[rv-6-15] • 19 श्लोकाः

इममू षु वो अतिथिमुषर्बुधं विश्वासां विशां पतिमृञ्जसे गिरा । वेतीद्दिवो जनुषा कच्चिदा शुचिर्ज्योक्चिदत्ति गर्भो यदच्युतम् ॥

imamū ṣu vo atithimuṣarbudhaṃ viśvāsāṃ viśāṃ patimṛñjase girā | vetīddivo januṣā kaccidā śucirjyokcidatti garbho yadacyutam ||

Propitiate by praises this guest who wakes at dawn, the cherisher of all people, who on every occasion descends, pure of origin, from heaven, and, present as the embryo (in the wood of attrition), consumes immediately the offered (oblation).

मित्रं न यं सुधितं भृगवो दधुर्वनस्पतावीड्यमूर्ध्वशोचिषम् । स त्वं सुप्रीतो वीतहव्ये अद्भुत प्रशस्तिभिर्महयसे दिवेदिवे ॥

mitraṃ na yaṃ sudhitaṃ bhṛgavo dadhurvanaspatāvīḍyamūrdhvaśociṣam | sa tvaṃ suprīto vītahavye adbhuta praśastibhirmahayase divedive ||

Wonderful Agni, whom, adorable and upward flaming, the bhṛgus regard as a friend, deposited in the wood of (attrition), be plural ased with vītahavya, since you are glorified by (his) praise everyday.

स त्वं दक्षस्यावृको वृधो भूरर्यः परस्यान्तरस्य तरुषः । रायः सूनो सहसो मर्त्येष्वा छर्दिर्यच्छ वीतहव्याय सप्रथो भरद्वाजाय सप्रथः ॥

sa tvaṃ dakṣasyāvṛko vṛdho bhūraryaḥ parasyāntarasya taruṣaḥ | rāyaḥ sūno sahaso martyeṣvā chardiryaccha vītahavyāya sapratho bharadvājāya saprathaḥ ||

Do you, who are unresisted, become the benefactor of him who is skilled (in sacred rites), his defender against a near of distant enemy; son of strength, who are ever renowned, grant wealth and a dwelling to vītahavya, the offerer of the oblation.

द्युतानं वो अतिथिं स्वर्णरमग्निं होतारं मनुषः स्वध्वरम् । विप्रं न द्युक्षवचसं सुवृक्तिभिर्हव्यवाहमरतिं देवमृञ्जसे ॥

dyutānaṃ vo atithiṃ svarṇaramagniṃ hotāraṃ manuṣaḥ svadhvaram | vipraṃ na dyukṣavacasaṃ suvṛktibhirhavyavāhamaratiṃ devamṛñjase ||

Propitiate with pious praises the radiant Agni, your guest, the guide to heaven, the invoker of the gods( at the sacrifice) of manu, the celebrator of holy rites, the speaker of brilliant words like a learned sage, the bearer of oblations (to the gods), the lord, the divine.

पावकया यश्चितयन्त्या कृपा क्षामन्रुरुच उषसो न भानुना । तूर्वन्न यामन्नेतशस्य नू रण आ यो घृणे न ततृषाणो अजरः ॥

pāvakayā yaścitayantyā kṛpā kṣāmanruruca uṣaso na bhānunā | tūrvanna yāmannetaśasya nū raṇa ā yo ghṛṇe na tatṛṣāṇo ajaraḥ ||

(Propitiate him) who shines upon the earth with purifying and enlightening lustre, as the dawns with ligt; him, who like (a warrior) discomfiting (his foes) quickly blazed forth in the contest in defence of etaśa; him, who is satiated (with food), exempt from decay.

अग्निमग्निं वः समिधा दुवस्यत प्रियम्प्रियं वो अतिथिं गृणीषणि । उप वो गीर्भिरमृतं विवासत देवो देवेषु वनते हि वार्यं देवो देवेषु वनते हि नो दुवः ॥

agnimagniṃ vaḥ samidhā duvasyata priyampriyaṃ vo atithiṃ gṛṇīṣaṇi | upa vo gīrbhiramṛtaṃ vivāsata devo deveṣu vanate hi vāryaṃ devo deveṣu vanate hi no duvaḥ ||

Worship repeatedly the adorable Agni with fuel (him) who is ever your dear friend, your guest; approach the immortal Agni with praises, for he, a god among gods, accepts our homage.

समिद्धमग्निं समिधा गिरा गृणे शुचिं पावकं पुरो अध्वरे ध्रुवम् । विप्रं होतारं पुरुवारमद्रुहं कविं सुम्नैरीमहे जातवेदसम् ॥

samiddhamagniṃ samidhā girā gṛṇe śuciṃ pāvakaṃ puro adhvare dhruvam | vipraṃ hotāraṃ puruvāramadruhaṃ kaviṃ sumnairīmahe jātavedasam ||

I glorify with praise the kindled Agni, pure purifying, permanent, (plural ced) before (us) at the sacrifice; let us celebrate with plural asant (hymns) the wise Agni, the invoker of the gods, the adored of many, the benevolent, the far-seeing, him who knows all that exists.

त्वां दूतमग्ने अमृतं युगेयुगे हव्यवाहं दधिरे पायुमीड्यम् । देवासश्च मर्तासश्च जागृविं विभुं विश्पतिं नमसा नि षेदिरे ॥

tvāṃ dūtamagne amṛtaṃ yugeyuge havyavāhaṃ dadhire pāyumīḍyam | devāsaśca martāsaśca jāgṛviṃ vibhuṃ viśpatiṃ namasā ni ṣedire ||

You, Agni, have gods and men in every age retained as their messenger, immortal bearer of oblations, beneficent, adorable; they have plural ced him with reverence (upon the altar), vigilant, pervading, the protector of mankind.

विभूषन्नग्न उभयाँ अनु व्रता दूतो देवानां रजसी समीयसे । यत्ते धीतिं सुमतिमावृणीमहेऽध स्मा नस्त्रिवरूथः शिवो भव ॥

vibhūṣannagna ubhayā~ anu vratā dūto devānāṃ rajasī samīyase | yatte dhītiṃ sumatimāvṛṇīmahe'dha smā nastrivarūthaḥ śivo bhava ||

Showing grace, Agni, to both (gods and men), and at each sacred rite the messenger of the gods, you traverse earth and heaven; inasmuch as we offer you worship and praise, therefore do you, who are the guardian of the three (regions), be auspicious to us.

तं सुप्रतीकं सुदृशं स्वञ्चमविद्वांसो विदुष्टरं सपेम । स यक्षद्विश्वा वयुनानि विद्वान्प्र हव्यमग्निरमृतेषु वोचत् ॥

taṃ supratīkaṃ sudṛśaṃ svañcamavidvāṃso viduṣṭaraṃ sapema | sa yakṣadviśvā vayunāni vidvānpra havyamagniramṛteṣu vocat ||

We of little wisdom adore the most wise Agni, the well-formed, the well-looking the graceful-moving; may Agni, who knows all things that are to be known offer the sacrifice; may he announce the oblation to the immortals.

तमग्ने पास्युत तं पिपर्षि यस्त आनट् कवये शूर धीतिम् । यज्ञस्य वा निशितिं वोदितिं वा तमित्पृणक्षि शवसोत राया ॥

tamagne pāsyuta taṃ piparṣi yasta ānaṭ kavaye śūra dhītim | yajñasya vā niśitiṃ voditiṃ vā tamitpṛṇakṣi śavasota rāyā ||

You cherish, you protect, Agni, that may who offers worship, hero, to you, the far-seeing; you reward with strength and with riches him (who undertakes) the instrumental tution, (who effects) the accomplishments of the sacrifice.

त्वमग्ने वनुष्यतो नि पाहि त्वमु नः सहसावन्नवद्यात् । सं त्वा ध्वस्मन्वदभ्येतु पाथः सं रयिः स्पृहयाय्यः सहस्री ॥

tvamagne vanuṣyato ni pāhi tvamu naḥ sahasāvannavadyāt | saṃ tvā dhvasmanvadabhyetu pāthaḥ saṃ rayiḥ spṛhayāyyaḥ sahasrī ||

Protect us, Agni, from the malignant, preserve us, mighty one, from wickedness; may the offering come to you free from defects; may desirable riches, by your sands, (reach us).

अग्निर्होता गृहपतिः स राजा विश्वा वेद जनिमा जातवेदाः । देवानामुत यो मर्त्यानां यजिष्ठः स प्र यजतामृतावा ॥

agnirhotā gṛhapatiḥ sa rājā viśvā veda janimā jātavedāḥ | devānāmuta yo martyānāṃ yajiṣṭhaḥ sa pra yajatāmṛtāvā ||

Agni, is the invoker of the gods, the lord of the house, the ruler, who knows all that is, knows all existing beings; he is the mos assiduous worshipper among gods or men; let him who is observant of truth offer worship.

अग्ने यदद्य विशो अध्वरस्य होतः पावकशोचे वेष्ट्वं हि यज्वा । ऋता यजासि महिना वि यद्भूर्हव्या वह यविष्ठ या ते अद्य ॥

agne yadadya viśo adhvarasya hotaḥ pāvakaśoce veṣṭvaṃ hi yajvā | ṛtā yajāsi mahinā vi yadbhūrhavyā vaha yaviṣṭha yā te adya ||

Agni, minister of the sacrifice, bright wiht purifying lustre, approve of that (worship) which is this day celebrated by the instrumental tutor of the rite; you verily are the sacrificer, therefore address the worship (to the gods); and since by your greatness you are all-pervading, therefore, youngest (of the gods), accept the oblations which are today (presented) to you.

अभि प्रयांसि सुधितानि हि ख्यो नि त्वा दधीत रोदसी यजध्यै । अवा नो मघवन्वाजसातावग्ने विश्वानि दुरिता तरेम ता तरेम तवावसा तरेम ॥

abhi prayāṃsi sudhitāni hi khyo ni tvā dadhīta rodasī yajadhyai | avā no maghavanvājasātāvagne viśvāni duritā tarema tā tarema tavāvasā tarema ||

Look, Agni, upon the (sacrificial) viands duly deposited (upon the altar); heaven and earth detain you to sacrifice (to the gods); opulent Agni, protect us in battle, whereby we may pass safe over all evils; may we pass over those of a prior existence; may we pass over them by your protection.

अग्ने विश्वेभिः स्वनीक देवैरूर्णावन्तं प्रथमः सीद योनिम् । कुलायिनं घृतवन्तं सवित्रे यज्ञं नय यजमानाय साधु ॥

agne viśvebhiḥ svanīka devairūrṇāvantaṃ prathamaḥ sīda yonim | kulāyinaṃ ghṛtavantaṃ savitre yajñaṃ naya yajamānāya sādhu ||

Bright-rayed Agni, sit down first with all the gods, upon the altar lined with wool, a nest (of perfumes) and suffused with ghee, and rightly convey (to the deities) the sacrifice of the instrumental tutor of the rite, of the presenter of the oblation.

इममु त्यमथर्ववदग्निं मन्थन्ति वेधसः । यमङ्कूयन्तमानयन्नमूरं श्याव्याभ्यः ॥

imamu tyamatharvavadagniṃ manthanti vedhasaḥ | yamaṅkūyantamānayannamūraṃ śyāvyābhyaḥ ||

The priests churn you, Agni, as was done by atharvan, and bring him from the glooms of night wandering deviously, but not bewildered.

जनिष्वा देववीतये सर्वताता स्वस्तये । आ देवान्वक्ष्यमृताँ ऋतावृधो यज्ञं देवेषु पिस्पृशः ॥

janiṣvā devavītaye sarvatātā svastaye | ā devānvakṣyamṛtā~ ṛtāvṛdho yajñaṃ deveṣu pispṛśaḥ ||

Be born, Agni, at the sacrifice, for the welfare of the offerer (of oblation) to the gods; bring hither the immortal deities, the augmenters of the (sacred) rite present our sacrifice to the gods.

वयमु त्वा गृहपते जनानामग्ने अकर्म समिधा बृहन्तम् । अस्थूरि नो गार्हपत्यानि सन्तु तिग्मेन नस्तेजसा सं शिशाधि ॥

vayamu tvā gṛhapate janānāmagne akarma samidhā bṛhantam | asthūri no gārhapatyāni santu tigmena nastejasā saṃ śiśādhi ||

Lord of the house, Agni, we, among men, promote your increase by soma or fuel; may our domestic fires be supplied with all that is essential; enliven us with brilliant radiance.
