[rv-4-32] • 24 श्लोकाः

आ तू न इन्द्र वृत्रहन्नस्माकमर्धमा गहि । महान्महीभिरूतिभिः ॥

ā tū na indra vṛtrahannasmākamardhamā gahi | mahānmahībhirūtibhiḥ ||

Indra, slayer of Vṛtra, come to us quickly; you, who are mighty, (come) with mighty protections.

भृमिश्चिद्घासि तूतुजिरा चित्र चित्रिणीष्वा । चित्रं कृणोष्यूतये ॥

bhṛmiścidghāsi tūtujirā citra citriṇīṣvā | citraṃ kṛṇoṣyūtaye ||

Wonderful Indra, wanderer at times (through space), you are verily the granter of (our) desires, and do what is marvellous for the protection (of those who are engaged) in wondrous works.

दभ्रेभिश्चिच्छशीयांसं हंसि व्राधन्तमोजसा । सखिभिर्ये त्वे सचा ॥

dabhrebhiścicchaśīyāṃsaṃ haṃsi vrādhantamojasā | sakhibhirye tve sacā ||

You destroy by your might the fierce assailing foe, associated with the humble friends who are along with you.

वयमिन्द्र त्वे सचा वयं त्वाभि नोनुमः । अस्माँअस्माँ इदुदव ॥

vayamindra tve sacā vayaṃ tvābhi nonumaḥ | asmā~asmā~ idudava ||

We, Indra, are along with you; we zealously glorify you; do verily protect us all.

स नश्चित्राभिरद्रिवोऽनवद्याभिरूतिभिः । अनाधृष्टाभिरा गहि ॥

sa naścitrābhiradrivo'navadyābhirūtibhiḥ | anādhṛṣṭābhirā gahi ||

Wielder of the thunderbolt, do you come to us with wondrous, irreproachable, irresistible protections.

भूयामो षु त्वावतः सखाय इन्द्र गोमतः । युजो वाजाय घृष्वये ॥

bhūyāmo ṣu tvāvataḥ sakhāya indra gomataḥ | yujo vājāya ghṛṣvaye ||

May we, Indra, be the friends of one like you, possessed of cattle, allied (to him) for (the sake of) abundant food.

त्वं ह्येक ईशिष इन्द्र वाजस्य गोमतः । स नो यन्धि महीमिषम् ॥

tvaṃ hyeka īśiṣa indra vājasya gomataḥ | sa no yandhi mahīmiṣam ||

For you alone, Indra, are lord over food combined with cattle; therefore do you grant us ample food.

न त्वा वरन्ते अन्यथा यद्दित्ससि स्तुतो मघम् । स्तोतृभ्य इन्द्र गिर्वणः ॥

na tvā varante anyathā yadditsasi stuto magham | stotṛbhya indra girvaṇaḥ ||

None change your purpose, Indra, object of laudation, when, being praised, you desire to bestow wealth upon the praisers.

अभि त्वा गोतमा गिरानूषत प्र दावने । इन्द्र वाजाय घृष्वये ॥

abhi tvā gotamā girānūṣata pra dāvane | indra vājāya ghṛṣvaye ||

The Gotamas glorify you, Indra, with praise, that you may grant wealth, and for the sake of abundant food.

प्र ते वोचाम वीर्या या मन्दसान आरुजः । पुरो दासीरभीत्य ॥

pra te vocāma vīryā yā mandasāna ārujaḥ | puro dāsīrabhītya ||

We proclaim your prowess, whereby exhilarated (by the Soma), and having gone against them, you have demolished the servile cities.

ता ते गृणन्ति वेधसो यानि चकर्थ पौंस्या । सुतेष्विन्द्र गिर्वणः ॥

tā te gṛṇanti vedhaso yāni cakartha pauṃsyā | suteṣvindra girvaṇaḥ ||

The pious celebrate your manly exploits, Indra, object of laudation, when the juices (of the Soma) are effused.

अवीवृधन्त गोतमा इन्द्र त्वे स्तोमवाहसः । ऐषु धा वीरवद्यशः ॥

avīvṛdhanta gotamā indra tve stomavāhasaḥ | aiṣu dhā vīravadyaśaḥ ||

The Gotamas, offerers of praise, exalt you, Indra; bestow upon them food and prosperity.

यच्चिद्धि शश्वतामसीन्द्र साधारणस्त्वम् । तं त्वा वयं हवामहे ॥

yacciddhi śaśvatāmasīndra sādhāraṇastvam | taṃ tvā vayaṃ havāmahe ||

Although, Indra, you are the common property of (all) worshippers, we invoke you (such) as your are (for ourselves).

अर्वाचीनो वसो भवास्मे सु मत्स्वान्धसः । सोमानामिन्द्र सोमपाः ॥

arvācīno vaso bhavāsme su matsvāndhasaḥ | somānāmindra somapāḥ ||

Giver of dwellings, be present with us; drinker of the Soma, be exhilarated by the beverage of the juices.

अस्माकं त्वा मतीनामा स्तोम इन्द्र यच्छतु । अर्वागा वर्तया हरी ॥

asmākaṃ tvā matīnāmā stoma indra yacchatu | arvāgā vartayā harī ||

May the praise (of us) who are devoted (to you), Indra, give you to us; guide your horses towards us.

पुरोऴाशं च नो घसो जोषयासे गिरश्च नः । वधूयुरिव योषणाम् ॥

puroḻāśaṃ ca no ghaso joṣayāse giraśca naḥ | vadhūyuriva yoṣaṇām ||

Eat (Indra) our cakes and butter; be plural ased by our praises as a libertine (by the caresses) of a woman.

सहस्रं व्यतीनां युक्तानामिन्द्रमीमहे । शतं सोमस्य खार्यः ॥

sahasraṃ vyatīnāṃ yuktānāmindramīmahe | śataṃ somasya khāryaḥ ||

We solicit, Indra for a thousand well-trained, swift-going horses, for a hundred jars of Soma juice.

सहस्रा ते शता वयं गवामा च्यावयामसि । अस्मत्रा राध एतु ते ॥

sahasrā te śatā vayaṃ gavāmā cyāvayāmasi | asmatrā rādha etu te ||

We seek to bring down from you thousands and hundreds of cattle; may riches come to us from you.

दश ते कलशानां हिरण्यानामधीमहि । भूरिदा असि वृत्रहन् ॥

daśa te kalaśānāṃ hiraṇyānāmadhīmahi | bhūridā asi vṛtrahan ||

May we obtain from you, ten golden ewers, for you, slayer of Vṛtra, are a bountiful giver.

भूरिदा भूरि देहि नो मा दभ्रं भूर्या भर । भूरि घेदिन्द्र दित्ससि ॥

bhūridā bhūri dehi no mā dabhraṃ bhūryā bhara | bhūri ghedindra ditsasi ||

A bountiful giver are you, Indra; give bountifully to us; (give) not little; bring much; for verily you desire to give much.

भूरिदा ह्यसि श्रुतः पुरुत्रा शूर वृत्रहन् । आ नो भजस्व राधसि ॥

bhūridā hyasi śrutaḥ purutrā śūra vṛtrahan | ā no bhajasva rādhasi ||

Verily you are renowned among many as a bountiful giver, hero, slayer of Vṛtra, make us sharers in wealth.

प्र ते बभ्रू विचक्षण शंसामि गोषणो नपात् । माभ्यां गा अनु शिश्रथः ॥

pra te babhrū vicakṣaṇa śaṃsāmi goṣaṇo napāt | mābhyāṃ gā anu śiśrathaḥ ||

Wise Indra, I praise your brown (horses); bestower of kine, (who are) not regardless (of your worshippers); with those two steeds terrify not our cattle.

कनीनकेव विद्रधे नवे द्रुपदे अर्भके । बभ्रू यामेषु शोभेते ॥

kanīnakeva vidradhe nave drupade arbhake | babhrū yāmeṣu śobhete ||

Like two puppets on an arranged, new and slender stage, your two brown (steeds) are brilliant at sacrifices.

अरं म उस्रयाम्णेऽरमनुस्रयाम्णे । बभ्रू यामेष्वस्रिधा ॥

araṃ ma usrayāmṇe'ramanusrayāmṇe | babhrū yāmeṣvasridhā ||

Your two innocuous brown (steeds) are sufficient at sacrifices for me, whether going (to them) in (a wagon drawn by) oxen, or going without (such) a conveyance.
