[rv-8-76] • 12 श्लोकाः

इमं नु मायिनं हुव इन्द्रमीशानमोजसा । मरुत्वन्तं न वृञ्जसे ॥

imaṃ nu māyinaṃ huva indramīśānamojasā | marutvantaṃ na vṛñjase ||

I invoke now for the destruction of my enemies the wise Indra attended by the Maruts, ruling all by hispower.

अयमिन्द्रो मरुत्सखा वि वृत्रस्याभिनच्छिरः । वज्रेण शतपर्वणा ॥

ayamindro marutsakhā vi vṛtrasyābhinacchiraḥ | vajreṇa śataparvaṇā ||

Indra, attended by the Maruts, has cleft the head of Vṛtra with his hundred-jointed thunderbolt.

वावृधानो मरुत्सखेन्द्रो वि वृत्रमैरयत् । सृजन्त्समुद्रिया अपः ॥

vāvṛdhāno marutsakhendro vi vṛtramairayat | sṛjantsamudriyā apaḥ ||

Indra increasing in might, attended by the Maruts, has torn Vṛtra asunder, letting loose the waters ofthe firmament.

अयं ह येन वा इदं स्वर्मरुत्वता जितम् । इन्द्रेण सोमपीतये ॥

ayaṃ ha yena vā idaṃ svarmarutvatā jitam | indreṇa somapītaye ||

This is that Indra, by whom assisted by the Maruts, yonder heaven was conquered, to quaff the Soma.

मरुत्वन्तमृजीषिणमोजस्वन्तं विरप्शिनम् । इन्द्रं गीर्भिर्हवामहे ॥

marutvantamṛjīṣiṇamojasvantaṃ virapśinam | indraṃ gīrbhirhavāmahe ||

We invoke with our praises the mighty Indra, accompanied by the Maruts, the vigorous accepter of theresidue of the Soma oblation.

इन्द्रं प्रत्नेन मन्मना मरुत्वन्तं हवामहे । अस्य सोमस्य पीतये ॥

indraṃ pratnena manmanā marutvantaṃ havāmahe | asya somasya pītaye ||

With an ancient hymn we invoke Indra with the Maruts, to drink tis Soma.

मरुत्वाँ इन्द्र मीढ्वः पिबा सोमं शतक्रतो । अस्मिन्यज्ञे पुरुष्टुत ॥

marutvā~ indra mīḍhvaḥ pibā somaṃ śatakrato | asminyajñe puruṣṭuta ||

Indra, Śatakratu, showerer (of blessings), drink the Soma at this offering, accompanied by the Maruts,O invoked of many.

तुभ्येदिन्द्र मरुत्वते सुताः सोमासो अद्रिवः । हृदा हूयन्त उक्थिनः ॥

tubhyedindra marutvate sutāḥ somāso adrivaḥ | hṛdā hūyanta ukthinaḥ ||

Thunderer Indra, to you with the Maruts are these Soma-libations effused-- they are offered to you infaith, with recited hymns.

पिबेदिन्द्र मरुत्सखा सुतं सोमं दिविष्टिषु । वज्रं शिशान ओजसा ॥

pibedindra marutsakhā sutaṃ somaṃ diviṣṭiṣu | vajraṃ śiśāna ojasā ||

Drink, Indra, with your friends the Maruts, this Soma effused on the recurring sacred days, and sharpenyour thunderbolt with (renewed) vigour.

उत्तिष्ठन्नोजसा सह पीत्वी शिप्रे अवेपयः । सोममिन्द्र चमू सुतम् ॥

uttiṣṭhannojasā saha pītvī śipre avepayaḥ | somamindra camū sutam ||

Rising up in your strength, Indra, you did shake your jaws, when you had quaffed the Soma pressedbetween the two boards.

अनु त्वा रोदसी उभे क्रक्षमाणमकृपेताम् । इन्द्र यद्दस्युहाभवः ॥

anu tvā rodasī ubhe krakṣamāṇamakṛpetām | indra yaddasyuhābhavaḥ ||

Let heaven and earth follow you, Indra, as you smile, when you beat down the Dasyu.

वाचमष्टापदीमहं नवस्रक्तिमृतस्पृशम् । इन्द्रात्परि तन्वं ममे ॥

vācamaṣṭāpadīmahaṃ navasraktimṛtaspṛśam | indrātpari tanvaṃ mame ||

I make this sacrificial hymn, reaching to the eight points (of the sky) and rising to a ninth (the sun in thezenith), though it is less than (the dimensions of) Indra.
