[rv-6-25] • 9 श्लोकाः

या त ऊतिरवमा या परमा या मध्यमेन्द्र शुष्मिन्नस्ति । ताभिरू षु वृत्रहत्येऽवीर्न एभिश्च वाजैर्महान्न उग्र ॥

yā ta ūtiravamā yā paramā yā madhyamendra śuṣminnasti | tābhirū ṣu vṛtrahatye'vīrna ebhiśca vājairmahānna ugra ||

Powerful Indra, with these (your protections), whether the protection be little, great or middlin, defend us for the destruction of our foes; supply us, fierce Indra, who are mighty, with those viands (that are needed).

आभिः स्पृधो मिथतीररिषण्यन्नमित्रस्य व्यथया मन्युमिन्द्र । आभिर्विश्वा अभियुजो विषूचीरार्याय विशोऽव तारीर्दासीः ॥

ābhiḥ spṛdho mithatīrariṣaṇyannamitrasya vyathayā manyumindra | ābhirviśvā abhiyujo viṣūcīrāryāya viśo'va tārīrdāsīḥ ||

(Induced) by these (praises), protecting our assailing host, baffle, Indra, the wrath of the enemy; (induced) by them, overthrow, on the part of the Ārya, all the servile people everywhere abiding.

इन्द्र जामय उत येऽजामयोऽर्वाचीनासो वनुषो युयुज्रे । त्वमेषां विथुरा शवांसि जहि वृष्ण्यानि कृणुही पराचः ॥

indra jāmaya uta ye'jāmayo'rvācīnāso vanuṣo yuyujre | tvameṣāṃ vithurā śavāṃsi jahi vṛṣṇyāni kṛṇuhī parācaḥ ||

Annihilate, Indra, the strength of those who, whether kinsmen or unrelated, present themselves before us, exerting themselves as adversaries; enfeeble their prowess, put them to fight.

शूरो वा शूरं वनते शरीरैस्तनूरुचा तरुषि यत्कृण्वैते । तोके वा गोषु तनये यदप्सु वि क्रन्दसी उर्वरासु ब्रवैते ॥

śūro vā śūraṃ vanate śarīraistanūrucā taruṣi yatkṛṇvaite | toke vā goṣu tanaye yadapsu vi krandasī urvarāsu bravaite ||

The hero, (favoured by you), assuredly slays the (hostile) hero by his bodily prowess, when, both excelling in person nal strength, they strive together in conflict, or when, clamorous, they dispute for (the sake of) sons, of grandson, of cattle, of water, of land.

नहि त्वा शूरो न तुरो न धृष्णुर्न त्वा योधो मन्यमानो युयोध । इन्द्र नकिष्ट्वा प्रत्यस्त्येषां विश्वा जातान्यभ्यसि तानि ॥

nahi tvā śūro na turo na dhṛṣṇurna tvā yodho manyamāno yuyodha | indra nakiṣṭvā pratyastyeṣāṃ viśvā jātānyabhyasi tāni ||

But you (no one) resists, neither the hero, nor the fleet runner, nor the resolute, nor the combatant confiding (in his valour); neither of these, Indra, is a match for you; you are superior to all these person ns.

स पत्यत उभयोर्नृम्णमयोर्यदी वेधसः समिथे हवन्ते । वृत्रे वा महो नृवति क्षये वा व्यचस्वन्ता यदि वितन्तसैते ॥

sa patyata ubhayornṛmṇamayoryadī vedhasaḥ samithe havante | vṛtre vā maho nṛvati kṣaye vā vyacasvantā yadi vitantasaite ||

Of both these (disputants), that one acquires wealth whose priests invoke (Indra) at the sacrifice, whether the conten emulous for (the overthrow of) a powerful enemy, or for a dwelling peopled with dependants.

अध स्मा ते चर्षणयो यदेजानिन्द्र त्रातोत भवा वरूता । अस्माकासो ये नृतमासो अर्य इन्द्र सूरयो दधिरे पुरो नः ॥

adha smā te carṣaṇayo yadejānindra trātota bhavā varūtā | asmākāso ye nṛtamāso arya indra sūrayo dadhire puro naḥ ||

Therefore, Indra, when your people tremble (with fear), protect them; be to them a defender; may those who are our chief leaders be enjoyers (of your favour), as well as those (your) worshippers who have plural ced us foremost (to perform the sacrifice).

अनु ते दायि मह इन्द्रियाय सत्रा ते विश्वमनु वृत्रहत्ये । अनु क्षत्रमनु सहो यजत्रेन्द्र देवेभिरनु ते नृषह्ये ॥

anu te dāyi maha indriyāya satrā te viśvamanu vṛtrahatye | anu kṣatramanu saho yajatrendra devebhiranu te nṛṣahye ||

All (power) has been successively conceded verily to you, Indra, who are mighty, for the destruction of the foe; suitable vigour, suitable strength in battle (has been given) to you, adorable Indra, by the gods.

एवा नः स्पृधः समजा समत्स्विन्द्र रारन्धि मिथतीरदेवीः । विद्याम वस्तोरवसा गृणन्तो भरद्वाजा उत त इन्द्र नूनम् ॥

evā naḥ spṛdhaḥ samajā samatsvindra rārandhi mithatīradevīḥ | vidyāma vastoravasā gṛṇanto bharadvājā uta ta indra nūnam ||

So (glorified by us), Indra, animate us (to overcome) our enemies in battle; overthrow our pious, malevolent (foes), and may we, Bhāradvājas, praising you, assuredly possess habitations, with (abundant) food.
