[rv-9-88] • 8 श्लोकाः

अयं सोम इन्द्र तुभ्यं सुन्वे तुभ्यं पवते त्वमस्य पाहि । त्वं ह यं चकृषे त्वं ववृष इन्दुं मदाय युज्याय सोमम् ॥

ayaṃ soma indra tubhyaṃ sunve tubhyaṃ pavate tvamasya pāhi | tvaṃ ha yaṃ cakṛṣe tvaṃ vavṛṣa induṃ madāya yujyāya somam ||

This Soma is expressed for you, Indra; for you is filtered; do you drink of it; it is the Indu Soma which you have made, which you have chosen for your exhilaration, your companion.

स ईं रथो न भुरिषाऴयोजि महः पुरूणि सातये वसूनि । आदीं विश्वा नहुष्याणि जाता स्वर्षाता वन ऊर्ध्वा नवन्त ॥

sa īṃ ratho na bhuriṣāḻayoji mahaḥ purūṇi sātaye vasūni | ādīṃ viśvā nahuṣyāṇi jātā svarṣātā vana ūrdhvā navanta ||

It has been harnessed like a great wagon that bears heavy burdens in order to bring us many treasures; after this may all the races of men expecting our (attack) go to the desirable battle.

वायुर्न यो नियुत्वाँ इष्टयामा नासत्येव हव आ शम्भविष्ठः । विश्ववारो द्रविणोदा इव त्मन्पूषेव धीजवनोऽसि सोम ॥

vāyurna yo niyutvā~ iṣṭayāmā nāsatyeva hava ā śambhaviṣṭhaḥ | viśvavāro draviṇodā iva tmanpūṣeva dhījavano'si soma ||

You, Soma, who like Vāyu with his Niyut steeds go where you list, who like the Nāsatyās on hearing the invocation do grant abundant felicity, you are of yourself desired by all like the giver of wealth, you are like Pūṣan, swift as thought.

इन्द्रो न यो महा कर्माणि चक्रिर्हन्ता वृत्राणामसि सोम पूर्भित् । पैद्वो न हि त्वमहिनाम्नां हन्ता विश्वस्यासि सोम दस्योः ॥

indro na yo mahā karmāṇi cakrirhantā vṛtrāṇāmasi soma pūrbhit | paidvo na hi tvamahināmnāṃ hantā viśvasyāsi soma dasyoḥ ||

You, Soma, who like Indra perform mighty acts, are the slayer of the Vṛtras, the destroyer of those who are called serpents; you are the slayer of every Dasyu.

अग्निर्न यो वन आ सृज्यमानो वृथा पाजांसि कृणुते नदीषु । जनो न युध्वा महत उपब्दिरियर्ति सोमः पवमान ऊर्मिम् ॥

agnirna yo vana ā sṛjyamāno vṛthā pājāṃsi kṛṇute nadīṣu | jano na yudhvā mahata upabdiriyarti somaḥ pavamāna ūrmim ||

Soma who, like Agni let loose in a forest, easily manifests his might in the waters like a man who fights shouting against his mighty (foe)-- so Soma when purified urges on his wave.

एते सोमा अति वाराण्यव्या दिव्या न कोशासो अभ्रवर्षाः । वृथा समुद्रं सिन्धवो न नीचीः सुतासो अभि कलशाँ असृग्रन् ॥

ete somā ati vārāṇyavyā divyā na kośāso abhravarṣāḥ | vṛthā samudraṃ sindhavo na nīcīḥ sutāso abhi kalaśā~ asṛgran ||

These Soma-juices pass through the woollen fleece, like the rains of heaven showered by the clouds; the effused juices flow promptly to the pitchers as rivers running downwards (flow) into the ocean.

शुष्मी शर्धो न मारुतं पवस्वानभिशस्ता दिव्या यथा विट् । आपो न मक्षू सुमतिर्भवा नः सहस्राप्साः पृतनाषाण्न यज्ञः ॥

śuṣmī śardho na mārutaṃ pavasvānabhiśastā divyā yathā viṭ | āpo na makṣū sumatirbhavā naḥ sahasrāpsāḥ pṛtanāṣāṇna yajñaḥ ||

Flow strong as the army of the Maruts, like the divine blameless folk; like waters become quickly favourable to us; (you are) of a thousand shapes, adorable like (Indra) the victor in battle.

राज्ञो नु ते वरुणस्य व्रतानि बृहद्गभीरं तव सोम धाम । शुचिष्ट्वमसि प्रियो न मित्रो दक्षाय्यो अर्यमेवासि सोम ॥

rājño nu te varuṇasya vratāni bṛhadgabhīraṃ tava soma dhāma | śuciṣṭvamasi priyo na mitro dakṣāyyo aryamevāsi soma ||

Your acts are (like) those of the royal Varuṇa, vast and profound, Soma, is your abode; you are pure as the beloved Mitra, munificent are you, Soma, as Aryaman.
