[rv-8-98] • 12 श्लोकाः

इन्द्राय साम गायत विप्राय बृहते बृहत् । धर्मकृते विपश्चिते पनस्यवे ॥

indrāya sāma gāyata viprāya bṛhate bṛhat | dharmakṛte vipaścite panasyave ||

Sing a Sāman to Indra, a Bṛhat to the mighty sage, to the performer, of religious rites, the all-knowingone who longs for praise.

त्वमिन्द्राभिभूरसि त्वं सूर्यमरोचयः । विश्वकर्मा विश्वदेवो महाँ असि ॥

tvamindrābhibhūrasi tvaṃ sūryamarocayaḥ | viśvakarmā viśvadevo mahā~ asi ||

You are the conqueror, Indra; you have lighted in the sun; you are the maker of all, the lord of all thegods, the mighty.

विभ्राजञ्ज्योतिषा स्वरगच्छो रोचनं दिवः । देवास्त इन्द्र सख्याय येमिरे ॥

vibhrājañjyotiṣā svaragaccho rocanaṃ divaḥ | devāsta indra sakhyāya yemire ||

You have pervaded the light of the sky, illumining heaven by your splendour; the gods, Indra,submissively solicit your friendship.

एन्द्र नो गधि प्रियः सत्राजिदगोह्यः । गिरिर्न विश्वतस्पृथुः पतिर्दिवः ॥

endra no gadhi priyaḥ satrājidagohyaḥ | girirna viśvataspṛthuḥ patirdivaḥ ||

Come to us, Indra, beloved one, triumphant, and whom, none can conceal- - lord of heaven, vast on allsides as a mountain.

अभि हि सत्य सोमपा उभे बभूथ रोदसी । इन्द्रासि सुन्वतो वृधः पतिर्दिवः ॥

abhi hi satya somapā ubhe babhūtha rodasī | indrāsi sunvato vṛdhaḥ patirdivaḥ ||

Truthful drinker of the Soma, you surpass heaven and earth; O Indra, you are the fosterer of him whoprepares the libation, you are the lord of heaven.

त्वं हि शश्वतीनामिन्द्र दर्ता पुरामसि । हन्ता दस्योर्मनोर्वृधः पतिर्दिवः ॥

tvaṃ hi śaśvatīnāmindra dartā purāmasi | hantā dasyormanorvṛdhaḥ patirdivaḥ ||

You, Indra, are the stormer of many hostile cities, the slayer of the Dasyu, the fosterer of man, the lordof heaven.

अधा हीन्द्र गिर्वण उप त्वा कामान्महः ससृज्महे । उदेव यन्त उदभिः ॥

adhā hīndra girvaṇa upa tvā kāmānmahaḥ sasṛjmahe | udeva yanta udabhiḥ ||

Indra worthy of hymns, we send our earnest praises to you as men going by water (splash their friends)with handfuls.

वार्ण त्वा यव्याभिर्वर्धन्ति शूर ब्रह्माणि । वावृध्वांसं चिदद्रिवो दिवेदिवे ॥

vārṇa tvā yavyābhirvardhanti śūra brahmāṇi | vāvṛdhvāṃsaṃ cidadrivo divedive ||

As the lake (swells) with the rivers, so our praises, O hero, O thunderer, augment you as you growmore and more day by day.

युञ्जन्ति हरी इषिरस्य गाथयोरौ रथ उरुयुगे । इन्द्रवाहा वचोयुजा ॥

yuñjanti harī iṣirasya gāthayorau ratha uruyuge | indravāhā vacoyujā ||

(The priests) by their hymn yoke in the swift deity's yoked at a word.

त्वं न इन्द्रा भरँ ओजो नृम्णं शतक्रतो विचर्षणे । आ वीरं पृतनाषहम् ॥

tvaṃ na indrā bhara~ ojo nṛmṇaṃ śatakrato vicarṣaṇe | ā vīraṃ pṛtanāṣaham ||

Indra, all-beholding Maghavan, bring us strength and wealth; (we solicit you) the host-overpoweringchampion.

त्वं हि नः पिता वसो त्वं माता शतक्रतो बभूविथ । अधा ते सुम्नमीमहे ॥

tvaṃ hi naḥ pitā vaso tvaṃ mātā śatakrato babhūvitha | adhā te sumnamīmahe ||

You have been our father, O giver of dwellings, you our mother O Śatakratu; we pray for thathappiness which is yours.

त्वां शुष्मिन्पुरुहूत वाजयन्तमुप ब्रुवे शतक्रतो । स नो रास्व सुवीर्यम् ॥

tvāṃ śuṣminpuruhūta vājayantamupa bruve śatakrato | sa no rāsva suvīryam ||

Mighty Śatakratu, invoked by many, I praise you desirous of offerings; do you give us wealth.
