[rv-8-103] • 14 श्लोकाः

अदर्शि गातुवित्तमो यस्मिन्व्रतान्यादधुः । उपो षु जातमार्यस्य वर्धनमग्निं नक्षन्त नो गिरः ॥

adarśi gātuvittamo yasminvratānyādadhuḥ | upo ṣu jātamāryasya vardhanamagniṃ nakṣanta no giraḥ ||

He, in whom they offer the sacrifices, has appeared-- he who knows all ways; our praises rise to Agni,auspiciously born, the helpeer of the Ārya.

प्र दैवोदासो अग्निर्देवाँ अच्छा न मज्मना । अनु मातरं पृथिवीं वि वावृते तस्थौ नाकस्य सानवि ॥

pra daivodāso agnirdevā~ acchā na majmanā | anu mātaraṃ pṛthivīṃ vi vāvṛte tasthau nākasya sānavi ||

Agni, when invoked by Divodāsa, ran along the mother Earth as with might, towards the gods; he tookhis plural ce in the height of heaven.

यस्माद्रेजन्त कृष्टयश्चर्कृत्यानि कृण्वतः । सहस्रसां मेधसाताविव त्मनाग्निं धीभिः सपर्यत ॥

yasmādrejanta kṛṣṭayaścarkṛtyāni kṛṇvataḥ | sahasrasāṃ medhasātāviva tmanāgniṃ dhībhiḥ saparyata ||

Since men tremble before those who perform the sacred sacrifices, therefore, do you devoutly worshipin the solemn rite Agni the bestower of thousands of kine.

प्र यं राये निनीषसि मर्तो यस्ते वसो दाशत् । स वीरं धत्ते अग्न उक्थशंसिनं त्मना सहस्रपोषिणम् ॥

pra yaṃ rāye ninīṣasi marto yaste vaso dāśat | sa vīraṃ dhatte agna ukthaśaṃsinaṃ tmanā sahasrapoṣiṇam ||

Agni, bestower of dwellings, that mortal whom you wish to lead to wealth, and who gives offerings toyou possess of himself a strong son, a reciter of hymns and a lord of great wealth.

स दृऴ्हे चिदभि तृणत्ति वाजमर्वता स धत्ते अक्षिति श्रवः । त्वे देवत्रा सदा पुरूवसो विश्वा वामानि धीमहि ॥

sa dṛḻhe cidabhi tṛṇatti vājamarvatā sa dhatte akṣiti śravaḥ | tve devatrā sadā purūvaso viśvā vāmāni dhīmahi ||

Lord of vast wealth, he (your worshipper) spoils with his steed food laid up even in strongholds, hepossesses imperishable wealth; in you divine we ever possess all desirable treasures.

यो विश्वा दयते वसु होता मन्द्रो जनानाम् । मधोर्न पात्रा प्रथमान्यस्मै प्र स्तोमा यन्त्यग्नये ॥

yo viśvā dayate vasu hotā mandro janānām | madhorna pātrā prathamānyasmai pra stomā yantyagnaye ||

To him the invoker of the gods, who ever rejoicing distributes all wealth to men-- to Agni proceed ourpraises like the principal cups of the exhilarating Soma.

अश्वं न गीर्भी रथ्यं सुदानवो मर्मृज्यन्ते देवयवः । उभे तोके तनये दस्म विश्पते पर्षि राधो मघोनाम् ॥

aśvaṃ na gīrbhī rathyaṃ sudānavo marmṛjyante devayavaḥ | ubhe toke tanaye dasma viśpate parṣi rādho maghonām ||

The liberal worshippers with their hymns honour you harnessed to the car like a horse; graceful lord ofmen, grant wealth to us rich in children and grandchildren.

प्र मंहिष्ठाय गायत ऋताव्ने बृहते शुक्रशोचिषे । उपस्तुतासो अग्नये ॥

pra maṃhiṣṭhāya gāyata ṛtāvne bṛhate śukraśociṣe | upastutāso agnaye ||

Singers of hymns, sing aloud to the mighty Agni, most bounteous, observant of truth an dradiant withbrightness.

आ वंसते मघवा वीरवद्यशः समिद्धो द्युम्न्याहुतः । कुविन्नो अस्य सुमतिर्नवीयस्यच्छा वाजेभिरागमत् ॥

ā vaṃsate maghavā vīravadyaśaḥ samiddho dyumnyāhutaḥ | kuvinno asya sumatirnavīyasyacchā vājebhirāgamat ||

The wealthy and glorious (Agni), when invoked and kindled, pours forth on his votaries abundance offood with children; may his ever fresh favour continually come to us with all kinds of food.

प्रेष्ठमु प्रियाणां स्तुह्यासावातिथिम् । अग्निं रथानां यमम् ॥

preṣṭhamu priyāṇāṃ stuhyāsāvātithim | agniṃ rathānāṃ yamam ||

Praise, singer of hymns, the guest, Agni, the dearest of the dear, the driver of chariots.

उदिता यो निदिता वेदिता वस्वा यज्ञियो ववर्तति । दुष्टरा यस्य प्रवणे नोर्मयो धिया वाजं सिषासतः ॥

uditā yo niditā veditā vasvā yajñiyo vavartati | duṣṭarā yasya pravaṇe normayo dhiyā vājaṃ siṣāsataḥ ||

(Praise him) the knower, worthy of the sacrifice, who brings to us treasures which have come up (fromthe depths) and are far-renowned-- whose (flames), as he hastend to wage the battle by means of our sacred riteand hard to be passed through as waves rushing down a declivity.

मा नो हृणीतामतिथिर्वसुरग्निः पुरुप्रशस्त एषः । यः सुहोता स्वध्वरः ॥

mā no hṛṇītāmatithirvasuragniḥ purupraśasta eṣaḥ | yaḥ suhotā svadhvaraḥ ||

May none hinder Agni from coming to us, our guest, the giver of dwellings, praised by many-- (Agni)who is the excellent invoker of the gods, who offers an excellent sacrifice.

मो ते रिषन्ये अच्छोक्तिभिर्वसोऽग्ने केभिश्चिदेवैः । कीरिश्चिद्धि त्वामीट्टे दूत्याय रातहव्यः स्वध्वरः ॥

mo te riṣanye acchoktibhirvaso'gne kebhiścidevaiḥ | kīriściddhi tvāmīṭṭe dūtyāya rātahavyaḥ svadhvaraḥ ||

Agni, giver of dwellings, let not those come to harm, who approach you in whatever manner with hymnsof praise; the worshipper who offers his libation and duly performs the rite praises you that you may be thebearer of the sacrifice.

आग्ने याहि मरुत्सखा रुद्रेभिः सोमपीतये । सोभर्या उप सुष्टुतिं मादयस्व स्वर्णरे ॥

āgne yāhi marutsakhā rudrebhiḥ somapītaye | sobharyā upa suṣṭutiṃ mādayasva svarṇare ||

Agni, who have the Maruts as your friends, come with the Rudras to drinkt he Soma; come to thepraises of Sobhari; delight yourself at our solemn rite.
