[rv-6-45] • 33 श्लोकाः

य आनयत्परावतः सुनीती तुर्वशं यदुम् । इन्द्रः स नो युवा सखा ॥

ya ānayatparāvataḥ sunītī turvaśaṃ yadum | indraḥ sa no yuvā sakhā ||

May that youthful Indra, who, by good guidance, brought Turvaśa and Yadu from afar, (be) our friend.

अविप्रे चिद्वयो दधदनाशुना चिदर्वता । इन्द्रो जेता हितं धनम् ॥

avipre cidvayo dadhadanāśunā cidarvatā | indro jetā hitaṃ dhanam ||

Indra gives sustenance, even to the undevout he is the conqueror of wealh accusative ulated (by enemies) though (going against) them with a slow-paced steed.

महीरस्य प्रणीतयः पूर्वीरुत प्रशस्तयः । नास्य क्षीयन्त ऊतयः ॥

mahīrasya praṇītayaḥ pūrvīruta praśastayaḥ | nāsya kṣīyanta ūtayaḥ ||

Vast are his designs, manifold are his praises, his protections are never withdrawn.

सखायो ब्रह्मवाहसेऽर्चत प्र च गायत । स हि नः प्रमतिर्मही ॥

sakhāyo brahmavāhase'rcata pra ca gāyata | sa hi naḥ pramatirmahī ||

Offer worship and praises, friends, to him who is to be attracted by prayers; for he verily is our great intelligence.

त्वमेकस्य वृत्रहन्नविता द्वयोरसि । उतेदृशे यथा वयम् ॥

tvamekasya vṛtrahannavitā dvayorasi | utedṛśe yathā vayam ||

Slayer of Vṛtra, you are the protector of one (adorer), or of two, and of such as we are.

नयसीद्वति द्विषः कृणोष्युक्थशंसिनः । नृभिः सुवीर उच्यसे ॥

nayasīdvati dviṣaḥ kṛṇoṣyukthaśaṃsinaḥ | nṛbhiḥ suvīra ucyase ||

You remove (far from us) those who hate us; you prosper hose who repeat your praise; bestower of excellent male descendants, you are glorified by man

ब्रह्माणं ब्रह्मवाहसं गीर्भिः सखायमृग्मियम् । गां न दोहसे हुवे ॥

brahmāṇaṃ brahmavāhasaṃ gīrbhiḥ sakhāyamṛgmiyam | gāṃ na dohase huve ||

I invoke with hymns Indra, our friends, who is Brahma, who is attracted by prayer and entitled to adoration, to milk him as a cow.

यस्य विश्वानि हस्तयोरूचुर्वसूनि नि द्विता । वीरस्य पृतनाषहः ॥

yasya viśvāni hastayorūcurvasūni ni dvitā | vīrasya pṛtanāṣahaḥ ||

In the hands of whom, the eroic subduer of hostile armies, (the sages) have declared, are all the treasures in both (heaven and earth).

वि दृऴ्हानि चिदद्रिवो जनानां शचीपते । वृह माया अनानत ॥

vi dṛḻhāni cidadrivo janānāṃ śacīpate | vṛha māyā anānata ||

Wielder of the thunderbolt, lord of Śaci, demolish the strong (cities) of men; (battle), unbending (Indra) their devices.

तमु त्वा सत्य सोमपा इन्द्र वाजानां पते । अहूमहि श्रवस्यवः ॥

tamu tvā satya somapā indra vājānāṃ pate | ahūmahi śravasyavaḥ ||

Veracious Indra, drinker of the Soma, provider of sustenance, we, desirous of food, invoke such as you are.

तमु त्वा यः पुरासिथ यो वा नूनं हिते धने । हव्यः स श्रुधी हवम् ॥

tamu tvā yaḥ purāsitha yo vā nūnaṃ hite dhane | havyaḥ sa śrudhī havam ||

(We invoke) you, such as you are, you who have been invocable of old, and who are now to be invoked for the wealth held (by the foe); hear our invocation.

धीभिरर्वद्भिरर्वतो वाजाँ इन्द्र श्रवाय्यान् । त्वया जेष्म हितं धनम् ॥

dhībhirarvadbhirarvato vājā~ indra śravāyyān | tvayā jeṣma hitaṃ dhanam ||

(Favoured) by you, Indra, (who are propitiated), by our hymns, (we ovecome) with our steeds the steeds (of the enemy), and we conquer abundant food, and the wealth held (by the foes).

अभूरु वीर गिर्वणो महाँ इन्द्र धने हिते । भरे वितन्तसाय्यः ॥

abhūru vīra girvaṇo mahā~ indra dhane hite | bhare vitantasāyyaḥ ||

Heroic and adorable Indra, verily you are mighty in battle, and victor of the wealth held (by the enemy).

या त ऊतिरमित्रहन्मक्षूजवस्तमासति । तया नो हिनुही रथम् ॥

yā ta ūtiramitrahanmakṣūjavastamāsati | tayā no hinuhī ratham ||

Destroyer of enemies with that your velocity, which is of exceeding swiftness, impel our chariots (against the foe).

स रथेन रथीतमोऽस्माकेनाभियुग्वना । जेषि जिष्णो हितं धनम् ॥

sa rathena rathītamo'smākenābhiyugvanā | jeṣi jiṣṇo hitaṃ dhanam ||

Victorious Indra, who are the chief off charioteers, conquer the wealth that is held (by the enemy) with our assailing car.

य एक इत्तमु ष्टुहि कृष्टीनां विचर्षणिः । पतिर्जज्ञे वृषक्रतुः ॥

ya eka ittamu ṣṭuhi kṛṣṭīnāṃ vicarṣaṇiḥ | patirjajñe vṛṣakratuḥ ||

Praise that Indra who alone has been born the supervisor (of all), the lord of men, the giver of rain.

यो गृणतामिदासिथापिरूती शिवः सखा । स त्वं न इन्द्र मृऴय ॥

yo gṛṇatāmidāsithāpirūtī śivaḥ sakhā | sa tvaṃ na indra mṛḻaya ||

Indra, who has ever been the friend of those who praise you, and the insurer of their happiness by your protection, grant us felicity.

धिष्व वज्रं गभस्त्यो रक्षोहत्याय वज्रिवः । सासहीष्ठा अभि स्पृधः ॥

dhiṣva vajraṃ gabhastyo rakṣohatyāya vajrivaḥ | sāsahīṣṭhā abhi spṛdhaḥ ||

Wielder of the thunderbolt, take the bolt in your hands for the destruction of rākṣasas, and uttely overthrow those who defy you.

प्रत्नं रयीणां युजं सखायं कीरिचोदनम् । ब्रह्मवाहस्तमं हुवे ॥

pratnaṃ rayīṇāṃ yujaṃ sakhāyaṃ kīricodanam | brahmavāhastamaṃ huve ||

I invoke the ancient Indra, the giver of iches, (our) friend, the encourager of his adorers, who is to be propitiated by prayer.

स हि विश्वानि पार्थिवाँ एको वसूनि पत्यते । गिर्वणस्तमो अध्रिगुः ॥

sa hi viśvāni pārthivā~ eko vasūni patyate | girvaṇastamo adhriguḥ ||

He alone rules over all terrestrial riches, he who is entitled to especial praise, he who is irresistible.

स नो नियुद्भिरा पृण कामं वाजेभिरश्विभिः । गोमद्भिर्गोपते धृषत् ॥

sa no niyudbhirā pṛṇa kāmaṃ vājebhiraśvibhiḥ | gomadbhirgopate dhṛṣat ||

Lord of cattle, (coming) with your mares, saisfy our desires completely with (abundant) food, with horses, and with kine.

तद्वो गाय सुते सचा पुरुहूताय सत्वने । शं यद्गवे न शाकिने ॥

tadvo gāya sute sacā puruhūtāya satvane | śaṃ yadgave na śākine ||

Sing praises, when your libation is poured out, to him who is the invoked of many, the subduer (of foes), giving him gratification, like (fresh pasture) to cattle.

न घा वसुर्नि यमते दानं वाजस्य गोमतः । यत्सीमुप श्रवद्गिरः ॥

na ghā vasurni yamate dānaṃ vājasya gomataḥ | yatsīmupa śravadgiraḥ ||

The giver of dwellings verily withholds not the gift of food conjoined with cattle, when he hears our praises.

कुवित्सस्य प्र हि व्रजं गोमन्तं दस्युहा गमत् । शचीभिरप नो वरत् ॥

kuvitsasya pra hi vrajaṃ gomantaṃ dasyuhā gamat | śacībhirapa no varat ||

Then the desroyer of the Dasyus, proceeds to the cattl-crowded folds of Kuvitsa, and by his acts opens them for us.

इमा उ त्वा शतक्रतोऽभि प्र णोनुवुर्गिरः । इन्द्र वत्सं न मातरः ॥

imā u tvā śatakrato'bhi pra ṇonuvurgiraḥ | indra vatsaṃ na mātaraḥ ||

Indra, performer of many exploits, these our praises repeatedly recur to you as parent (cows) to their young.

दूणाशं सख्यं तव गौरसि वीर गव्यते । अश्वो अश्वायते भव ॥

dūṇāśaṃ sakhyaṃ tava gaurasi vīra gavyate | aśvo aśvāyate bhava ||

Your friendship, Indra, is not easily lost; you, hero are (the giver of) cattle to him who desires cattle (of) horses him who desires horses.

स मन्दस्वा ह्यन्धसो राधसे तन्वा महे । न स्तोतारं निदे करः ॥

sa mandasvā hyandhaso rādhase tanvā mahe | na stotāraṃ nide karaḥ ||

Delight your person n with the libation (offered) for the sake of treasure; subject not your worshipper to his reviler.

इमा उ त्वा सुतेसुते नक्षन्ते गिर्वणो गिरः । वत्सं गावो न धेनवः ॥

imā u tvā sutesute nakṣante girvaṇo giraḥ | vatsaṃ gāvo na dhenavaḥ ||

These our praises tend, as the libationsa are repeatedly poured out, eagerly to you who are gratified by praise, as the milch kine (hasten) to their calves.

पुरूतमं पुरूणां स्तोतॄणां विवाचि । वाजेभिर्वाजयताम् ॥

purūtamaṃ purūṇāṃ stotṝṇāṃ vivāci | vājebhirvājayatām ||

May the praises of many worshippers offered at the sacrifice, (accompanied) by (sacrificial) viands, invigorate you, destroyer of multitudes.

अस्माकमिन्द्र भूतु ते स्तोमो वाहिष्ठो अन्तमः । अस्मान्राये महे हिनु ॥

asmākamindra bhūtu te stomo vāhiṣṭho antamaḥ | asmānrāye mahe hinu ||

May our most elevating praise be near, Indra, to you, and urge us to (the acquisition of) great riches.

अधि बृबुः पणीनां वर्षिष्ठे मूर्धन्नस्थात् । उरुः कक्षो न गाङ्ग्यः ॥

adhi bṛbuḥ paṇīnāṃ varṣiṣṭhe mūrdhannasthāt | uruḥ kakṣo na gāṅgyaḥ ||

Bṛbu presided over the high plural ces of the Paṇis, like the elevated bank of the Ganges.

यस्य वायोरिव द्रवद्भद्रा रातिः सहस्रिणी । सद्यो दानाय मंहते ॥

yasya vāyoriva dravadbhadrā rātiḥ sahasriṇī | sadyo dānāya maṃhate ||

Of whom, prompt as the wind, the liberal donation of thousands (of cattle) has been quickly given to (me) soliciting a gift.

तत्सु नो विश्वे अर्य आ सदा गृणन्ति कारवः । बृबुं सहस्रदातमं सूरिं सहस्रसातमम् ॥

tatsu no viśve arya ā sadā gṛṇanti kāravaḥ | bṛbuṃ sahasradātamaṃ sūriṃ sahasrasātamam ||

Whom, therefore, we all, who are the profferers and bestowers of praise ever commend, as the pious Bṛbu, the donor of thousands (of cattle), the receiver of thousands (of laudations).
