[rv-4-55] • 10 श्लोकाः

को वस्त्राता वसवः को वरूता द्यावाभूमी अदिते त्रासीथां नः । सहीयसो वरुण मित्र मर्तात्को वोऽध्वरे वरिवो धाति देवाः ॥

ko vastrātā vasavaḥ ko varūtā dyāvābhūmī adite trāsīthāṃ naḥ | sahīyaso varuṇa mitra martātko vo'dhvare varivo dhāti devāḥ ||

Which of you, Vasus, is a defender? Which is a protector? Heaven and earth and Aditi preserve us; defend us, Mitra and Varuṇa, from the strong man; who is it, gods, that offers you wealth at the sacrifice?

प्र ये धामानि पूर्व्याण्यर्चान्वि यदुच्छान्वियोतारो अमूराः । विधातारो वि ते दधुरजस्रा ऋतधीतयो रुरुचन्त दस्माः ॥

pra ye dhāmāni pūrvyāṇyarcānvi yaducchānviyotāro amūrāḥ | vidhātāro vi te dadhurajasrā ṛtadhītayo rurucanta dasmāḥ ||

The (deities) who bestow ancient plural ces (of enjoyment on their worshippers), and (with minds) unperplexed, are the separators of light (from darkness); they, the eternal distributors (of rewards), grant (what is desired), and shine of plural asing aspect, the true (recompensers) of pious actṣ

प्र पस्त्यामदितिं सिन्धुमर्कैः स्वस्तिमीऴे सख्याय देवीम् । उभे यथा नो अहनी निपात उषासानक्ता करतामदब्धे ॥

pra pastyāmaditiṃ sindhumarkaiḥ svastimīḻe sakhyāya devīm | ubhe yathā no ahanī nipāta uṣāsānaktā karatāmadabdhe ||

I adore the venerated Aditi, the Sindhu and the divine Svasti for their friendship; (I praise you) both, Day and Night, that you may protect us unimpeded; night and morning do (what we desire).

व्यर्यमा वरुणश्चेति पन्थामिषस्पतिः सुवितं गातुमग्निः । इन्द्राविष्णू नृवदु षु स्तवाना शर्म नो यन्तममवद्वरूथम् ॥

vyaryamā varuṇaśceti panthāmiṣaspatiḥ suvitaṃ gātumagniḥ | indrāviṣṇū nṛvadu ṣu stavānā śarma no yantamamavadvarūtham ||

Aryaman and Varuṇa instrumental uct us in the path (of worship); Agni, the lord of food points out the way to happiness; Indra and Viṣṇu, being glorified, bestow upon us desirable prosperity comprehending descendants and strength.

आ पर्वतस्य मरुतामवांसि देवस्य त्रातुरव्रि भगस्य । पात्पतिर्जन्यादंहसो नो मित्रो मित्रियादुत न उरुष्येत् ॥

ā parvatasya marutāmavāṃsi devasya trāturavri bhagasya | pātpatirjanyādaṃhaso no mitro mitriyāduta na uruṣyet ||

I have recourse to the protection of Parvata, of the Maruts, and of the divine protector, Bhaga; may the lord (Varuṇa) preserve us from human wretchedness, and may Mitra defend us with a friendly regard.

नू रोदसी अहिना बुध्न्येन स्तुवीत देवी अप्येभिरिष्टैः । समुद्रं न संचरणे सनिष्यवो घर्मस्वरसो नद्यो अप व्रन् ॥

nū rodasī ahinā budhnyena stuvīta devī apyebhiriṣṭaiḥ | samudraṃ na saṃcaraṇe saniṣyavo gharmasvaraso nadyo apa vran ||

Divine Heaven and Earth, I praise you together with Ahirbudhnya for those (good things that are) desired, as those desirous of acquiring (riches) praise the ocean on traversing it (in which) the sounding rivers disappear.

देवैर्नो देव्यदितिर्नि पातु देवस्त्राता त्रायतामप्रयुच्छन् । नहि मित्रस्य वरुणस्य धासिमर्हामसि प्रमियं सान्वग्नेः ॥

devairno devyaditirni pātu devastrātā trāyatāmaprayucchan | nahi mitrasya varuṇasya dhāsimarhāmasi pramiyaṃ sānvagneḥ ||

May the divine Aditi, with the gods, preserve us; may the ever-attentive protecting (deity, Indra), protect us; we are not able to withhold the elevated (sacrificial) food of Mitra, of Varuṇa, of Agni.

अग्निरीशे वसव्यस्याग्निर्महः सौभगस्य । तान्यस्मभ्यं रासते ॥

agnirīśe vasavyasyāgnirmahaḥ saubhagasya | tānyasmabhyaṃ rāsate ||

Agni is lord over treasure; Agni (is lord) over great good fortune; may he bestow them upon us.

उषो मघोन्या वह सूनृते वार्या पुरु । अस्मभ्यं वाजिनीवति ॥

uṣo maghonyā vaha sūnṛte vāryā puru | asmabhyaṃ vājinīvati ||

Opulent, Uṣas, truth-speaking, food-abounding, bestow upon us many good things.

तत्सु नः सविता भगो वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा । इन्द्रो नो राधसा गमत् ॥

tatsu naḥ savitā bhago varuṇo mitro aryamā | indro no rādhasā gamat ||

May Savitā, Bhaga, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, Indra, come to us with the wealth (that each bestow).
