[rv-8-92] • 33 श्लोकाः

पान्तमा वो अन्धस इन्द्रमभि प्र गायत । विश्वासाहं शतक्रतुं मंहिष्ठं चर्षणीनाम् ॥

pāntamā vo andhasa indramabhi pra gāyata | viśvāsāhaṃ śatakratuṃ maṃhiṣṭhaṃ carṣaṇīnām ||

Sing priests, that Indra, who drinks your offered Soma-- the foe- subduing Śatakratu, most liberal ofmen.

पुरुहूतं पुरुष्टुतं गाथान्यं सनश्रुतम् । इन्द्र इति ब्रवीतन ॥

puruhūtaṃ puruṣṭutaṃ gāthānyaṃ sanaśrutam | indra iti bravītana ||

Proclaim that deity as Indra, who is invoked by many, who is praised by many, who is worthy of songsand renowned as eternal.

इन्द्र इन्नो महानां दाता वाजानां नृतुः । महाँ अभिज्ञ्वा यमत् ॥

indra inno mahānāṃ dātā vājānāṃ nṛtuḥ | mahā~ abhijñvā yamat ||

May Indra who causes all to rejoice, be the giver of plural ntiful food to us; may be, the mighty, bring us(riches) up to our knees.

अपादु शिप्र्यन्धसः सुदक्षस्य प्रहोषिणः । इन्दोरिन्द्रो यवाशिरः ॥

apādu śipryandhasaḥ sudakṣasya prahoṣiṇaḥ | indorindro yavāśiraḥ ||

Indra, the handsome-jawed, has drunk of th dropping Soma cooked with barley, (the offering) ofSudakṣa assiduous in sacrifice.

तम्वभि प्रार्चतेन्द्रं सोमस्य पीतये । तदिद्ध्यस्य वर्धनम् ॥

tamvabhi prārcatendraṃ somasya pītaye | tadiddhyasya vardhanam ||

Loudly praise that Indra that he may drink the Soma-- it is this which gives him strength.

अस्य पीत्वा मदानां देवो देवस्यौजसा । विश्वाभि भुवना भुवत् ॥

asya pītvā madānāṃ devo devasyaujasā | viśvābhi bhuvanā bhuvat ||

The god, having quaffed its exhilarations, by the strength of the divine (Soma) has conquered allworlds.

त्यमु वः सत्रासाहं विश्वासु गीर्ष्वायतम् । आ च्यावयस्यूतये ॥

tyamu vaḥ satrāsāhaṃ viśvāsu gīrṣvāyatam | ā cyāvayasyūtaye ||

Bring here for our protection Indra the conqueror of many, who pervades all your praises.

युध्मं सन्तमनर्वाणं सोमपामनपच्युतम् । नरमवार्यक्रतुम् ॥

yudhmaṃ santamanarvāṇaṃ somapāmanapacyutam | naramavāryakratum ||

The warrior, whom none oppose and none can harm, the quaffer of the Soma, the leader whose deedscannot be hindered.

शिक्षा ण इन्द्र राय आ पुरु विद्वाँ ऋचीषम । अवा नः पार्ये धने ॥

śikṣā ṇa indra rāya ā puru vidvā~ ṛcīṣama | avā naḥ pārye dhane ||

O you worthy of our praise, you who know all things, repeatedly give us riches, protect us by the wealthour enemies.

अतश्चिदिन्द्र ण उपा याहि शतवाजया । इषा सहस्रवाजया ॥

ataścidindra ṇa upā yāhi śatavājayā | iṣā sahasravājayā ||

Come to us, Indra, from there with food of a hundred-fold strength, of a thousand-fold strength.

अयाम धीवतो धियोऽर्वद्भिः शक्र गोदरे । जयेम पृत्सु वज्रिवः ॥

ayāma dhīvato dhiyo'rvadbhiḥ śakra godare | jayema pṛtsu vajrivaḥ ||

Śakra, let us go, proved in deeds, to deeds; thunderer, cleaver of mountains, let us conquer in battlesby your steeds.

वयमु त्वा शतक्रतो गावो न यवसेष्वा । उक्थेषु रणयामसि ॥

vayamu tvā śatakrato gāvo na yavaseṣvā | uktheṣu raṇayāmasi ||

We refresh you, Śatakratu, with our praises, as (the herdsman) the cattle with (different kinds of)paasture.

विश्वा हि मर्त्यत्वनानुकामा शतक्रतो । अगन्म वज्रिन्नाशसः ॥

viśvā hi martyatvanānukāmā śatakrato | aganma vajrinnāśasaḥ ||

All mortal natures, Śatakratu, are moved by desire; we feel wishes, O thunderer.

त्वे सु पुत्र शवसोऽवृत्रन्कामकातयः । न त्वामिन्द्राति रिच्यते ॥

tve su putra śavaso'vṛtrankāmakātayaḥ | na tvāmindrāti ricyate ||

O son of strength, men, uttering their desires, abide happily in you, none, Indra, surpasses you.

स नो वृषन्त्सनिष्ठया सं घोरया द्रवित्न्वा । धियाविड्ढि पुरंध्या ॥

sa no vṛṣantsaniṣṭhayā saṃ ghorayā dravitnvā | dhiyāviḍḍhi puraṃdhyā ||

Showerer (of blessings), protect us by your action, which is most bounteous yet awful, foe-terrifying yetmany-cherishing.

यस्ते नूनं शतक्रतविन्द्र द्युम्नितमो मदः । तेन नूनं मदे मदेः ॥

yaste nūnaṃ śatakratavindra dyumnitamo madaḥ | tena nūnaṃ made madeḥ ||

Rejoice us, Indra, Śatakratu, as you rejoice in that most glorious exhilaration of the Soma.

यस्ते चित्रश्रवस्तमो य इन्द्र वृत्रहन्तमः । य ओजोदातमो मदः ॥

yaste citraśravastamo ya indra vṛtrahantamaḥ | ya ojodātamo madaḥ ||

The Soma of yours, Indra, which is most widely renowned, most destrucive of your enemies, and mostrenovating to your strength.

विद्मा हि यस्ते अद्रिवस्त्वादत्तः सत्य सोमपाः । विश्वासु दस्म कृष्टिषु ॥

vidmā hi yaste adrivastvādattaḥ satya somapāḥ | viśvāsu dasma kṛṣṭiṣu ||

Thunderer, smiter of enemies, truthful drinker of the Soma, we know (the wealth) which is given by youto all your votaries.

इन्द्राय मद्वने सुतं परि ष्टोभन्तु नो गिरः । अर्कमर्चन्तु कारवः ॥

indrāya madvane sutaṃ pari ṣṭobhantu no giraḥ | arkamarcantu kāravaḥ ||

Let our voices praise on every side the (Soma) effused to the exhilarated Indra; let the priests dohonour to the (Soma) honoured of all.

यस्मिन्विश्वा अधि श्रियो रणन्ति सप्त संसदः । इन्द्रं सुते हवामहे ॥

yasminviśvā adhi śriyo raṇanti sapta saṃsadaḥ | indraṃ sute havāmahe ||

We invoke, now that the Soma is effused, that Indra in whom all graces are at their height, and in whomthe seven associated priests rejoice.

त्रिकद्रुकेषु चेतनं देवासो यज्ञमत्नत । तमिद्वर्धन्तु नो गिरः ॥

trikadrukeṣu cetanaṃ devāso yajñamatnata | tamidvardhantu no giraḥ ||

The gods extended the heaven-revealing sacrifice in the Trikadruka days-- may our praise prosper iṭ

आ त्वा विशन्त्विन्दवः समुद्रमिव सिन्धवः । न त्वामिन्द्राति रिच्यते ॥

ā tvā viśantvindavaḥ samudramiva sindhavaḥ | na tvāmindrāti ricyate ||

Let the Soma-drops enter you as the rivers the sea: none, Indra surpasses you.

विव्यक्थ महिना वृषन्भक्षं सोमस्य जागृवे । य इन्द्र जठरेषु ते ॥

vivyaktha mahinā vṛṣanbhakṣaṃ somasya jāgṛve | ya indra jaṭhareṣu te ||

Indra, showerer (of blessings), wakeful one, you have attained by your might the drinking of the Somawhich enters your belly.

अरं त इन्द्र कुक्षये सोमो भवतु वृत्रहन् । अरं धामभ्य इन्दवः ॥

araṃ ta indra kukṣaye somo bhavatu vṛtrahan | araṃ dhāmabhya indavaḥ ||

Indra, slayer of Vṛtra,may the Soma be enough for your belly, may the drops be enough for your(various) bodies.

अरमश्वाय गायति श्रुतकक्षो अरं गवे । अरमिन्द्रस्य धाम्ने ॥

aramaśvāya gāyati śrutakakṣo araṃ gave | aramindrasya dhāmne ||

Ṣrutakakṣa sings enough for a horse, enough for a cow, enough for a house of Indra.

अरं हि ष्म सुतेषु णः सोमेष्विन्द्र भूषसि । अरं ते शक्र दावने ॥

araṃ hi ṣma suteṣu ṇaḥ someṣvindra bhūṣasi | araṃ te śakra dāvane ||

When our Soma-libations are effused, you are abundantly able (to drink them)-- may they be enough foryou, the bounteous.

पराकात्ताच्चिदद्रिवस्त्वां नक्षन्त नो गिरः । अरं गमाम ते वयम् ॥

parākāttāccidadrivastvāṃ nakṣanta no giraḥ | araṃ gamāma te vayam ||

May our praises reach you, thunderer, even from afar; may we obtain your (wealth) abundantly.

एवा ह्यसि वीरयुरेवा शूर उत स्थिरः । एवा ते राध्यं मनः ॥

evā hyasi vīrayurevā śūra uta sthiraḥ | evā te rādhyaṃ manaḥ ||

You verily love to smite the mighty, you are a hero and firm (in battle), yourmind is to be propitiated (bypraise).

एवा रातिस्तुवीमघ विश्वेभिर्धायि धातृभिः । अधा चिदिन्द्र मे सचा ॥

evā rātistuvīmagha viśvebhirdhāyi dhātṛbhiḥ | adhā cidindra me sacā ||

Lord of great wealth, your bounty is possessed by all your worshippers; therefore, Indra, be also myally.

मो षु ब्रह्मेव तन्द्रयुर्भुवो वाजानां पते । मत्स्वा सुतस्य गोमतः ॥

mo ṣu brahmeva tandrayurbhuvo vājānāṃ pate | matsvā sutasya gomataḥ ||

Be not like a lazy brāhmaṇa, O lord of food; rejoice thyself by drinking the effused Soma mixed withmilk.

मा न इन्द्राभ्यादिशः सूरो अक्तुष्वा यमन् । त्वा युजा वनेम तत् ॥

mā na indrābhyādiśaḥ sūro aktuṣvā yaman | tvā yujā vanema tat ||

Indra,let not the threatening prowling (demons) obstruct us at night, let us smite them with you as ourhelper.

त्वयेदिन्द्र युजा वयं प्रति ब्रुवीमहि स्पृधः । त्वमस्माकं तव स्मसि ॥

tvayedindra yujā vayaṃ prati bruvīmahi spṛdhaḥ | tvamasmākaṃ tava smasi ||

With you, Indra, as our helper, let us answer our enemies; you are ours, we are yours.

त्वामिद्धि त्वायवोऽनुनोनुवतश्चरान् । सखाय इन्द्र कारवः ॥

tvāmiddhi tvāyavo'nunonuvataścarān | sakhāya indra kāravaḥ ||

Indra, may your friends, the chanters, worship you, devoted to your service and again and againreciting your praise.
