[rv-6-26] • 8 श्लोकाः

श्रुधी न इन्द्र ह्वयामसि त्वा महो वाजस्य सातौ वावृषाणाः । सं यद्विशोऽयन्त शूरसाता उग्रं नोऽवः पार्ये अहन्दाः ॥

śrudhī na indra hvayāmasi tvā maho vājasya sātau vāvṛṣāṇāḥ | saṃ yadviśo'yanta śūrasātā ugraṃ no'vaḥ pārye ahandāḥ ||

Hear us, Indra, when, offering libations, we call upon you for obtaining abundant food; grant us decided protection when on a future day men are assembling for battle.

त्वां वाजी हवते वाजिनेयो महो वाजस्य गध्यस्य सातौ । त्वां वृत्रेष्विन्द्र सत्पतिं तरुत्रं त्वां चष्टे मुष्टिहा गोषु युध्यन् ॥

tvāṃ vājī havate vājineyo maho vājasya gadhyasya sātau | tvāṃ vṛtreṣvindra satpatiṃ tarutraṃ tvāṃ caṣṭe muṣṭihā goṣu yudhyan ||

The son of Vājini, (Bharadvāja), offering (sacrificial) viands, invokes you for (the sake of) acquiring obtainable and abundant food; (he invokes) you, Indra, the preserver of the good, the defender (from the wicked), when enemies (assail him); he depends upon you when, lifting up his fist, he is fighting for (his) cattle.

त्वं कविं चोदयोऽर्कसातौ त्वं कुत्साय शुष्णं दाशुषे वर्क् । त्वं शिरो अमर्मणः पराहन्नतिथिग्वाय शंस्यं करिष्यन् ॥

tvaṃ kaviṃ codayo'rkasātau tvaṃ kutsāya śuṣṇaṃ dāśuṣe vark | tvaṃ śiro amarmaṇaḥ parāhannatithigvāya śaṃsyaṃ kariṣyan ||

You have animated the sage with (the hope of) obtaining food; you have cut to pieces Śuṣṇa for Kutsa, the donor of the oblation; you have struck off the head (of Śambara), imagining himself invulnerable, intending to give plural asure to Atithigvan.

त्वं रथं प्र भरो योधमृष्वमावो युध्यन्तं वृषभं दशद्युम् । त्वं तुग्रं वेतसवे सचाहन्त्वं तुजिं गृणन्तमिन्द्र तूतोः ॥

tvaṃ rathaṃ pra bharo yodhamṛṣvamāvo yudhyantaṃ vṛṣabhaṃ daśadyum | tvaṃ tugraṃ vetasave sacāhantvaṃ tujiṃ gṛṇantamindra tūtoḥ ||

You have brought to Vṛṣabha a great war-chariot; you have protected him warring for ten days; you have slain Tugra along with Vetasa; you have exalted Tuji glorifying you.

त्वं तदुक्थमिन्द्र बर्हणा कः प्र यच्छता सहस्रा शूर दर्षि । अव गिरेर्दासं शम्बरं हन्प्रावो दिवोदासं चित्राभिरूती ॥

tvaṃ tadukthamindra barhaṇā kaḥ pra yacchatā sahasrā śūra darṣi | ava girerdāsaṃ śambaraṃ hanprāvo divodāsaṃ citrābhirūtī ||

Indra, who are the subduer (of foes), you have achieved a glorious (deed), inasmuch as you have scatered, hero, the hundreds and thousands (of the host of Śambara), have slain the slave Śambara (when issuing) from the mountain, and have protected Divodāsa with marvellous protections.

त्वं श्रद्धाभिर्मन्दसानः सोमैर्दभीतये चुमुरिमिन्द्र सिष्वप् । त्वं रजिं पिठीनसे दशस्यन्षष्टिं सहस्रा शच्या सचाहन् ॥

tvaṃ śraddhābhirmandasānaḥ somairdabhītaye cumurimindra siṣvap | tvaṃ rajiṃ piṭhīnase daśasyanṣaṣṭiṃ sahasrā śacyā sacāhan ||

Delighted by libations offered wiḥ faith, you have consigned Cumuri to the sleeop (of death) on behalf of Dabhīti, and bestowing (the maiden) Raji upon Piṭhīnas, you have, by your contrivance, destroyed sixty thousand (warriors) at once.

अहं चन तत्सूरिभिरानश्यां तव ज्याय इन्द्र सुम्नमोजः । त्वया यत्स्तवन्ते सधवीर वीरास्त्रिवरूथेन नहुषा शविष्ठ ॥

ahaṃ cana tatsūribhirānaśyāṃ tava jyāya indra sumnamojaḥ | tvayā yatstavante sadhavīra vīrāstrivarūthena nahuṣā śaviṣṭha ||

May I, with my fellow-worshippers, obtain that your most excellent felicity and vigour, which, most mighty Indra, associate of heroes, the pious celebrate (as bestowed) by you, who are the humiliator (of foes), the protector of the three (worlds).

वयं ते अस्यामिन्द्र द्युम्नहूतौ सखायः स्याम महिन प्रेष्ठाः । प्रातर्दनिः क्षत्रश्रीरस्तु श्रेष्ठो घने वृत्राणां सनये धनानाम् ॥

vayaṃ te asyāmindra dyumnahūtau sakhāyaḥ syāma mahina preṣṭhāḥ | prātardaniḥ kṣatraśrīrastu śreṣṭho ghane vṛtrāṇāṃ sanaye dhanānām ||

May we, adorable Indra, your friends, at this your worship, offered for (the acquisiiton of) wealth, be held most dear to you; may Kṣatraśrī, the son of Pratardana, (my patron), by most illustrious through the destruction of foes, and the attainment of riches.
