ऋग्वेद 9.23 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

सोमा असृग्रमाशवो मधोर्मदस्य धारया । अभि विश्वानि काव्या ॥

somā asṛgramāśavo madhormadasya dhārayā | abhi viśvāni kāvyā ||

The swift-flowing Soma-juices have issued in a stream of the sweet exhilarating (beverage), at (the recital of) all the praise (of the sages).

अनु प्रत्नास आयवः पदं नवीयो अक्रमुः । रुचे जनन्त सूर्यम् ॥

anu pratnāsa āyavaḥ padaṃ navīyo akramuḥ | ruce jananta sūryam ||

Ancient swift-going (horses), they (the juices) have traversed anew field-- they have a genitive rated a sun to give light.

आ पवमान नो भरार्यो अदाशुषो गयम् । कृधि प्रजावतीरिषः ॥

ā pavamāna no bharāryo adāśuṣo gayam | kṛdhi prajāvatīriṣaḥ ||

Bring to us, purifier, the house of our enemy who presents no libations-- bestow upon us progeny-abounding food.

अभि सोमास आयवः पवन्ते मद्यं मदम् । अभि कोशं मधुश्चुतम् ॥

abhi somāsa āyavaḥ pavante madyaṃ madam | abhi kośaṃ madhuścutam ||

The swift-flowing Soma-juices diffuse exhilarating wine-- they flow to the honey-shedding receptacle.

सोमो अर्षति धर्णसिर्दधान इन्द्रियं रसम् । सुवीरो अभिशस्तिपाः ॥

somo arṣati dharṇasirdadhāna indriyaṃ rasam | suvīro abhiśastipāḥ ||

The Soma flows, the sustainer (of the world), bearing a sense-invigorating essence-- heroic-- a protector against calumny.

इन्द्राय सोम पवसे देवेभ्यः सधमाद्यः । इन्दो वाजं सिषाससि ॥

indrāya soma pavase devebhyaḥ sadhamādyaḥ | indo vājaṃ siṣāsasi ||

Soma, who are worthy of the sacrifice, you flow to Indra and to the gods; you, Indu, vouchsafe to give us food.

अस्य पीत्वा मदानामिन्द्रो वृत्राण्यप्रति । जघान जघनच्च नु ॥

asya pītvā madānāmindro vṛtrāṇyaprati | jaghāna jaghanacca nu ||

Having drunk of this chief of exhilarating draughts, Indra irresistible has slain his foes, and may he ever slay them.
