[rv-4-56] • 7 श्लोकाः

मही द्यावापृथिवी इह ज्येष्ठे रुचा भवतां शुचयद्भिरर्कैः । यत्सीं वरिष्ठे बृहती विमिन्वन्रुवद्धोक्षा पप्रथानेभिरेवैः ॥

mahī dyāvāpṛthivī iha jyeṣṭhe rucā bhavatāṃ śucayadbhirarkaiḥ | yatsīṃ variṣṭhe bṛhatī viminvanruvaddhokṣā paprathānebhirevaiḥ ||

Vast and most excellent Heaven and Earth, be present with splendour at this (sacrifice, attracted) by sanctifying hymns; since that the showerer sounds everywhere with (his) heralds, the rapid (winds), passing through the two spacious and mighty (regions).

देवी देवेभिर्यजते यजत्रैरमिनती तस्थतुरुक्षमाणे । ऋतावरी अद्रुहा देवपुत्रे यज्ञस्य नेत्री शुचयद्भिरर्कैः ॥

devī devebhiryajate yajatrairaminatī tasthaturukṣamāṇe | ṛtāvarī adruhā devaputre yajñasya netrī śucayadbhirarkaiḥ ||

May the divine, adorable, benevolent, fertilizing, truthful, unoppressive Heaven and Earth, the leaders of sacrifice, whose sons are the gods, be present with the adorable gods, (attracted) by sanctifying hymns.

स इत्स्वपा भुवनेष्वास य इमे द्यावापृथिवी जजान । उर्वी गभीरे रजसी सुमेके अवंशे धीरः शच्या समैरत् ॥

sa itsvapā bhuvaneṣvāsa ya ime dyāvāpṛthivī jajāna | urvī gabhīre rajasī sumeke avaṃśe dhīraḥ śacyā samairat ||

Verily he was the doer of a good work in the regions, who genitive rated these two, Heaven and Earth, and firm of purpose, gave an impulse by his deed to the two vast immoveable, beautiful, unsupported worlds.

नू रोदसी बृहद्भिर्नो वरूथैः पत्नीवद्भिरिषयन्ती सजोषाः । उरूची विश्वे यजते नि पातं धिया स्याम रथ्यः सदासाः ॥

nū rodasī bṛhadbhirno varūthaiḥ patnīvadbhiriṣayantī sajoṣāḥ | urūcī viśve yajate ni pātaṃ dhiyā syāma rathyaḥ sadāsāḥ ||

May Heaven and Earth, vast, universal, adorable, united in satisfaction and disposed to give us food, protect us with our spacious dwelings, inhabited by our wives, and may we for our (pious) acts be possessed of chariots and slaves.

प्र वां महि द्यवी अभ्युपस्तुतिं भरामहे । शुची उप प्रशस्तये ॥

pra vāṃ mahi dyavī abhyupastutiṃ bharāmahe | śucī upa praśastaye ||

We offer earnest praise you both resplendent (Heaven and Earth); we approach you who are pure to offer adoration.

पुनाने तन्वा मिथः स्वेन दक्षेण राजथः । ऊह्याथे सनादृतम् ॥

punāne tanvā mithaḥ svena dakṣeṇa rājathaḥ | ūhyāthe sanādṛtam ||

Mutually sanctifying (each other) of your own substance you shine by your own power, and ever beat away the offering.

मही मित्रस्य साधथस्तरन्ती पिप्रती ऋतम् । परि यज्ञं नि षेदथुः ॥

mahī mitrasya sādhathastarantī pipratī ṛtam | pari yajñaṃ ni ṣedathuḥ ||

Mighty (Heaven and Earth), you fulfil the desires of your friend; distributing food and giving sustenance you have sat down at the sacrifice.
