[rv-9-2] • 10 श्लोकाः

पवस्व देववीरति पवित्रं सोम रंह्या । इन्द्रमिन्दो वृषा विश ॥

pavasva devavīrati pavitraṃ soma raṃhyā | indramindo vṛṣā viśa ||

Flow on, Soma, seeking the gods, hastening on in your purifying course; enter Indra, O Indu, the showerer.

आ वच्यस्व महि प्सरो वृषेन्दो द्युम्नवत्तमः । आ योनिं धर्णसिः सदः ॥

ā vacyasva mahi psaro vṛṣendo dyumnavattamaḥ | ā yoniṃ dharṇasiḥ sadaḥ ||

O Indu, do you, the mighty showerer (of blessings) most glorious upholder, send us food, and sit down in yours own plural ce.

अधुक्षत प्रियं मधु धारा सुतस्य वेधसः । अपो वसिष्ट सुक्रतुः ॥

adhukṣata priyaṃ madhu dhārā sutasya vedhasaḥ | apo vasiṣṭa sukratuḥ ||

The stream of effused creative Soma milks out the joy-giving ambrosia; the accomplisher of holy rites veils itself in the waters.

महान्तं त्वा महीरन्वापो अर्षन्ति सिन्धवः । यद्गोभिर्वासयिष्यसे ॥

mahāntaṃ tvā mahīranvāpo arṣanti sindhavaḥ | yadgobhirvāsayiṣyase ||

(Som), when you will veil yourself in the milk, the mighty streaming waters flow to you, the mighty one.

समुद्रो अप्सु मामृजे विष्टम्भो धरुणो दिवः । सोमः पवित्रे अस्मयुः ॥

samudro apsu māmṛje viṣṭambho dharuṇo divaḥ | somaḥ pavitre asmayuḥ ||

The juice-distilling Soma, the sustainer, the supporter of heaven, is purified in the water-- favouring us, (it is poured) into the straining cloth.

अचिक्रदद्वृषा हरिर्महान्मित्रो न दर्शतः । सं सूर्येण रोचते ॥

acikradadvṛṣā harirmahānmitro na darśataḥ | saṃ sūryeṇa rocate ||

The mighty golden-hued showerer of blessings utters a sound as it drops, beautiful as a friend; it shines (in the heavens) with the sun.

गिरस्त इन्द ओजसा मर्मृज्यन्ते अपस्युवः । याभिर्मदाय शुम्भसे ॥

girasta inda ojasā marmṛjyante apasyuvaḥ | yābhirmadāya śumbhase ||

O Indu, by the power the busy voices are hallowed which adorn you as you drop for our exhilaratioṇ

तं त्वा मदाय घृष्वय उ लोककृत्नुमीमहे । तव प्रशस्तयो महीः ॥

taṃ tvā madāya ghṛṣvaya u lokakṛtnumīmahe | tava praśastayo mahīḥ ||

We ask you for exhilaration, you the giver of the highest world to your foe-crushing worshipper-- great are your praises.

अस्मभ्यमिन्दविन्द्रयुर्मध्वः पवस्व धारया । पर्जन्यो वृष्टिमाँ इव ॥

asmabhyamindavindrayurmadhvaḥ pavasva dhārayā | parjanyo vṛṣṭimā~ iva ||

Indu, do you, longing for Indra, stream upon us with a shower of ambrosia, like a raining cloud.

गोषा इन्दो नृषा अस्यश्वसा वाजसा उत । आत्मा यज्ञस्य पूर्व्यः ॥

goṣā indo nṛṣā asyaśvasā vājasā uta | ātmā yajñasya pūrvyaḥ ||

Indu, you are the giver of kine, of children, of horses, and of food; you are the primeval soul of the sacrifice.
