[rv-6-44] • 24 श्लोकाः

यो रयिवो रयिंतमो यो द्युम्नैर्द्युम्नवत्तमः । सोमः सुतः स इन्द्र तेऽस्ति स्वधापते मदः ॥

yo rayivo rayiṃtamo yo dyumnairdyumnavattamaḥ | somaḥ sutaḥ sa indra te'sti svadhāpate madaḥ ||

Opulent Indra, the Soma that abounds with riches, and is most resplendent with glories, is poured out; it is your exhilaration, Indra, lord of the offering.

यः शग्मस्तुविशग्म ते रायो दामा मतीनाम् । सोमः सुतः स इन्द्र तेऽस्ति स्वधापते मदः ॥

yaḥ śagmastuviśagma te rāyo dāmā matīnām | somaḥ sutaḥ sa indra te'sti svadhāpate madaḥ ||

The Soma, possessor of felicity, which gives you delight, and which is the bestower of riches on your votaries, is poured out; it is your exhilaration, Indra, lord of the offering.

येन वृद्धो न शवसा तुरो न स्वाभिरूतिभिः । सोमः सुतः स इन्द्र तेऽस्ति स्वधापते मदः ॥

yena vṛddho na śavasā turo na svābhirūtibhiḥ | somaḥ sutaḥ sa indra te'sti svadhāpate madaḥ ||

The Soma, whereby you are augmented in strength, and, together with your defenders, (the Maruts), are victorious (over your foes), is poured out; it is your exhilaration, Indra, lord of the offering.

त्यमु वो अप्रहणं गृणीषे शवसस्पतिम् । इन्द्रं विश्वासाहं नरं मंहिष्ठं विश्वचर्षणिम् ॥

tyamu vo aprahaṇaṃ gṛṇīṣe śavasaspatim | indraṃ viśvāsāhaṃ naraṃ maṃhiṣṭhaṃ viśvacarṣaṇim ||

(Worshippers), for you I glorify that Indra who disappointed not (his adorers); the lord of strength, the all-subduing, the leader (of rites), the most beautiful, the beholder of the universe.

यं वर्धयन्तीद्गिरः पतिं तुरस्य राधसः । तमिन्न्वस्य रोदसी देवी शुष्मं सपर्यतः ॥

yaṃ vardhayantīdgiraḥ patiṃ turasya rādhasaḥ | taminnvasya rodasī devī śuṣmaṃ saparyataḥ ||

The divine heaven and earth adore that vigour of his, which our hymns augment, the appropriator of the riches of the foe.

तद्व उक्थस्य बर्हणेन्द्रायोपस्तृणीषणि । विपो न यस्योतयो वि यद्रोहन्ति सक्षितः ॥

tadva ukthasya barhaṇendrāyopastṛṇīṣaṇi | vipo na yasyotayo vi yadrohanti sakṣitaḥ ||

(Worshippers), the efficacy of your eulogy is to be manifested to that Indra, whose protections, like (those) of a sensible man, are displayed as abiding along with him.

अविदद्दक्षं मित्रो नवीयान्पपानो देवेभ्यो वस्यो अचैत् । ससवान्त्स्तौलाभिर्धौतरीभिरुरुष्या पायुरभवत्सखिभ्यः ॥

avidaddakṣaṃ mitro navīyānpapāno devebhyo vasyo acait | sasavāntstaulābhirdhautarībhiruruṣyā pāyurabhavatsakhibhyaḥ ||

Indra, appreciates him who is skilled (in holy rites); a recent friend, quaffing (the libation), he heaps excellent (wealth) upon the devout; partaking of (the sacrificial) food, (and brought) by his robust agitators (of the earth, his steeds), he, through his benevolence, is a protector to his friends.

ऋतस्य पथि वेधा अपायि श्रिये मनांसि देवासो अक्रन् । दधानो नाम महो वचोभिर्वपुर्दृशये वेन्यो व्यावः ॥

ṛtasya pathi vedhā apāyi śriye manāṃsi devāso akran | dadhāno nāma maho vacobhirvapurdṛśaye venyo vyāvaḥ ||

The Soma, creator (of all), on the path of sacrifice, has been drunk; the worshippers have presented it to gratify the mind (of Indra); may he, the humiliator (of his foes), possessing a vast body, propitiated by our praises, become manifest to our view.

द्युमत्तमं दक्षं धेह्यस्मे सेधा जनानां पूर्वीररातीः । वर्षीयो वयः कृणुहि शचीभिर्धनस्य सातावस्माँ अविड्ढि ॥

dyumattamaṃ dakṣaṃ dhehyasme sedhā janānāṃ pūrvīrarātīḥ | varṣīyo vayaḥ kṛṇuhi śacībhirdhanasya sātāvasmā~ aviḍḍhi ||

Bestow upon us most brilliant vigour; oppose the numerous enemies of your worshippers; gran us, for our pious acts, abundant food; secure us in the enjoyment of wealth.

इन्द्र तुभ्यमिन्मघवन्नभूम वयं दात्रे हरिवो मा वि वेनः । नकिरापिर्ददृशे मर्त्यत्रा किमङ्ग रध्रचोदनं त्वाहुः ॥

indra tubhyaminmaghavannabhūma vayaṃ dātre harivo mā vi venaḥ | nakirāpirdadṛśe martyatrā kimaṅga radhracodanaṃ tvāhuḥ ||

Indra, possessor of affluence, we have recourse to you, the bountiful, lord of steeds, be not unfavourable to us; no other kinsman is beheld (by us) among men; who else have they called yo the bestower of wealth?

मा जस्वने वृषभ नो ररीथा मा ते रेवतः सख्ये रिषाम । पूर्वीष्ट इन्द्र निष्षिधो जनेषु जह्यसुष्वीन्प्र वृहापृणतः ॥

mā jasvane vṛṣabha no rarīthā mā te revataḥ sakhye riṣāma | pūrvīṣṭa indra niṣṣidho janeṣu jahyasuṣvīnpra vṛhāpṛṇataḥ ||

Give us not up, showerer (of benefits), to the obstructor (of our rites); relying upon the friendship of you, lord of riches, may we be unharmed; many are the hindrances (opposed) to you among men; slay those who make no libations, root out those who present no offerings.

उदभ्राणीव स्तनयन्नियर्तीन्द्रो राधांस्यश्व्यानि गव्या । त्वमसि प्रदिवः कारुधाया मा त्वादामान आ दभन्मघोनः ॥

udabhrāṇīva stanayanniyartīndro rādhāṃsyaśvyāni gavyā | tvamasi pradivaḥ kārudhāyā mā tvādāmāna ā dabhanmaghonaḥ ||

As Indra, when thundering rases the clouds, so he (heaps upon his worshippers) riches of horses and cattle; yo, Indra, are he ancient upholder of the sacrificer; let not the opulent wrong you, not presenting (oblations).

अध्वर्यो वीर प्र महे सुतानामिन्द्राय भर स ह्यस्य राजा । यः पूर्व्याभिरुत नूतनाभिर्गीर्भिर्वावृधे गृणतामृषीणाम् ॥

adhvaryo vīra pra mahe sutānāmindrāya bhara sa hyasya rājā | yaḥ pūrvyābhiruta nūtanābhirgīrbhirvāvṛdhe gṛṇatāmṛṣīṇām ||

Ministrant priests offer libations to the mighty Indra, for he is their king, he who has been exalted by the ancient and recent hymns of adoring sages.

अस्य मदे पुरु वर्पांसि विद्वानिन्द्रो वृत्राण्यप्रती जघान । तमु प्र होषि मधुमन्तमस्मै सोमं वीराय शिप्रिणे पिबध्यै ॥

asya made puru varpāṃsi vidvānindro vṛtrāṇyapratī jaghāna | tamu pra hoṣi madhumantamasmai somaṃ vīrāya śipriṇe pibadhyai ||

In the exhilaration of this Soma, the wise Indra, irresistible, has destroyed numerous opposing enemies; offer the sweet-flavoured beverage to that hero, the handsome-chinned, to drink.

पाता सुतमिन्द्रो अस्तु सोमं हन्ता वृत्रं वज्रेण मन्दसानः । गन्ता यज्ञं परावतश्चिदच्छा वसुर्धीनामविता कारुधायाः ॥

pātā sutamindro astu somaṃ hantā vṛtraṃ vajreṇa mandasānaḥ | gantā yajñaṃ parāvataścidacchā vasurdhīnāmavitā kārudhāyāḥ ||

May Indra be the drinker of this effused Soma, and, exhilarated by it, become the destroyer of Vṛtra by the thunderbolt; may he come, although from afar, to our sacrifice, (he who is) the giver of dwellings, the upholder of the celebrator (of religious).

इदं त्यत्पात्रमिन्द्रपानमिन्द्रस्य प्रियममृतमपायि । मत्सद्यथा सौमनसाय देवं व्यस्मद्द्वेषो युयवद्व्यंहः ॥

idaṃ tyatpātramindrapānamindrasya priyamamṛtamapāyi | matsadyathā saumanasāya devaṃ vyasmaddveṣo yuyavadvyaṃhaḥ ||

May this ambrosia, the appropriate beverage of Indra, of which is fond, be quaffed (by him), so that it may inspire the divinity with favourable feelings (towards us), and that he may remove from us our adversaries, and (all) iniquity.

एना मन्दानो जहि शूर शत्रूञ्जामिमजामिं मघवन्नमित्रान् । अभिषेणाँ अभ्यादेदिशानान्पराच इन्द्र प्र मृणा जही च ॥

enā mandāno jahi śūra śatrūñjāmimajāmiṃ maghavannamitrān | abhiṣeṇā~ abhyādediśānānparāca indra pra mṛṇā jahī ca ||

Exhilarated by it, valiant Maghavan, slay our unfriendly adversaries, whether kinsman or unrelated (to us); put to flight, Indra, hostile armies menacing us (with their weapons), and slay them.

आसु ष्मा णो मघवन्निन्द्र पृत्स्वस्मभ्यं महि वरिवः सुगं कः । अपां तोकस्य तनयस्य जेष इन्द्र सूरीन्कृणुहि स्मा नो अर्धम् ॥

āsu ṣmā ṇo maghavannindra pṛtsvasmabhyaṃ mahi varivaḥ sugaṃ kaḥ | apāṃ tokasya tanayasya jeṣa indra sūrīnkṛṇuhi smā no ardham ||

Affluent Indra, facilitate to us (the acquisition of) vast riches in these our battles; (enable us) to gain the victory; make us prosperous with rain, and with sons and grandsons.

आ त्वा हरयो वृषणो युजाना वृषरथासो वृषरश्मयोऽत्याः । अस्मत्राञ्चो वृषणो वज्रवाहो वृष्णे मदाय सुयुजो वहन्तु ॥

ā tvā harayo vṛṣaṇo yujānā vṛṣarathāso vṛṣaraśmayo'tyāḥ | asmatrāñco vṛṣaṇo vajravāho vṛṣṇe madāya suyujo vahantu ||

Let your vigorous steeds, harnessed of their own will, drawing your wish-bestowing chariot, guided by shower-yielding reins, quick-moving, hastening towards us, youthful, thunder-bearing, well-yoked, bring you to the hountiful, exhilarating (libation).

आ ते वृषन्वृषणो द्रोणमस्थुर्घृतप्रुषो नोर्मयो मदन्तः । इन्द्र प्र तुभ्यं वृषभिः सुतानां वृष्णे भरन्ति वृषभाय सोमम् ॥

ā te vṛṣanvṛṣaṇo droṇamasthurghṛtapruṣo normayo madantaḥ | indra pra tubhyaṃ vṛṣabhiḥ sutānāṃ vṛṣṇe bharanti vṛṣabhāya somam ||

Showerer (of benefits), your vigorous water-shedding steeds, like the waves (of the sea), exulting, are harnessed to your car; for they, (the priests), offer to you, the showerer (of benefits), ever youthful, the libation of the Soma expressed by the stones.

वृषासि दिवो वृषभः पृथिव्या वृषा सिन्धूनां वृषभः स्तियानाम् । वृष्णे त इन्दुर्वृषभ पीपाय स्वादू रसो मधुपेयो वराय ॥

vṛṣāsi divo vṛṣabhaḥ pṛthivyā vṛṣā sindhūnāṃ vṛṣabhaḥ stiyānām | vṛṣṇe ta indurvṛṣabha pīpāya svādū raso madhupeyo varāya ||

You, Indra, are the showerer of heaven, the bearer of earth, the feeder of the rivers, the supplier of the aggregated (waters); for you, showerer (of benefits), who are the most excellent shedder of rain, the sweet Soma, the honey-flavoured, is ready to be quaffed.

अयं देवः सहसा जायमान इन्द्रेण युजा पणिमस्तभायत् । अयं स्वस्य पितुरायुधानीन्दुरमुष्णादशिवस्य मायाः ॥

ayaṃ devaḥ sahasā jāyamāna indreṇa yujā paṇimastabhāyat | ayaṃ svasya piturāyudhānīnduramuṣṇādaśivasya māyāḥ ||

This divine Soma, with Indra for its ally, crushed, as soon as genitive rated, Paṇi by force; this Soma baffled the devices and the weapons of the malignant secreter of (the stolen) wealth, (the cattle).

अयमकृणोदुषसः सुपत्नीरयं सूर्ये अदधाज्ज्योतिरन्तः । अयं त्रिधातु दिवि रोचनेषु त्रितेषु विन्ददमृतं निगूऴ्हम् ॥

ayamakṛṇoduṣasaḥ supatnīrayaṃ sūrye adadhājjyotirantaḥ | ayaṃ tridhātu divi rocaneṣu triteṣu vindadamṛtaṃ nigūḻham ||

This Soma made the dawns happily wedded to the sun; this Soma plural ced the light within the solar orb; this (Soma) has found the threefold ambrosia hidden in heaven in the three bright regions.

अयं द्यावापृथिवी वि ष्कभायदयं रथमयुनक्सप्तरश्मिम् । अयं गोषु शच्या पक्वमन्तः सोमो दाधार दशयन्त्रमुत्सम् ॥

ayaṃ dyāvāpṛthivī vi ṣkabhāyadayaṃ rathamayunaksaptaraśmim | ayaṃ goṣu śacyā pakvamantaḥ somo dādhāra daśayantramutsam ||

This (Soma) has been fixed heaven and earth; this has harnessed the seven-rayed chariot (of the sun); this Soma has developed of its own will the mature deeply-organized secretion in the kind.
