[rv-8-75] • 16 श्लोकाः

युक्ष्वा हि देवहूतमाँ अश्वाँ अग्ने रथीरिव । नि होता पूर्व्यः सदः ॥

yukṣvā hi devahūtamā~ aśvā~ agne rathīriva | ni hotā pūrvyaḥ sadaḥ ||

Agni, like a charioteer yoke your god-invoking steeds; eat thyself first, the invoker.

उत नो देव देवाँ अच्छा वोचो विदुष्टरः । श्रद्विश्वा वार्या कृधि ॥

uta no deva devā~ acchā voco viduṣṭaraḥ | śradviśvā vāryā kṛdhi ||

Divine (Agni), proclaim us to the gods as profoundly killed; assure to us all desirable things.

त्वं ह यद्यविष्ठ्य सहसः सूनवाहुत । ऋतावा यज्ञियो भुवः ॥

tvaṃ ha yadyaviṣṭhya sahasaḥ sūnavāhuta | ṛtāvā yajñiyo bhuvaḥ ||

Since you are truthful and worthy of sacrifice, O most youthful, son of strength and everywherehonoured with offerings.

अयमग्निः सहस्रिणो वाजस्य शतिनस्पतिः । मूर्धा कवी रयीणाम् ॥

ayamagniḥ sahasriṇo vājasya śatinaspatiḥ | mūrdhā kavī rayīṇām ||

This Agni is the lord of hundredfold and thousandfold food; he is the head, the seer, (the lord) of wealth.

तं नेमिमृभवो यथा नमस्व सहूतिभिः । नेदीयो यज्ञमङ्गिरः ॥

taṃ nemimṛbhavo yathā namasva sahūtibhiḥ | nedīyo yajñamaṅgiraḥ ||

O Aṅgirasa, with the deities associated in the invocation draw this offering near you as the Ṛbhus(bend) the circumference of a wheel.

तस्मै नूनमभिद्यवे वाचा विरूप नित्यया । वृष्णे चोदस्व सुष्टुतिम् ॥

tasmai nūnamabhidyave vācā virūpa nityayā | vṛṣṇe codasva suṣṭutim ||

Virūpa, with constant voice address your praise to this well-plural ased showerer (of blessings).

कमु ष्विदस्य सेनयाग्नेरपाकचक्षसः । पणिं गोषु स्तरामहे ॥

kamu ṣvidasya senayāgnerapākacakṣasaḥ | paṇiṃ goṣu starāmahe ||

What strong enemy shall we overthrow, to win kine, by the help of the host of this Agni of unmeasuredradiance?

मा नो देवानां विशः प्रस्नातीरिवोस्राः । कृशं न हासुरघ्न्याः ॥

mā no devānāṃ viśaḥ prasnātīrivosrāḥ | kṛśaṃ na hāsuraghnyāḥ ||

May he not (forasake) us, the liegemen of the gods, as the milk- streaming cows (forsake not); the kineabandon not a little (calf).

मा नः समस्य दूढ्यः परिद्वेषसो अंहतिः । ऊर्मिर्न नावमा वधीत् ॥

mā naḥ samasya dūḍhyaḥ paridveṣaso aṃhatiḥ | ūrmirna nāvamā vadhīt ||

Let not the onset of any evil-minded adversary harm us as the wave (overwhelms) a ship.

नमस्ते अग्न ओजसे गृणन्ति देव कृष्टयः । अमैरमित्रमर्दय ॥

namaste agna ojase gṛṇanti deva kṛṣṭayaḥ | amairamitramardaya ||

Divine Agni, men utter your praises for the attainment of strength; by strength destroy the enemy.

कुवित्सु नो गविष्टयेऽग्ने संवेषिषो रयिम् । उरुकृदुरु णस्कृधि ॥

kuvitsu no gaviṣṭaye'gne saṃveṣiṣo rayim | urukṛduru ṇaskṛdhi ||

Agni, send us abundance of wealth to satisfy our desires; giver of free space, grant us abundant rooṃ

मा नो अस्मिन्महाधने परा वर्ग्भारभृद्यथा । संवर्गं सं रयिं जय ॥

mā no asminmahādhane parā vargbhārabhṛdyathā | saṃvargaṃ saṃ rayiṃ jaya ||

Leave us not in this conflict as a bearer his burden win for us the plural ndered wealth of our foes.

अन्यमस्मद्भिया इयमग्ने सिषक्तु दुच्छुना । वर्धा नो अमवच्छवः ॥

anyamasmadbhiyā iyamagne siṣaktu ducchunā | vardhā no amavacchavaḥ ||

Agni, may your plural gues pursue some other to terrify him; increase our vigorous strength in battle.

यस्याजुषन्नमस्विनः शमीमदुर्मखस्य वा । तं घेदग्निर्वृधावति ॥

yasyājuṣannamasvinaḥ śamīmadurmakhasya vā | taṃ ghedagnirvṛdhāvati ||

Agni especially protects (in battle) that praiser or zealous sacrificer whose offerings he has attendeḍ

परस्या अधि संवतोऽवराँ अभ्या तर । यत्राहमस्मि ताँ अव ॥

parasyā adhi saṃvato'varā~ abhyā tara | yatrāhamasmi tā~ ava ||

Deliver us wholly from the hostile army, shield those among whom I am (lord).

विद्मा हि ते पुरा वयमग्ने पितुर्यथावसः । अधा ते सुम्नमीमहे ॥

vidmā hi te purā vayamagne pituryathāvasaḥ | adhā te sumnamīmahe ||

We know your protection, Agni, as of a father in former times, therefore we (again) desire of you thathappiness.
