[rv-5-80] • 6 श्लोकाः

द्युतद्यामानं बृहतीमृतेन ऋतावरीमरुणप्सुं विभातीम् । देवीमुषसं स्वरावहन्तीं प्रति विप्रासो मतिभिर्जरन्ते ॥

dyutadyāmānaṃ bṛhatīmṛtena ṛtāvarīmaruṇapsuṃ vibhātīm | devīmuṣasaṃ svarāvahantīṃ prati viprāso matibhirjarante ||

The wise priests celebrate with hymns the divine, bright-chariot, expanded Dawn; worshipped with holy worship, purple-tinted, radiant, leading on the sun.

एषा जनं दर्शता बोधयन्ती सुगान्पथः कृण्वती यात्यग्रे । बृहद्रथा बृहती विश्वमिन्वोषा ज्योतिर्यच्छत्यग्रे अह्नाम् ॥

eṣā janaṃ darśatā bodhayantī sugānpathaḥ kṛṇvatī yātyagre | bṛhadrathā bṛhatī viśvaminvoṣā jyotiryacchatyagre ahnām ||

The lovely Dawn, arousing man, goes before (the sun) preparing practicable paths, riding in a spacious chariot; vast, expanding everywhere, she diffuses light at the commencement of the days.

एषा गोभिररुणेभिर्युजानास्रेधन्ती रयिमप्रायु चक्रे । पथो रदन्ती सुविताय देवी पुरुष्टुता विश्ववारा वि भाति ॥

eṣā gobhiraruṇebhiryujānāsredhantī rayimaprāyu cakre | patho radantī suvitāya devī puruṣṭutā viśvavārā vi bhāti ||

Harnessing the purple oxen to her car, unwearied she renders riches perpetual; a goddess, praised of many, and cherished by all, she shines, manifesting the paths that lead to good.

एषा व्येनी भवति द्विबर्हा आविष्कृण्वाना तन्वं पुरस्तात् । ऋतस्य पन्थामन्वेति साधु प्रजानतीव न दिशो मिनाति ॥

eṣā vyenī bhavati dvibarhā āviṣkṛṇvānā tanvaṃ purastāt | ṛtasya panthāmanveti sādhu prajānatīva na diśo mināti ||

Lucidly white is she, occupying the two (regions, the upper and middle firmament), and manifesting her person n from the east; she traverses the path of the sun as if knowing (his course), and harms not the quarters of the horizon.

एषा शुभ्रा न तन्वो विदानोर्ध्वेव स्नाती दृशये नो अस्थात् । अप द्वेषो बाधमाना तमांस्युषा दिवो दुहिता ज्योतिषागात् ॥

eṣā śubhrā na tanvo vidānordhveva snātī dṛśaye no asthāt | apa dveṣo bādhamānā tamāṃsyuṣā divo duhitā jyotiṣāgāt ||

exhibiting her person n like a well-attired feminine le, she stands before our eyes, (gracefully) inclining like (a woman who has been) bathing; dispersing the hostile glooms, Uṣas, the daughter of heaven, comes with radiance.

एषा प्रतीची दुहिता दिवो नॄन्योषेव भद्रा नि रिणीते अप्सः । व्यूर्ण्वती दाशुषे वार्याणि पुनर्ज्योतिर्युवतिः पूर्वथाकः ॥

eṣā pratīcī duhitā divo nṝnyoṣeva bhadrā ni riṇīte apsaḥ | vyūrṇvatī dāśuṣe vāryāṇi punarjyotiryuvatiḥ pūrvathākaḥ ||

Uṣas, the daughter of heaven, tending to the west puts forth her beauty like a (well-dressed) woman, bestowing precious treasures upon the offerer of adoration; she, ever youthful, brings back the light as (she has done) of old.
