A king of the lunar dynasty.
Descended from विष्णु thus: ब्रह्मा -- अत्रि - चन्द्र - बुध - पुरूरवस् - आयुस् - नहुष - ययाति - पूरु - जनमेजय - प्राचिन्वान् - मनस्यु - वीतभय - शुण्डु - बहुविध - संयाति - रहोवादी - भद्राश्व - मतिनार - सन्तुरोध - दुष्यन्त - भरत - बृहत्क्षत्र - हस्ति - अजमीढ - ऋक्ष - संवरण .

Other information
King पाञ्चाल once attacked and subjugated him. [mh-1-93-37 ] .
He gave up the throne in fear of the enemy and went and lived on the banks of the river सिन्धु . [mh-1-9-39 ] .
To regain his kingdom he appointed वसिष्ठ as his priest. [mh-1-94-42 ] .
He got back the kingdom by वसिष्ठ 's help and then he performed a यज्ञ with the latter as high priest. [mh-1-94-45 ] .
A son called कुरु was born to him by तपती daughter of सूर्य . [mh-1-94-48 ] .
He was a devotee of सूर्य . [mh-1-170-12 ] .
No other king more handsome than he had yet been born. [mh-1-170-15 ] .
Once there was no rainfall for twelve years in his kingdom. [mh-1-172-38 ] .
He is one of the kings to be remembered at dawn and at dusk. [mh-13-165-54 ] .
Words like आजमीढ , आर्क्ष , पौरव , पौरवनन्दन and ऋक्षपुत्र have been used in महाभारत as synonyms of संवरण .
