[rv-8-97] • 15 श्लोकाः

या इन्द्र भुज आभरः स्वर्वाँ असुरेभ्यः । स्तोतारमिन्मघवन्नस्य वर्धय ये च त्वे वृक्तबर्हिषः ॥

yā indra bhuja ābharaḥ svarvā~ asurebhyaḥ | stotāraminmaghavannasya vardhaya ye ca tve vṛktabarhiṣaḥ ||

Indra, lord of heaven, with those good things which you have carried off from the asuras do youprosper, O Maghavan, your praiser and those who have spread for you the clipped grass.

यमिन्द्र दधिषे त्वमश्वं गां भागमव्ययम् । यजमाने सुन्वति दक्षिणावति तस्मिन्तं धेहि मा पणौ ॥

yamindra dadhiṣe tvamaśvaṃ gāṃ bhāgamavyayam | yajamāne sunvati dakṣiṇāvati tasmintaṃ dhehi mā paṇau ||

Those horses, those cows, that imperishable wealth which you have seized (from your enemies)--bestow them on the sacrificer who offers the Soma and is liberal to the priests-- not on the niggard.

य इन्द्र सस्त्यव्रतोऽनुष्वापमदेवयुः । स्वैः ष एवैर्मुमुरत्पोष्यं रयिं सनुतर्धेहि तं ततः ॥

ya indra sastyavrato'nuṣvāpamadevayuḥ | svaiḥ ṣa evairmumuratpoṣyaṃ rayiṃ sanutardhehi taṃ tataḥ ||

Let him, Indra, who sleeps away careless of the gods and offering no sacrifices-- let him lose hisprecious wealth by his own evil courses, and then do you stow him away in some hidden plural ce.

यच्छक्रासि परावति यदर्वावति वृत्रहन् । अतस्त्वा गीर्भिर्द्युगदिन्द्र केशिभिः सुतावाँ आ विवासति ॥

yacchakrāsi parāvati yadarvāvati vṛtrahan | atastvā gīrbhirdyugadindra keśibhiḥ sutāvā~ ā vivāsati ||

Whether, Śakra, you are in the far-distant region, or whether, slayer of Vṛtra, you are in the lower-- thesacrificeer longs to being you, Indra, from thence by his hymns as by heaven-going steeds.

यद्वासि रोचने दिवः समुद्रस्याधि विष्टपि । यत्पार्थिवे सदने वृत्रहन्तम यदन्तरिक्ष आ गहि ॥

yadvāsi rocane divaḥ samudrasyādhi viṣṭapi | yatpārthive sadane vṛtrahantama yadantarikṣa ā gahi ||

Or whether you are in the brightness of heaven, or whether in some region in the midst of the sea, orwhether, mightiest slayer of Vṛtra, in some abode in the earth, or whether in the firmament, -- come to us.

स नः सोमेषु सोमपाः सुतेषु शवसस्पते । मादयस्व राधसा सूनृतावतेन्द्र राया परीणसा ॥

sa naḥ someṣu somapāḥ suteṣu śavasaspate | mādayasva rādhasā sūnṛtāvatendra rāyā parīṇasā ||

Indra, drinker of the Soma, lord of strength, now that our Soma- libations have been effused, do yougladden us with wholesome food and ample wealth.

मा न इन्द्र परा वृणग्भवा नः सधमाद्यः । त्वं न ऊती त्वमिन्न आप्यं मा न इन्द्र परा वृणक् ॥

mā na indra parā vṛṇagbhavā naḥ sadhamādyaḥ | tvaṃ na ūtī tvaminna āpyaṃ mā na indra parā vṛṇak ||

Leave us not, Indra, but share our joy; you are our protection, you are our kindred; Indra, leave us not.

अस्मे इन्द्र सचा सुते नि षदा पीतये मधु । कृधी जरित्रे मघवन्नवो महदस्मे इन्द्र सचा सुते ॥

asme indra sacā sute ni ṣadā pītaye madhu | kṛdhī jaritre maghavannavo mahadasme indra sacā sute ||

Sit with us, Indra, at the oblation to drink the Soma; Maghavan, perform a mighty protection for yourworshipper, (seated) with us at the oblation.

न त्वा देवास आशत न मर्त्यासो अद्रिवः । विश्वा जातानि शवसाभिभूरसि न त्वा देवास आशत ॥

na tvā devāsa āśata na martyāso adrivaḥ | viśvā jātāni śavasābhibhūrasi na tvā devāsa āśata ||

Thunderer, neither gods nor mortals equal you by their acts; you surpass all beings by your might, thegods equal you not.

विश्वाः पृतना अभिभूतरं नरं सजूस्ततक्षुरिन्द्रं जजनुश्च राजसे । क्रत्वा वरिष्ठं वर आमुरिमुतोग्रमोजिष्ठं तवसं तरस्विनम् ॥

viśvāḥ pṛtanā abhibhūtaraṃ naraṃ sajūstatakṣurindraṃ jajanuśca rājase | kratvā variṣṭhaṃ vara āmurimutogramojiṣṭhaṃ tavasaṃ tarasvinam ||

The assembled (priests) have roused Indra, the leader, the conqueror in all battles; they have createdhim (by their hymns) to shine-- him the mightiest in his acts, the smiter of enemies for spoil, the terrible, the mostpowerful, the stalwart, the furious.

समीं रेभासो अस्वरन्निन्द्रं सोमस्य पीतये । स्वर्पतिं यदीं वृधे धृतव्रतो ह्योजसा समूतिभिः ॥

samīṃ rebhāso asvarannindraṃ somasya pītaye | svarpatiṃ yadīṃ vṛdhe dhṛtavrato hyojasā samūtibhiḥ ||

The Rebhas have together praised Indra that he may drink the Soma; when (they praise) the lord ofheaven that he may wax strong (by the oblations), then he, observant of pious rites, is united to his strength andhis protecting guards.

नेमिं नमन्ति चक्षसा मेषं विप्रा अभिस्वरा । सुदीतयो वो अद्रुहोऽपि कर्णे तरस्विनः समृक्वभिः ॥

nemiṃ namanti cakṣasā meṣaṃ viprā abhisvarā | sudītayo vo adruho'pi karṇe tarasvinaḥ samṛkvabhiḥ ||

At the first sight (the Rebhas) bow to him who is the circumferene of the wheel, the priests (worship)with their praise (Indra) the ram; radiant and unharming, do you also, full of earnestness, sing in his ear with yourhymns.

तमिन्द्रं जोहवीमि मघवानमुग्रं सत्रा दधानमप्रतिष्कुतं शवांसि । मंहिष्ठो गीर्भिरा च यज्ञियो ववर्तद्राये नो विश्वा सुपथा कृणोतु वज्री ॥

tamindraṃ johavīmi maghavānamugraṃ satrā dadhānamapratiṣkutaṃ śavāṃsi | maṃhiṣṭho gīrbhirā ca yajñiyo vavartadrāye no viśvā supathā kṛṇotu vajrī ||

Again and again I invoke the strong Indra, Maghavan, who alone really possesses might, the irresistible;may he draw near through our songs, most bounteous and worthy of sacrifice; may he, the thunderer, make allthings prosperous for our wealth.

त्वं पुर इन्द्र चिकिदेना व्योजसा शविष्ठ शक्र नाशयध्यै । त्वद्विश्वानि भुवनानि वज्रिन्द्यावा रेजेते पृथिवी च भीषा ॥

tvaṃ pura indra cikidenā vyojasā śaviṣṭha śakra nāśayadhyai | tvadviśvāni bhuvanāni vajrindyāvā rejete pṛthivī ca bhīṣā ||

Indra, mightiest Śakra, you know how to destroy those cities (of Śambara) by your strength at you allworlds tremble, thunderer-- heaven and earth (tremble) with fear.

तन्म ऋतमिन्द्र शूर चित्र पात्वपो न वज्रिन्दुरिताति पर्षि भूरि । कदा न इन्द्र राय आ दशस्येर्विश्वप्स्न्यस्य स्पृहयाय्यस्य राजन् ॥

tanma ṛtamindra śūra citra pātvapo na vajrinduritāti parṣi bhūri | kadā na indra rāya ā daśasyerviśvapsnyasya spṛhayāyyasya rājan ||

Indra, hero assuming many forms, may that truthfulness of you protect me; bear us, thunderer, over ourmany sins as over waters; when, radiant Indra, will you give us some wealth, desirable to all, manifold in itskinds?
