ऋग्वेद 5.17 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

आ यज्ञैर्देव मर्त्य इत्था तव्यांसमूतये । अग्निं कृते स्वध्वरे पूरुरीऴीतावसे ॥

ā yajñairdeva martya itthā tavyāṃsamūtaye | agniṃ kṛte svadhvare pūrurīḻītāvase ||

Divine Agni, a mortal thus with sacrifices (calls upon you) who are endowed with lustre for protection; Puru adores Agni for protection when the sacred rite is solemnized.

अस्य हि स्वयशस्तर आसा विधर्मन्मन्यसे । तं नाकं चित्रशोचिषं मन्द्रं परो मनीषया ॥

asya hi svayaśastara āsā vidharmanmanyase | taṃ nākaṃ citraśociṣaṃ mandraṃ paro manīṣayā ||

Performer of various functions, who are deservedly renowned, you praise by your words that Agni, who is possessed of wonderful splendour, who is exempt from pain, who is adorable and supreme in understanding.

अस्य वासा उ अर्चिषा य आयुक्त तुजा गिरा । दिवो न यस्य रेतसा बृहच्छोचन्त्यर्चयः ॥

asya vāsā u arciṣā ya āyukta tujā girā | divo na yasya retasā bṛhacchocantyarcayaḥ ||

He who is endowed with vigour, is (glorified) by praise, and by whose radiance, like that of the sky, the rays of light shine brightly; by his lustre, verily, (the sun is luminous).

अस्य क्रत्वा विचेतसो दस्मस्य वसु रथ आ । अधा विश्वासु हव्योऽग्निर्विक्षु प्र शस्यते ॥

asya kratvā vicetaso dasmasya vasu ratha ā | adhā viśvāsu havyo'gnirvikṣu pra śasyate ||

By the worship of him who is plural asing of aspect, the provident (heap) wealth in their cars; Agni, to whom oblations are due, is then glorified by all people.

नू न इद्धि वार्यमासा सचन्त सूरयः । ऊर्जो नपादभिष्टये पाहि शग्धि स्वस्तय उतैधि पृत्सु नो वृधे ॥

nū na iddhi vāryamāsā sacanta sūrayaḥ | ūrjo napādabhiṣṭaye pāhi śagdhi svastaya utaidhi pṛtsu no vṛdhe ||

Quickly, (Agni, give us) desirable (wealth), such as the devout, combining with (pious) praise, (obtain); son of strength (be favourable) to (my) desires; protect us (from calamity); be alert for our prosperity; come for our success in battles.
