[rv-8-73] • 18 श्लोकाः

उदीराथामृतायते युञ्जाथामश्विना रथम् । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

udīrāthāmṛtāyate yuñjāthāmaśvinā ratham | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Rise, Aśvins, on my behalf, as I prepare to sacrifice; yoke your ear; let your protection abide near me.

निमिषश्चिज्जवीयसा रथेना यातमश्विना । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

nimiṣaścijjavīyasā rathenā yātamaśvinā | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Come, Aśvins, in your chariot which moves quicker than the twinkling of an eye; let your protectionabide near me.

उप स्तृणीतमत्रये हिमेन घर्ममश्विना । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

upa stṛṇītamatraye himena gharmamaśvinā | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Aśvins, you covered the hot (fire) with cold (water) for Atri; let your protection abide near me.

कुह स्थः कुह जग्मथुः कुह श्येनेव पेतथुः । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

kuha sthaḥ kuha jagmathuḥ kuha śyeneva petathuḥ | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Where are you? Whither are you gone? Wither have you flown like hawks? Let your protection abidenear me.

यदद्य कर्हि कर्हि चिच्छुश्रूयातमिमं हवम् । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

yadadya karhi karhi cicchuśrūyātamimaṃ havam | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

If today, at some time, in some plural ce, you would but hear my invocation-- let your protection abide nearme.

अश्विना यामहूतमा नेदिष्ठं याम्याप्यम् । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

aśvinā yāmahūtamā nediṣṭhaṃ yāmyāpyam | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

The Aśvins are earnestly to be invoked in emergency; I enter into close friendshipwith them; let yourprotection abide near me.

अवन्तमत्रये गृहं कृणुतं युवमश्विना । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

avantamatraye gṛhaṃ kṛṇutaṃ yuvamaśvinā | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Aśvins, you made a sheltering house for Atri; let your protection abide near me.

वरेथे अग्निमातपो वदते वल्ग्वत्रये । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

varethe agnimātapo vadate valgvatraye | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

You stayed the fire from its fierceness for Atri, while he praied you acceptably; let your protection abidenear me.

प्र सप्तवध्रिराशसा धारामग्नेरशायत । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

pra saptavadhrirāśasā dhārāmagneraśāyata | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Through his praise of you Saptavadhri set the fire's flame-point (to his basket); let your protection abidenear me.

इहा गतं वृषण्वसू शृणुतं म इमं हवम् । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

ihā gataṃ vṛṣaṇvasū śṛṇutaṃ ma imaṃ havam | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Come hither, lords of abundan wealth, hear this my invocation; let your protection abide near me.

किमिदं वां पुराणवज्जरतोरिव शस्यते । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

kimidaṃ vāṃ purāṇavajjaratoriva śasyate | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Why is this (repeated invocation) addressed to you as if you were decrepit like old men? Let yourprotection abide near me.

समानं वां सजात्यं समानो बन्धुरश्विना । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

samānaṃ vāṃ sajātyaṃ samāno bandhuraśvinā | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Aśvins, your relationship is common and you have a common kinsman; let your protection abide nearme.

यो वां रजांस्यश्विना रथो वियाति रोदसी । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

yo vāṃ rajāṃsyaśvinā ratho viyāti rodasī | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Your chariot, Aśvins, moves swifty through the worlds, through heaven and earth; let your protectionabide near me.

आ नो गव्येभिरश्व्यैः सहस्रैरुप गच्छतम् । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

ā no gavyebhiraśvyaiḥ sahasrairupa gacchatam | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Come to us with thousands of herds of cattle and horses; let your protection abide near me.

मा नो गव्येभिरश्व्यैः सहस्रेभिरति ख्यतम् । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

mā no gavyebhiraśvyaiḥ sahasrebhirati khyatam | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Pass us not by with your thousands of herds of cattle and horses; let your protection abide near uṣ

अरुणप्सुरुषा अभूदकर्ज्योतिॠतावरी । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

aruṇapsuruṣā abhūdakarjyotiṝtāvarī | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

The purple-tinted Dawn has appeared, the mistress of the sacrifice spreads her light; le tyour protectionabide near me.

अश्विना सु विचाकशद्वृक्षं परशुमाँ इव । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

aśvinā su vicākaśadvṛkṣaṃ paraśumā~ iva | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

Aśvins, the splendidly-brilliant (sun cleaves the darkness) as the woodman with his axe a tree; let yourprotection abide near me.

पुरं न धृष्णवा रुज कृष्णया बाधितो विशा । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥

puraṃ na dhṛṣṇavā ruja kṛṣṇayā bādhito viśā | anti ṣadbhūtu vāmavaḥ ||

O bold Saptavadhri, distressed by the entangling and detaining (basket), break through it as through acity; let your protection (Aśvins) abide near me.
