[rv-4-8] • 8 श्लोकाः

दूतं वो विश्ववेदसं हव्यवाहममर्त्यम् । यजिष्ठमृञ्जसे गिरा ॥

dūtaṃ vo viśvavedasaṃ havyavāhamamartyam | yajiṣṭhamṛñjase girā ||

I propitiate you with praise, the messenger (of the gods), the omniscient, the bearer of oblations, the immortal, the chief sacrificer.

स हि वेदा वसुधितिं महाँ आरोधनं दिवः । स देवाँ एह वक्षति ॥

sa hi vedā vasudhitiṃ mahā~ ārodhanaṃ divaḥ | sa devā~ eha vakṣati ||

The mighty one knows how to bestow the (desired) wealth (upon the worshipper); he knows the ascents of heaven; may he bring the gods hither.

स वेद देव आनमं देवाँ ऋतायते दमे । दाति प्रियाणि चिद्वसु ॥

sa veda deva ānamaṃ devā~ ṛtāyate dame | dāti priyāṇi cidvasu ||

He, the divine (Agni), knows how the gods are to be reverenced; to the sincere (worshipper) in his dwelling he gives wealth that is desired.

स होता सेदु दूत्यं चिकित्वाँ अन्तरीयते । विद्वाँ आरोधनं दिवः ॥

sa hotā sedu dūtyaṃ cikitvā~ antarīyate | vidvā~ ārodhanaṃ divaḥ ||

He is the invoker (of the gods), comprehending the deity of (their) messenger; and, knowing the ascent of the sky, he travels between earth and heaven.

ते स्याम ये अग्नये ददाशुर्हव्यदातिभिः । य ईं पुष्यन्त इन्धते ॥

te syāma ye agnaye dadāśurhavyadātibhiḥ | ya īṃ puṣyanta indhate ||

May we be they who propitiate Agni with gifts of oblations, and who, cherishing him, feed him with fuel.

ते राया ते सुवीर्यैः ससवांसो वि शृण्विरे । ये अग्ना दधिरे दुवः ॥

te rāyā te suvīryaiḥ sasavāṃso vi śṛṇvire | ye agnā dadhire duvaḥ ||

They are renowned for riches and for progeny, who, venerating Agni, offer him oblations.

अस्मे रायो दिवेदिवे सं चरन्तु पुरुस्पृहः । अस्मे वाजास ईरताम् ॥

asme rāyo divedive saṃ carantu puruspṛhaḥ | asme vājāsa īratām ||

Many riches, envied by many, devolve upon us day by day, and (abundant) food await us.

स विप्रश्चर्षणीनां शवसा मानुषाणाम् । अति क्षिप्रेव विध्यति ॥

sa vipraścarṣaṇīnāṃ śavasā mānuṣāṇām | ati kṣipreva vidhyati ||

May the wise Agni entirely obviate, by his powe,r the removable (ills) of men the descendants of Manu.
