[rv-5-25] • 9 श्लोकाः

अच्छा वो अग्निमवसे देवं गासि स नो वसुः । रासत्पुत्र ऋषूणामृतावा पर्षति द्विषः ॥

acchā vo agnimavase devaṃ gāsi sa no vasuḥ | rāsatputra ṛṣūṇāmṛtāvā parṣati dviṣaḥ ||

Celebrate the divine Agni for his protection; may he who presides over dwellings grant (our desires); may the son of the ṛṣis, the observers of truth, save us from those who hate us.

स हि सत्यो यं पूर्वे चिद्देवासश्चिद्यमीधिरे । होतारं मन्द्रजिह्वमित्सुदीतिभिर्विभावसुम् ॥

sa hi satyo yaṃ pūrve ciddevāsaścidyamīdhire | hotāraṃ mandrajihvamitsudītibhirvibhāvasum ||

That Agni is true whom ancients, whom the gods have kindled, as the bright-tongued invoker of the gods, radiant with holy splendours.

स नो धीती वरिष्ठया श्रेष्ठया च सुमत्या । अग्ने रायो दिदीहि नः सुवृक्तिभिर्वरेण्य ॥

sa no dhītī variṣṭhayā śreṣṭhayā ca sumatyā | agne rāyo didīhi naḥ suvṛktibhirvareṇya ||

Agni, to be propitiated by praises, (gratified) by our choice and most excellent adoration and hymns, bestow upon us riches.

अग्निर्देवेषु राजत्यग्निर्मर्तेष्वाविशन् । अग्निर्नो हव्यवाहनोऽग्निं धीभिः सपर्यत ॥

agnirdeveṣu rājatyagnirmarteṣvāviśan | agnirno havyavāhano'gniṃ dhībhiḥ saparyata ||

Agni shines among the gods; Agni is present among mortals; Agni is the bearer of our oblations glorify Agni with praises.

अग्निस्तुविश्रवस्तमं तुविब्रह्माणमुत्तमम् । अतूर्तं श्रावयत्पतिं पुत्रं ददाति दाशुषे ॥

agnistuviśravastamaṃ tuvibrahmāṇamuttamam | atūrtaṃ śrāvayatpatiṃ putraṃ dadāti dāśuṣe ||

May Agni bestow upon the donor (of the oblation) son, abounding in food, abounding in devotion, excellent, unharmed, conferring honour upon his progenitors.

अग्निर्ददाति सत्पतिं सासाह यो युधा नृभिः । अग्निरत्यं रघुष्यदं जेतारमपराजितम् ॥

agnirdadāti satpatiṃ sāsāha yo yudhā nṛbhiḥ | agniratyaṃ raghuṣyadaṃ jetāramaparājitam ||

May Agni bestow a son, the protector of the good, who, with his followers, may be victorious in battle; may he bestow a swift-footed steed, conquering, unconquered.

यद्वाहिष्ठं तदग्नये बृहदर्च विभावसो । महिषीव त्वद्रयिस्त्वद्वाजा उदीरते ॥

yadvāhiṣṭhaṃ tadagnaye bṛhadarca vibhāvaso | mahiṣīva tvadrayistvadvājā udīrate ||

That (praise) which best conveys (our veneration, is due) to Agni; affluent in splendour, grant us, (Agni), great (wealth), for from you vast riches and ample food proceed.

तव द्युमन्तो अर्चयो ग्रावेवोच्यते बृहत् । उतो ते तन्यतुर्यथा स्वानो अर्त त्मना दिवः ॥

tava dyumanto arcayo grāvevocyate bṛhat | uto te tanyaturyathā svāno arta tmanā divaḥ ||

Brilliant, Agni, are your rays; mighty are you termed, like the stone (that bruises the Soma), and your voice spontaneously spreads through the sky like thundeṛ

एवाँ अग्निं वसूयवः सहसानं ववन्दिम । स नो विश्वा अति द्विषः पर्षन्नावेव सुक्रतुः ॥

evā~ agniṃ vasūyavaḥ sahasānaṃ vavandima | sa no viśvā ati dviṣaḥ parṣannāveva sukratuḥ ||

Thus, we Vasuyus, glorify the vigorous Agni; may he, the performer of great deeds, enable us to pass over all our enemies as (we cross a river) with a boat.
