[rv-5-8] • 7 श्लोकाः

त्वामग्न ऋतायवः समीधिरे प्रत्नं प्रत्नास ऊतये सहस्कृत । पुरुश्चन्द्रं यजतं विश्वधायसं दमूनसं गृहपतिं वरेण्यम् ॥

tvāmagna ṛtāyavaḥ samīdhire pratnaṃ pratnāsa ūtaye sahaskṛta | puruścandraṃ yajataṃ viśvadhāyasaṃ damūnasaṃ gṛhapatiṃ vareṇyam ||

Manifest of strength, Agni, ancient worshippers have kindled you of old for their preservation; you, the delighter of many, the adorable, the all-sustaining, the lowly-minded, the lord of the house, the excellent.

त्वामग्ने अतिथिं पूर्व्यं विशः शोचिष्केशं गृहपतिं नि षेदिरे । बृहत्केतुं पुरुरूपं धनस्पृतं सुशर्माणं स्ववसं जरद्विषम् ॥

tvāmagne atithiṃ pūrvyaṃ viśaḥ śociṣkeśaṃ gṛhapatiṃ ni ṣedire | bṛhatketuṃ pururūpaṃ dhanaspṛtaṃ suśarmāṇaṃ svavasaṃ jaradviṣam ||

Men have established you, (Agni), their ancient guest, as the lord of the house; (you), the blazing-haired, the vast bannered, the multiform, the dispenser of wealth, the bestower of happiness, the kind protector, the destruction of decaying (trees).

त्वामग्ने मानुषीरीऴते विशो होत्राविदं विविचिं रत्नधातमम् । गुहा सन्तं सुभग विश्वदर्शतं तुविष्वणसं सुयजं घृतश्रियम् ॥

tvāmagne mānuṣīrīḻate viśo hotrāvidaṃ viviciṃ ratnadhātamam | guhā santaṃ subhaga viśvadarśataṃ tuviṣvaṇasaṃ suyajaṃ ghṛtaśriyam ||

Human beings glorify you, Agni, the appreciator burnt-offerings, the discriminator (of truth), the main liberal giver of precious (things), abiding (awhile), auspicious one, in secret, (at other times) visible to all, loud sounding, offering worship, thriving upon clarified butter.

त्वामग्ने धर्णसिं विश्वधा वयं गीर्भिर्गृणन्तो नमसोप सेदिम । स नो जुषस्व समिधानो अङ्गिरो देवो मर्तस्य यशसा सुदीतिभिः ॥

tvāmagne dharṇasiṃ viśvadhā vayaṃ gīrbhirgṛṇanto namasopa sedima | sa no juṣasva samidhāno aṅgiro devo martasya yaśasā sudītibhiḥ ||

We approach you, all-sustaining Agni, adoring you in many ways with hymns and with prostrations; do you, Aṅgiras, when kindled, be propitious to us; may the divine (Agni be plural ased) by the (sacrificial) food (offered by the) worshippers, and by the bright flames (of his sacrifice).

त्वमग्ने पुरुरूपो विशेविशे वयो दधासि प्रत्नथा पुरुष्टुत । पुरूण्यन्ना सहसा वि राजसि त्विषिः सा ते तित्विषाणस्य नाधृषे ॥

tvamagne pururūpo viśeviśe vayo dadhāsi pratnathā puruṣṭuta | purūṇyannā sahasā vi rājasi tviṣiḥ sā te titviṣāṇasya nādhṛṣe ||

Agni, the praised of many, you who are multiform, giver of old food to every mortal; you reign with strength over the various (sacrificial) viands; the splendour of you when blazing brightly is not rivalled (by any).

त्वामग्ने समिधानं यविष्ठ्य देवा दूतं चक्रिरे हव्यवाहनम् । उरुज्रयसं घृतयोनिमाहुतं त्वेषं चक्षुर्दधिरे चोदयन्मति ॥

tvāmagne samidhānaṃ yaviṣṭhya devā dūtaṃ cakrire havyavāhanam | urujrayasaṃ ghṛtayonimāhutaṃ tveṣaṃ cakṣurdadhire codayanmati ||

Agni, young (of the deities), the gods have made you, when kindled, their messenger, the bearer of oblations; you, who are rapid in movement, and of whom butter is the source, they have made, when invoked, the brilliant eye (of the universe), instrumental gated by the understanding.

त्वामग्ने प्रदिव आहुतं घृतैः सुम्नायवः सुषमिधा समीधिरे । स वावृधान ओषधीभिरुक्षितोऽभि ज्रयांसि पार्थिवा वि तिष्ठसे ॥

tvāmagne pradiva āhutaṃ ghṛtaiḥ sumnāyavaḥ suṣamidhā samīdhire | sa vāvṛdhāna oṣadhībhirukṣito'bhi jrayāṃsi pārthivā vi tiṣṭhase ||

The ancient seekers after happiness hav ekindled you, Agni, when invoked, (and fed you) with abundant fuel; and you (thereby) increasing, and supplied with shrubs, are dominat over all terrestrial viands.
