[rv-8-9] • 21 श्लोकाः

आ नूनमश्विना युवं वत्सस्य गन्तमवसे । प्रास्मै यच्छतमवृकं पृथु च्छर्दिर्युयुतं या अरातयः ॥

ā nūnamaśvinā yuvaṃ vatsasya gantamavase | prāsmai yacchatamavṛkaṃ pṛthu cchardiryuyutaṃ yā arātayaḥ ||

Come, Aśvins, without fail, for the protection of the worshipper; confer upon him a secure and spaciousdwelling; drive away those who make no offerings.

यदन्तरिक्षे यद्दिवि यत्पञ्च मानुषाँ अनु । नृम्णं तद्धत्तमश्विना ॥

yadantarikṣe yaddivi yatpañca mānuṣā~ anu | nṛmṇaṃ taddhattamaśvinā ||

Whatever wealth may be in the firmament, in heaven, or among the five (classes) of men, bestow,Aśvins, (upon us).

ये वां दंसांस्यश्विना विप्रासः परिमामृशुः । एवेत्काण्वस्य बोधतम् ॥

ye vāṃ daṃsāṃsyaśvinā viprāsaḥ parimāmṛśuḥ | evetkāṇvasya bodhatam ||

Recognize, Aśvins, (the devotions0 of the son of Kaṇva, as (you have recognized) those former sageswho have repeatedly addresswed pious works to you.

अयं वां घर्मो अश्विना स्तोमेन परि षिच्यते । अयं सोमो मधुमान्वाजिनीवसू येन वृत्रं चिकेतथः ॥

ayaṃ vāṃ gharmo aśvinā stomena pari ṣicyate | ayaṃ somo madhumānvājinīvasū yena vṛtraṃ ciketathaḥ ||

This oblation is poured out, Aśvin, to you with praise; this sweet- savoured Soma is offered to you, whoare alluent with food, (animated) by which you meditate (the destruction) of the foe.

यदप्सु यद्वनस्पतौ यदोषधीषु पुरुदंससा कृतम् । तेन माविष्टमश्विना ॥

yadapsu yadvanaspatau yadoṣadhīṣu purudaṃsasā kṛtam | tena māviṣṭamaśvinā ||

Doers of many deeds, Aśvins preserve me with that (healing virtue) deposited (by you) in the waters, inthe trees, in the herbs.

यन्नासत्या भुरण्यथो यद्वा देव भिषज्यथः । अयं वां वत्सो मतिभिर्न विन्धते हविष्मन्तं हि गच्छथः ॥

yannāsatyā bhuraṇyatho yadvā deva bhiṣajyathaḥ | ayaṃ vāṃ vatso matibhirna vindhate haviṣmantaṃ hi gacchathaḥ ||

Although, Nāsatyās, you cherish (all beings), though, divinities, you heal (all disease),, yet this youradorer does not obtain you by praises (only), you go to him who offers you oblations.

आ नूनमश्विनोॠषिः स्तोमं चिकेत वामया । आ सोमं मधुमत्तमं घर्मं सिञ्चादथर्वणि ॥

ā nūnamaśvinoṝṣiḥ stomaṃ ciketa vāmayā | ā somaṃ madhumattamaṃ gharmaṃ siñcādatharvaṇi ||

When verily you arrive, Aśvins, the ṛṣi understands with excellent (comprehension) the praise (to beaddressed to you); he will sprinkle the sweet- flavoured Soma and the gharma (oblation) on Atharvan fire.

आ नूनं रघुवर्तनिं रथं तिष्ठाथो अश्विना । आ वां स्तोमा इमे मम नभो न चुच्यवीरत ॥

ā nūnaṃ raghuvartaniṃ rathaṃ tiṣṭhātho aśvinā | ā vāṃ stomā ime mama nabho na cucyavīrata ||

Abscond at once, Aśvins, your light-moving chariot; may these praises bring you down radiant as thesun.

यदद्य वां नासत्योक्थैराचुच्युवीमहि । यद्वा वाणीभिरश्विनेवेत्काण्वस्य बोधतम् ॥

yadadya vāṃ nāsatyokthairācucyuvīmahi | yadvā vāṇībhiraśvinevetkāṇvasya bodhatam ||

Acknowledge Nāsatyās, that we may bring you down today by the prayers and he praises of the sonof Kaṇva.

यद्वां कक्षीवाँ उत यद्व्यश्व ऋषिर्यद्वां दीर्घतमा जुहाव । पृथी यद्वां वैन्यः सादनेष्वेवेदतो अश्विना चेतयेथाम् ॥

yadvāṃ kakṣīvā~ uta yadvyaśva ṛṣiryadvāṃ dīrghatamā juhāva | pṛthī yadvāṃ vainyaḥ sādaneṣvevedato aśvinā cetayethām ||

Consider (my praises) in the same maner as (you have considered) when Kakṣīvat praied yo, whenthe ṛṣi Vyaśva, when Dīrghatamas, or Pṛthin, the son of Vena, glorified you in the chambers of sacrifice.

यातं छर्दिष्पा उत नः परस्पा भूतं जगत्पा उत नस्तनूपा । वर्तिस्तोकाय तनयाय यातम् ॥

yātaṃ chardiṣpā uta naḥ paraspā bhūtaṃ jagatpā uta nastanūpā | vartistokāya tanayāya yātam ||

Come (to us as) guardians of our dwelling, become our defenders, be protectors of our dependants,cherishers of our person ns; come to the dwelling for (the good of) our sons and grandsons.

यदिन्द्रेण सरथं याथो अश्विना यद्वा वायुना भवथः समोकसा । यदादित्येभिॠभुभिः सजोषसा यद्वा विष्णोर्विक्रमणेषु तिष्ठथः ॥

yadindreṇa sarathaṃ yātho aśvinā yadvā vāyunā bhavathaḥ samokasā | yadādityebhiṝbhubhiḥ sajoṣasā yadvā viṣṇorvikramaṇeṣu tiṣṭhathaḥ ||

Although, Aśvins you should be riding in the same chariot with Indra, although you should be domiciledwith Vāyu, although you should be enjoying gratification along with the Ādityas and Ṛbhus, although you beproceeding on the tracks of Viṣṇu, (nevertheless come here).

यदद्याश्विनावहं हुवेय वाजसातये । यत्पृत्सु तुर्वणे सहस्तच्छ्रेष्ठमश्विनोरवः ॥

yadadyāśvināvahaṃ huveya vājasātaye | yatpṛtsu turvaṇe sahastacchreṣṭhamaśvinoravaḥ ||

Inasmuch as I invoke you, Aśvins, today for success in war (therefore grant it), for the triumphantprotection of the Aśvins is the most excellent for the destruction (of enemies) in battle.

आ नूनं यातमश्विनेमा हव्यानि वां हिता । इमे सोमासो अधि तुर्वशे यदाविमे कण्वेषु वामथ ॥

ā nūnaṃ yātamaśvinemā havyāni vāṃ hitā | ime somāso adhi turvaśe yadāvime kaṇveṣu vāmatha ||

Come, Aśvins, these libations are prepared for you; those libations which were presented you byTurvaśa and Yadu, they are now offered to you by Kaṇvas.

यन्नासत्या पराके अर्वाके अस्ति भेषजम् । तेन नूनं विमदाय प्रचेतसा छर्दिर्वत्साय यच्छतम् ॥

yannāsatyā parāke arvāke asti bheṣajam | tena nūnaṃ vimadāya pracetasā chardirvatsāya yacchatam ||

The healing drug, Nāsatyās, that is afar off or near, wherewith (you wen) to (his) dwelling for thesake of Vimada, do you who are of surpassing wisdom now grant to Vatsa.

अभुत्स्यु प्र देव्या साकं वाचाहमश्विनोः । व्यावर्देव्या मतिं वि रातिं मर्त्येभ्यः ॥

abhutsyu pra devyā sākaṃ vācāhamaśvinoḥ | vyāvardevyā matiṃ vi rātiṃ martyebhyaḥ ||

I awake with the pious praise of the Aśvins; scatter, goddess, (the darkness) at my eulogy; bestowwealth upon (us) mortals.

प्र बोधयोषो अश्विना प्र देवि सूनृते महि । प्र यज्ञहोतरानुषक्प्र मदाय श्रवो बृहत् ॥

pra bodhayoṣo aśvinā pra devi sūnṛte mahi | pra yajñahotarānuṣakpra madāya śravo bṛhat ||

Uṣas, truht-speaking mighty goddess, awake the Aśvins; invoker of the adorable (deities, arouse them)successively; the copious sacrificial food (is prepared) for their exhilaration.

यदुषो यासि भानुना सं सूर्येण रोचसे । आ हायमश्विनो रथो वर्तिर्याति नृपाय्यम् ॥

yaduṣo yāsi bhānunā saṃ sūryeṇa rocase | ā hāyamaśvino ratho vartiryāti nṛpāyyam ||

When, Uṣas, you move with radiance, you shine equally with the sun; and this chariot of the Aśvinsproceeds to the hall of sacrifice frequented by the leaders (of the rite).

यदापीतासो अंशवो गावो न दुह्र ऊधभिः । यद्वा वाणीरनूषत प्र देवयन्तो अश्विना ॥

yadāpītāso aṃśavo gāvo na duhra ūdhabhiḥ | yadvā vāṇīranūṣata pra devayanto aśvinā ||

When the yellow Soma stalks milk forth as cows from their udders, when the devout (priests) repeat thewords of praise, then, O Aśvins, preserve us.

प्र द्युम्नाय प्र शवसे प्र नृषाह्याय शर्मणे । प्र दक्षाय प्रचेतसा ॥

pra dyumnāya pra śavase pra nṛṣāhyāya śarmaṇe | pra dakṣāya pracetasā ||

Endowed with great wisdom, preserve us for fame, for strength, for victory, for happiness, forprosperity.

यन्नूनं धीभिरश्विना पितुर्योना निषीदथः । यद्वा सुम्नेभिरुक्थ्या ॥

yannūnaṃ dhībhiraśvinā pituryonā niṣīdathaḥ | yadvā sumnebhirukthyā ||

Although, Aśvins, you be seated in the region of the paternal (heaven engaged in) holy rites, or,glorified by us, (abide there) with plural asures, (yet come here).
