तं गूर्धया स्वर्णरं देवासो देवमरतिं दधन्विरे । देवत्रा हव्यमोहिरे ॥

taṃ gūrdhayā svarṇaraṃ devāso devamaratiṃ dadhanvire | devatrā havyamohire ||

Glorify (Agni), the leader of all (sacred rites); the priests approach the divine lord, (and through him)convey the oblation to the gods.

विभूतरातिं विप्र चित्रशोचिषमग्निमीऴिष्व यन्तुरम् । अस्य मेधस्य सोम्यस्य सोभरे प्रेमध्वराय पूर्व्यम् ॥

vibhūtarātiṃ vipra citraśociṣamagnimīḻiṣva yanturam | asya medhasya somyasya sobhare premadhvarāya pūrvyam ||

Praise, pious Sobhari, at the sacrifice this ancient Agni, who is the giver of opulence, the wonderfullyluminous, the regulator of this rite, at which the Soma is presented.

यजिष्ठं त्वा ववृमहे देवं देवत्रा होतारममर्त्यम् । अस्य यज्ञस्य सुक्रतुम् ॥

yajiṣṭhaṃ tvā vavṛmahe devaṃ devatrā hotāramamartyam | asya yajñasya sukratum ||

We adore you, the most adorable deity, the invoker of the gods, the immortal, the perfecter of thissacrifice.

ऊर्जो नपातं सुभगं सुदीदितिमग्निं श्रेष्ठशोचिषम् । स नो मित्रस्य वरुणस्य सो अपामा सुम्नं यक्षते दिवि ॥

ūrjo napātaṃ subhagaṃ sudīditimagniṃ śreṣṭhaśociṣam | sa no mitrasya varuṇasya so apāmā sumnaṃ yakṣate divi ||

Agni, the great grandson of (sacrificial) food, the possessor of opulence, the illuminator, the shedder ofexcellent light; may he obtain for us by sacrifice the happiness in heaven (that is the gift) of Mitra, of Varuṇa, ofthe waters.

यः समिधा य आहुती यो वेदेन ददाश मर्तो अग्नये । यो नमसा स्वध्वरः ॥

yaḥ samidhā ya āhutī yo vedena dadāśa marto agnaye | yo namasā svadhvaraḥ ||

The man who has presented (worship) to Agni with fuel, with burnt offerings, with the Veda, with(sacrificial) food, and is diligent in pious rites.

तस्येदर्वन्तो रंहयन्त आशवस्तस्य द्युम्नितमं यशः । न तमंहो देवकृतं कुतश्चन न मर्त्यकृतं नशत् ॥

tasyedarvanto raṃhayanta āśavastasya dyumnitamaṃ yaśaḥ | na tamaṃho devakṛtaṃ kutaścana na martyakṛtaṃ naśat ||

Of him assuredly the rapid horses rush (on the foe); his is most brilliant glory; him no evil, whether thework of gods or of men, ever assails.

स्वग्नयो वो अग्निभिः स्याम सूनो सहस ऊर्जां पते । सुवीरस्त्वमस्मयुः ॥

svagnayo vo agnibhiḥ syāma sūno sahasa ūrjāṃ pate | suvīrastvamasmayuḥ ||

Son of strength, lord of (sacrificial) food, may we be favoured with your various fires; do you, (Agni),endowed with energy, be well-disposed towards us!

प्रशंसमानो अतिथिर्न मित्रियोऽग्नी रथो न वेद्यः । त्वे क्षेमासो अपि सन्ति साधवस्त्वं राजा रयीणाम् ॥

praśaṃsamāno atithirna mitriyo'gnī ratho na vedyaḥ | tve kṣemāso api santi sādhavastvaṃ rājā rayīṇām ||

Agni, when honoured like a guest, is gracious to his praisers; he is to be recognized as a chariot(bringing the fruit of the worship); in you verily the virtuous are confiding; you are the rājā of riches.

सो अद्धा दाश्वध्वरोऽग्ने मर्तः सुभग स प्रशंस्यः । स धीभिरस्तु सनिता ॥

so addhā dāśvadhvaro'gne martaḥ subhaga sa praśaṃsyaḥ | sa dhībhirastu sanitā ||

Agni, may he who is the offerer of sacrifice obtain his reward; he, auspicious Agni, is worthy ofcommendation; may he by his pious rites become the giver of wealth.

यस्य त्वमूर्ध्वो अध्वराय तिष्ठसि क्षयद्वीरः स साधते । सो अर्वद्भिः सनिता स विपन्युभिः स शूरैः सनिता कृतम् ॥

yasya tvamūrdhvo adhvarāya tiṣṭhasi kṣayadvīraḥ sa sādhate | so arvadbhiḥ sanitā sa vipanyubhiḥ sa śūraiḥ sanitā kṛtam ||

He whose sacrifice you preside, prospers, having his dwelling filled with male offspring; he is theeffecter of his purposes through his horses, through his wise (counsellors), his valiant adherents.

यस्याग्निर्वपुर्गृहे स्तोमं चनो दधीत विश्ववार्यः । हव्या वा वेविषद्विषः ॥

yasyāgnirvapurgṛhe stomaṃ cano dadhīta viśvavāryaḥ | havyā vā veviṣadviṣaḥ ||

(So is he) in whose dwelling the all-desired and embodied Agni receives praise and food, and conveysoblations to the all-pervading deities.

विप्रस्य वा स्तुवतः सहसो यहो मक्षूतमस्य रातिषु । अवोदेवमुपरिमर्त्यं कृधि वसो विविदुषो वचः ॥

viprasya vā stuvataḥ sahaso yaho makṣūtamasya rātiṣu | avodevamuparimartyaṃ kṛdhi vaso vividuṣo vacaḥ ||

Son of strength, giver of dwellings, plural ce the prayer of he devout intelligent worshipper, who is mostprompt in offerings, below the gods and above mortals.

यो अग्निं हव्यदातिभिर्नमोभिर्वा सुदक्षमाविवासति । गिरा वाजिरशोचिषम् ॥

yo agniṃ havyadātibhirnamobhirvā sudakṣamāvivāsati | girā vājiraśociṣam ||

He who propitiated the powerful and quick radiating Agni with offerings of oblations, with reverentialadorations and with praise, (is prosperous).

समिधा यो निशिती दाशददितिं धामभिरस्य मर्त्यः । विश्वेत्स धीभिः सुभगो जनाँ अति द्युम्नैरुद्न इव तारिषत् ॥

samidhā yo niśitī dāśadaditiṃ dhāmabhirasya martyaḥ | viśvetsa dhībhiḥ subhago janā~ ati dyumnairudna iva tāriṣat ||

The mortal who propitiates Aditi with his (Agni's) many forms by blazing fuel, prospering through hispious rites, shall surpass all men in renown as (if he had crossed over) the waters.

तदग्ने द्युम्नमा भर यत्सासहत्सदने कं चिदत्रिणम् । मन्युं जनस्य दूढ्यः ॥

tadagne dyumnamā bhara yatsāsahatsadane kaṃ cidatriṇam | manyuṃ janasya dūḍhyaḥ ||

Bestow upon us, Agni, that power which may overcome any cannibal (entering) into our abode, thewrath of any malignant (being).

येन चष्टे वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा येन नासत्या भगः । वयं तत्ते शवसा गातुवित्तमा इन्द्रत्वोता विधेमहि ॥

yena caṣṭe varuṇo mitro aryamā yena nāsatyā bhagaḥ | vayaṃ tatte śavasā gātuvittamā indratvotā vidhemahi ||

Protected by Indra, well-knowing the path that through your power, (Agni), we should follow, we adorethat (radiance) of you, by which Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, the Nāsatyās, and Bhaga shine.

ते घेदग्ने स्वाध्यो ये त्वा विप्र निदधिरे नृचक्षसम् । विप्रासो देव सुक्रतुम् ॥

te ghedagne svādhyo ye tvā vipra nidadhire nṛcakṣasam | viprāso deva sukratum ||

Those verily, Agni, are of approved piety who as your worshippers, sagacious deity, have establishedyou as the contemplator of men, the perfomer of good works.

त इद्वेदिं सुभग त आहुतिं ते सोतुं चक्रिरे दिवि । त इद्वाजेभिर्जिग्युर्महद्धनं ये त्वे कामं न्येरिरे ॥

ta idvediṃ subhaga ta āhutiṃ te sotuṃ cakrire divi | ta idvājebhirjigyurmahaddhanaṃ ye tve kāmaṃ nyerire ||

Auspicious (Agni), they have set up the altar, have presented oblations, have expressed the libation ona (fortunate) day; they have won by their efforts infinite wealth who have plural ced their affection upon you.

भद्रो नो अग्निराहुतो भद्रा रातिः सुभग भद्रो अध्वरः । भद्रा उत प्रशस्तयः ॥

bhadro no agnirāhuto bhadrā rātiḥ subhaga bhadro adhvaraḥ | bhadrā uta praśastayaḥ ||

May Agni, to whom burnt-offerings have been made, be propitious to us; auspicious (Agni), may yourgifts be blessings, may the sacrifice (we offer) be beneficial, may our praises yield us happiness.

भद्रं मनः कृणुष्व वृत्रतूर्ये येना समत्सु सासहः । अव स्थिरा तनुहि भूरि शर्धतां वनेमा ते अभिष्टिभिः ॥

bhadraṃ manaḥ kṛṇuṣva vṛtratūrye yenā samatsu sāsahaḥ | ava sthirā tanuhi bhūri śardhatāṃ vanemā te abhiṣṭibhiḥ ||

Give us that resolute mind in conflict by which you conquer in combats; humble the many firm (resolves)of our foes; may we propitiate you by our sacrifices.

ईऴे गिरा मनुर्हितं यं देवा दूतमरतिं न्येरिरे । यजिष्ठं हव्यवाहनम् ॥

īḻe girā manurhitaṃ yaṃ devā dūtamaratiṃ nyerire | yajiṣṭhaṃ havyavāhanam ||

I worship Agni, who has been established by Manu with praise, whom the gods have appointed theirroyal messenger, who is the most adorable, the bearer of oblations.

तिग्मजम्भाय तरुणाय राजते प्रयो गायस्यग्नये । यः पिंशते सूनृताभिः सुवीर्यमग्निर्घृतेभिराहुतः ॥

tigmajambhāya taruṇāya rājate prayo gāyasyagnaye | yaḥ piṃśate sūnṛtābhiḥ suvīryamagnirghṛtebhirāhutaḥ ||

Offer (sacriicial) food to that bright-shining, every-youthful, royal Agni, who, (when gratified) by sincerepraises, and worshipped with oblations, bestows excellent male offspring.

यदी घृतेभिराहुतो वाशीमग्निर्भरत उच्चाव च । असुर इव निर्णिजम् ॥

yadī ghṛtebhirāhuto vāśīmagnirbharata uccāva ca | asura iva nirṇijam ||

When Agni, worshipped with oblations, sends his voice upwards and downwards, as the sun disperseshis rays, (we praise him).

यो हव्यान्यैरयता मनुर्हितो देव आसा सुगन्धिना । विवासते वार्याणि स्वध्वरो होता देवो अमर्त्यः ॥

yo havyānyairayatā manurhito deva āsā sugandhinā | vivāsate vāryāṇi svadhvaro hotā devo amartyaḥ ||

The divine (Agni), established by Manu, the offerer of the sacrifice, the invoker (of the gods), the divine,the immortal, who conveys the oblations in his fragrant mouth, bestows (upon his adorers) desirable (riches).

यदग्ने मर्त्यस्त्वं स्यामहं मित्रमहो अमर्त्यः । सहसः सूनवाहुत ॥

yadagne martyastvaṃ syāmahaṃ mitramaho amartyaḥ | sahasaḥ sūnavāhuta ||

Agni, son of strength, shining with friendly radiance, and worshipped with oblations, may I, who,although mortal, am as you are, become immortal.

न त्वा रासीयाभिशस्तये वसो न पापत्वाय सन्त्य । न मे स्तोतामतीवा न दुर्हितः स्यादग्ने न पापया ॥

na tvā rāsīyābhiśastaye vaso na pāpatvāya santya | na me stotāmatīvā na durhitaḥ syādagne na pāpayā ||

May I not be accusative ed, Vasu, of calumniating you, nor, gracious (Agni), of sinfulness (against you); letnot (the priest) the reciter of my praises be dull of intellect or ill-disposed; (may he not err), Agni, throughwickedness.

पितुर्न पुत्रः सुभृतो दुरोण आ देवाँ एतु प्र णो हविः ॥

piturna putraḥ subhṛto duroṇa ā devā~ etu pra ṇo haviḥ ||

Cherished by us as a son by a father, let him (Agni) in our dwelling convey promptly our oblation to thegods.

तवाहमग्न ऊतिभिर्नेदिष्ठाभिः सचेय जोषमा वसो । सदा देवस्य मर्त्यः ॥

tavāhamagna ūtibhirnediṣṭhābhiḥ saceya joṣamā vaso | sadā devasya martyaḥ ||

Agni, granter of dwellings, may I, who am mortal, ever enjoy plural asure through your proximateprotections.

तव क्रत्वा सनेयं तव रातिभिरग्ने तव प्रशस्तिभिः । त्वामिदाहुः प्रमतिं वसो ममाग्ने हर्षस्व दातवे ॥

tava kratvā saneyaṃ tava rātibhiragne tava praśastibhiḥ | tvāmidāhuḥ pramatiṃ vaso mamāgne harṣasva dātave ||

May I propitiate you, Agni, by worshipping you, by the gifts presented to you, by your praises; verily,Vasu, they have called you the benevolent- minded; delight, Agni, to give me wealth.

प्र सो अग्ने तवोतिभिः सुवीराभिस्तिरते वाजभर्मभिः । यस्य त्वं सख्यमावरः ॥

pra so agne tavotibhiḥ suvīrābhistirate vājabharmabhiḥ | yasya tvaṃ sakhyamāvaraḥ ||

He, Agni, whose friendship you accept, prospers through your favours, granting male progeny andample food.

तव द्रप्सो नीलवान्वाश ऋत्विय इन्धानः सिष्णवा ददे । त्वं महीनामुषसामसि प्रियः क्षपो वस्तुषु राजसि ॥

tava drapso nīlavānvāśa ṛtviya indhānaḥ siṣṇavā dade | tvaṃ mahīnāmuṣasāmasi priyaḥ kṣapo vastuṣu rājasi ||

Sprinkled, (Agni, with the libation), the dripping (Soma), car-borne, agreeable, offered in due season,resplendent, have been presented to you; you are the beloved of the mighty dawns; you reign over the things ofnight.

तमागन्म सोभरयः सहस्रमुष्कं स्वभिष्टिमवसे । सम्राजं त्रासदस्यवम् ॥

tamāganma sobharayaḥ sahasramuṣkaṃ svabhiṣṭimavase | samrājaṃ trāsadasyavam ||

We, the Sobharis, have come to the thousand-rayed, the sincerely- worshipped, the universalsovereign, the ally of Trasadasyu, for his protection.

यस्य ते अग्ने अन्ये अग्नय उपक्षितो वया इव । विपो न द्युम्ना नि युवे जनानां तव क्षत्राणि वर्धयन् ॥

yasya te agne anye agnaya upakṣito vayā iva | vipo na dyumnā ni yuve janānāṃ tava kṣatrāṇi vardhayan ||

Agni, on whom your other fires are dependent, like branches (on the stem of the tree), may I amongmen, magnifying your powers, become possessed, like (other) votaries, of (abundant) food.

यमादित्यासो अद्रुहः पारं नयथ मर्त्यम् । मघोनां विश्वेषां सुदानवः ॥

yamādityāso adruhaḥ pāraṃ nayatha martyam | maghonāṃ viśveṣāṃ sudānavaḥ ||

Benevolent and genitive rous Ādityas, amid all the offerers of oblations, the man whom you conduct to thelimit (of his undertakings obtains his reward).

यूयं राजानः कं चिच्चर्षणीसहः क्षयन्तं मानुषाँ अनु । वयं ते वो वरुण मित्रार्यमन्त्स्यामेदृतस्य रथ्यः ॥

yūyaṃ rājānaḥ kaṃ ciccarṣaṇīsahaḥ kṣayantaṃ mānuṣā~ anu | vayaṃ te vo varuṇa mitrāryamantsyāmedṛtasya rathyaḥ ||

Royal (Ādityas), overcomers of (hostile) men, (you subdue) any one harassing those (who areengaged in sacred rites) and may we, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman, be the conveyers of the sacrifice(addressed) to you.

अदान्मे पौरुकुत्स्यः पञ्चाशतं त्रसदस्युर्वधूनाम् । मंहिष्ठो अर्यः सत्पतिः ॥

adānme paurukutsyaḥ pañcāśataṃ trasadasyurvadhūnām | maṃhiṣṭho aryaḥ satpatiḥ ||

The magnificent lord, the protector of the virtuous, Trasadasyu, the son of Purukutsa, has given me fivehundred brides.

उत मे प्रयियोर्वयियोः सुवास्त्वा अधि तुग्वनि । तिसॄणां सप्ततीनां श्यावः प्रणेता भुवद्वसुर्दियानां पतिः ॥

uta me prayiyorvayiyoḥ suvāstvā adhi tugvani | tisṝṇāṃ saptatīnāṃ śyāvaḥ praṇetā bhuvadvasurdiyānāṃ patiḥ ||

The affluent Śyāva, the lord of kine, has given to me upon the banks of Suvastu a present of seventythree (cows).
