[rv-4-31] • 15 श्लोकाः

कया नश्चित्र आ भुवदूती सदावृधः सखा । कया शचिष्ठया वृता ॥

kayā naścitra ā bhuvadūtī sadāvṛdhaḥ sakhā | kayā śaciṣṭhayā vṛtā ||

By what means may he who is ever augmenting, who is wonderful, who is our friend, be present with us, by what most effective rite?

कस्त्वा सत्यो मदानां मंहिष्ठो मत्सदन्धसः । दृऴ्हा चिदारुजे वसु ॥

kastvā satyo madānāṃ maṃhiṣṭho matsadandhasaḥ | dṛḻhā cidāruje vasu ||

What genitive ine and most esteemed of the exhilarating juies of the (sacriiial) beverage may delight you to demolish the substantial treasures (of the foe)?

अभी षु णः सखीनामविता जरितॄणाम् । शतं भवास्यूतिभिः ॥

abhī ṣu ṇaḥ sakhīnāmavitā jaritṝṇām | śataṃ bhavāsyūtibhiḥ ||

Do you, the protector of us your friends and praisers, be present with a hundred protections.

अभी न आ ववृत्स्व चक्रं न वृत्तमर्वतः । नियुद्भिश्चर्षणीनाम् ॥

abhī na ā vavṛtsva cakraṃ na vṛttamarvataḥ | niyudbhiścarṣaṇīnām ||

(Induced) by the praise of men, return like a revolving wheel to us, dependent (upon your favour).

प्रवता हि क्रतूनामा हा पदेव गच्छसि । अभक्षि सूर्ये सचा ॥

pravatā hi kratūnāmā hā padeva gacchasi | abhakṣi sūrye sacā ||

You come in a downward (direction) to sacfred rites, as if to your own station; I glorify you together with the sun.

सं यत्त इन्द्र मन्यवः सं चक्राणि दधन्विरे । अध त्वे अध सूर्ये ॥

saṃ yatta indra manyavaḥ saṃ cakrāṇi dadhanvire | adha tve adha sūrye ||

When you praises, and these sacred rites, Indra, are addressed to you, they first belong to you and next to Sūrya.

उत स्मा हि त्वामाहुरिन्मघवानं शचीपते । दातारमविदीधयुम् ॥

uta smā hi tvāmāhurinmaghavānaṃ śacīpate | dātāramavidīdhayum ||

Lord of holy acts, they call you Maghavan, the munificent, the resplendent.

उत स्मा सद्य इत्परि शशमानाय सुन्वते । पुरू चिन्मंहसे वसु ॥

uta smā sadya itpari śaśamānāya sunvate | purū cinmaṃhase vasu ||

And verily you give promptly abundant wealth to him who praises you and offers you libations.

नहि ष्मा ते शतं चन राधो वरन्त आमुरः । न च्यौत्नानि करिष्यतः ॥

nahi ṣmā te śataṃ cana rādho varanta āmuraḥ | na cyautnāni kariṣyataḥ ||

Adversaries diminish not your hundred-fold opulence nor resist the energies of you opposing (them).

अस्माँ अवन्तु ते शतमस्मान्त्सहस्रमूतयः । अस्मान्विश्वा अभिष्टयः ॥

asmā~ avantu te śatamasmāntsahasramūtayaḥ | asmānviśvā abhiṣṭayaḥ ||

May your hundred, your thousand, protections preserve us; may all (your) desires (be for our defence).

अस्माँ इहा वृणीष्व सख्याय स्वस्तये । महो राये दिवित्मते ॥

asmā~ ihā vṛṇīṣva sakhyāya svastaye | maho rāye divitmate ||

Select us, Indra, on this occasion, for your friendship, for (our) welfare, for vast and splendid riches.

अस्माँ अविड्ढि विश्वहेन्द्र राया परीणसा । अस्मान्विश्वाभिरूतिभिः ॥

asmā~ aviḍḍhi viśvahendra rāyā parīṇasā | asmānviśvābhirūtibhiḥ ||

Favour us, Indra, daily with infinite riches (protect) us with all protections.

अस्मभ्यं ताँ अपा वृधि व्रजाँ अस्तेव गोमतः । नवाभिरिन्द्रोतिभिः ॥

asmabhyaṃ tā~ apā vṛdhi vrajā~ asteva gomataḥ | navābhirindrotibhiḥ ||

With fresh protections, Indra, like a warrior, open for us those pastures filled with cattle.

अस्माकं धृष्णुया रथो द्युमाँ इन्द्रानपच्युतः । गव्युरश्वयुरीयते ॥

asmākaṃ dhṛṣṇuyā ratho dyumā~ indrānapacyutaḥ | gavyuraśvayurīyate ||

May our chariot, Indra, foe-repelling, brilliant unfailing, proceed (everywhere), possessing us of cattle and of horses.

अस्माकमुत्तमं कृधि श्रवो देवेषु सूर्य । वर्षिष्ठं द्यामिवोपरि ॥

asmākamuttamaṃ kṛdhi śravo deveṣu sūrya | varṣiṣṭhaṃ dyāmivopari ||

Sūrya, make our fame exalted among the gods, as (you have plural ced) the sky, the shedder of most copious rain, above (all other regions).
