[rv-8-8] • 23 श्लोकाः

आ नो विश्वाभिरूतिभिरश्विना गच्छतं युवम् । दस्रा हिरण्यवर्तनी पिबतं सोम्यं मधु ॥

ā no viśvābhirūtibhiraśvinā gacchataṃ yuvam | dasrā hiraṇyavartanī pibataṃ somyaṃ madhu ||

Come to us, Aśvins, with all your protections; Dasras, riders in a golden chariot, drink the sweet Soma.

आ नूनं यातमश्विना रथेन सूर्यत्वचा । भुजी हिरण्यपेशसा कवी गम्भीरचेतसा ॥

ā nūnaṃ yātamaśvinā rathena sūryatvacā | bhujī hiraṇyapeśasā kavī gambhīracetasā ||

Aśvin, partakers of sacrificial food, decorated with golden ornaments, wise, and endowed with profoundintellects, come verily in your chariot, invested with solar radiance.

आ यातं नहुषस्पर्यान्तरिक्षात्सुवृक्तिभिः । पिबाथो अश्विना मधु कण्वानां सवने सुतम् ॥

ā yātaṃ nahuṣasparyāntarikṣātsuvṛktibhiḥ | pibātho aśvinā madhu kaṇvānāṃ savane sutam ||

Come from (the world of) man, come from the firmament, (attracted) by our pious praises, drink, Aśvins,the sweet Soma offered at the sacriice of the Kaṇvas.

आ नो यातं दिवस्पर्यान्तरिक्षादधप्रिया । पुत्रः कण्वस्य वामिह सुषाव सोम्यं मधु ॥

ā no yātaṃ divasparyāntarikṣādadhapriyā | putraḥ kaṇvasya vāmiha suṣāva somyaṃ madhu ||

Come to us from above the heaven, you who love the (world) below, (come) from the firmament; the sonof Kaṇva has been poured forth for you the sweet Soma libation.

आ नो यातमुपश्रुत्यश्विना सोमपीतये । स्वाहा स्तोमस्य वर्धना प्र कवी धीतिभिर्नरा ॥

ā no yātamupaśrutyaśvinā somapītaye | svāhā stomasya vardhanā pra kavī dhītibhirnarā ||

Come, Aśvins, to drink the Soma at our sacrifice, you who are praised (by him) and honoured by hispious acts, benefactors of the worshipper, sages and leaders of rites.

यच्चिद्धि वां पुर ऋषयो जुहूरेऽवसे नरा । आ यातमश्विना गतमुपेमां सुष्टुतिं मम ॥

yacciddhi vāṃ pura ṛṣayo juhūre'vase narā | ā yātamaśvinā gatamupemāṃ suṣṭutiṃ mama ||

Leaders of rites, when the Ṛṣis formerly invoked you for protection, you came; so now, Aśvins, comeat my devout praises.

दिवश्चिद्रोचनादध्या नो गन्तं स्वर्विदा । धीभिर्वत्सप्रचेतसा स्तोमेभिर्हवनश्रुता ॥

divaścidrocanādadhyā no gantaṃ svarvidā | dhībhirvatsapracetasā stomebhirhavanaśrutā ||

Familiar with heaven, come to us from the sky, or from above the bright (firmament); favourably inclidedto the worshipper, (come), induced by his pious acts; hearers of invocations (come, induced) by our praiseṣ

किमन्ये पर्यासतेऽस्मत्स्तोमेभिरश्विना । पुत्रः कण्वस्य वामृषिर्गीर्भिर्वत्सो अवीवृधत् ॥

kimanye paryāsate'smatstomebhiraśvinā | putraḥ kaṇvasya vāmṛṣirgīrbhirvatso avīvṛdhat ||

What others than ourselves adore the Aśvins with praises? The Ṛṣi Vatsa, the son of Kaṇva, hasmagnified you with hymns.

आ वां विप्र इहावसेऽह्वत्स्तोमेभिरश्विना । अरिप्रा वृत्रहन्तमा ता नो भूतं मयोभुवा ॥

ā vāṃ vipra ihāvase'hvatstomebhiraśvinā | ariprā vṛtrahantamā tā no bhūtaṃ mayobhuvā ||

The wise adorer invokes you hither with praise, Aśvins, for protection; sinless, utter destroyers ofenemies, be to us the sources of felicity.

आ यद्वां योषणा रथमतिष्ठद्वाजिनीवसू । विश्वान्यश्विना युवं प्र धीतान्यगच्छतम् ॥

ā yadvāṃ yoṣaṇā rathamatiṣṭhadvājinīvasū | viśvānyaśvinā yuvaṃ pra dhītānyagacchatam ||

Affluent in sacrifices, when the maiden (sūrya) mounted your chariot, then, Aśvins, you obtained allyour desires.

अतः सहस्रनिर्णिजा रथेना यातमश्विना । वत्सो वां मधुमद्वचोऽशंसीत्काव्यः कविः ॥

ataḥ sahasranirṇijā rathenā yātamaśvinā | vatso vāṃ madhumadvaco'śaṃsītkāvyaḥ kaviḥ ||

From wheresoever (you may be) come, Aśvins, with your thousandfold diversified chariot; the sageVatsa, the son of Kavi, has addressed you with sweet worlds.

पुरुमन्द्रा पुरूवसू मनोतरा रयीणाम् । स्तोमं मे अश्विनाविममभि वह्नी अनूषाताम् ॥

purumandrā purūvasū manotarā rayīṇām | stomaṃ me aśvināvimamabhi vahnī anūṣātām ||

Delighters of many, abonding in wealth, bestowers of riches, Aśvins, sustainers of all, approve of thismy adoration.

आ नो विश्वान्यश्विना धत्तं राधांस्यह्रया । कृतं न ऋत्वियावतो मा नो रीरधतं निदे ॥

ā no viśvānyaśvinā dhattaṃ rādhāṃsyahrayā | kṛtaṃ na ṛtviyāvato mā no rīradhataṃ nide ||

Grant us, Aśvins, all riches that may not bring us shame, make us the begetters of progeny in dueseason, subject us not to reproach.

यन्नासत्या परावति यद्वा स्थो अध्यम्बरे । अतः सहस्रनिर्णिजा रथेना यातमश्विना ॥

yannāsatyā parāvati yadvā stho adhyambare | ataḥ sahasranirṇijā rathenā yātamaśvinā ||

Whether, Nāsatyās, you be far off, or whether you be near, come from there wiḥ your thousandolddiversified chariot.

यो वां नासत्यावृषिर्गीर्भिर्वत्सो अवीवृधत् । तस्मै सहस्रनिर्णिजमिषं धत्तं घृतश्चुतम् ॥

yo vāṃ nāsatyāvṛṣirgīrbhirvatso avīvṛdhat | tasmai sahasranirṇijamiṣaṃ dhattaṃ ghṛtaścutam ||

Give, Nāsatyās, food of many kinds dripping with butter to him, the ṛṣi Vatsa, who has magnifiedyou both with hymns.

प्रास्मा ऊर्जं घृतश्चुतमश्विना यच्छतं युवम् । यो वां सुम्नाय तुष्टवद्वसूयाद्दानुनस्पती ॥

prāsmā ūrjaṃ ghṛtaścutamaśvinā yacchataṃ yuvam | yo vāṃ sumnāya tuṣṭavadvasūyāddānunaspatī ||

Give, Aśvins, invigorating food, dripping with butter, to him who praises you, the lords of liberality, toobtain happiness; who desires affluence.

आ नो गन्तं रिशादसेमं स्तोमं पुरुभुजा । कृतं नः सुश्रियो नरेमा दातमभिष्टये ॥

ā no gantaṃ riśādasemaṃ stomaṃ purubhujā | kṛtaṃ naḥ suśriyo naremā dātamabhiṣṭaye ||

Confounders of the malignant, partakers of many (oblations), come to this our adoration; render usprosperous leaders (of rites); give these (good things of earth) to our desires.

आ वां विश्वाभिरूतिभिः प्रियमेधा अहूषत । राजन्तावध्वराणामश्विना यामहूतिषु ॥

ā vāṃ viśvābhirūtibhiḥ priyamedhā ahūṣata | rājantāvadhvarāṇāmaśvinā yāmahūtiṣu ||

The Priyamedhas at the sacrifices to the gods invoke you, Aśvins, who rule over religious rites,together with your protections.

आ नो गन्तं मयोभुवाश्विना शम्भुवा युवम् । यो वां विपन्यू धीतिभिर्गीर्भिर्वत्सो अवीवृधत् ॥

ā no gantaṃ mayobhuvāśvinā śambhuvā yuvam | yo vāṃ vipanyū dhītibhirgīrbhirvatso avīvṛdhat ||

Come to us, Aśvins, sources of happiness, sources of health; (come), adorable (Aśvins), to that Vatsa,who has magnified you with sacrifices and with praises.

याभिः कण्वं मेधातिथिं याभिर्वशं दशव्रजम् । याभिर्गोशर्यमावतं ताभिर्नोऽवतं नरा ॥

yābhiḥ kaṇvaṃ medhātithiṃ yābhirvaśaṃ daśavrajam | yābhirgośaryamāvataṃ tābhirno'vataṃ narā ||

Leaders (of rites), protect us with those protections with which you have protected Kaṇva andMedhātithi, Viśa and Daśavraja, with which you have protected Gośarya.

याभिर्नरा त्रसदस्युमावतं कृत्व्ये धने । ताभिः ष्वस्माँ अश्विना प्रावतं वाजसातये ॥

yābhirnarā trasadasyumāvataṃ kṛtvye dhane | tābhiḥ ṣvasmā~ aśvinā prāvataṃ vājasātaye ||

(And) with which, leaders (of rites), you protected Trasadasyu when wealth was to be acquired; do youwith the same graciously protec tus, Aśvins, for the acquisition of food.

प्र वां स्तोमाः सुवृक्तयो गिरो वर्धन्त्वश्विना । पुरुत्रा वृत्रहन्तमा ता नो भूतं पुरुस्पृहा ॥

pra vāṃ stomāḥ suvṛktayo giro vardhantvaśvinā | purutrā vṛtrahantamā tā no bhūtaṃ puruspṛhā ||

May (perfect) hymns and holy praises magnify you, Aśvins; protectors of many, exerminators of foes,greatly are you desired of us.

त्रीणि पदान्यश्विनोराविः सान्ति गुहा परः । कवी ऋतस्य पत्मभिरर्वाग्जीवेभ्यस्परि ॥

trīṇi padānyaśvinorāviḥ sānti guhā paraḥ | kavī ṛtasya patmabhirarvāgjīvebhyaspari ||

The three wheels (of the chariot) of he Aśvins, which were invisible, have become manifest; do youtwo, who are cognizant of the past, (come) by the paths of truth to the presence of living beings.
