tanno mitro varuṇo māmahantāmaditiḥ sindhuḥ pṛthivī uta dyauḥ ||

Inasmuch, Indra, as you have slain Śuṣṇa, Pipru, Kuyava and Vṛtra, and destroyed the cities of Śambara, therefore may Mitra, Varuṇa, Aditi--ocean, earth, and heaven, grant us that (which we desire).
