[rv-4-30] • 24 श्लोकाः

नकिरिन्द्र त्वदुत्तरो न ज्यायाँ अस्ति वृत्रहन् । नकिरेवा यथा त्वम् ॥

nakirindra tvaduttaro na jyāyā~ asti vṛtrahan | nakirevā yathā tvam ||

There is no one, Indra, superior to you; no one more excellent (than you); slayer of Vṛtra there is no one, verily, such as you are.

सत्रा ते अनु कृष्टयो विश्वा चक्रेव वावृतुः । सत्रा महाँ असि श्रुतः ॥

satrā te anu kṛṣṭayo viśvā cakreva vāvṛtuḥ | satrā mahā~ asi śrutaḥ ||

Verily men are attached to you as are all the wheels (to the body of the wagon); in truth you are great and renowned.

विश्वे चनेदना त्वा देवास इन्द्र युयुधुः । यदहा नक्तमातिरः ॥

viśve canedanā tvā devāsa indra yuyudhuḥ | yadahā naktamātiraḥ ||

Verily all the gods, with you (for) their strength, have warred (with the asuras); wherefore you have destroyed by day and by night.

यत्रोत बाधितेभ्यश्चक्रं कुत्साय युध्यते । मुषाय इन्द्र सूर्यम् ॥

yatrota bādhitebhyaścakraṃ kutsāya yudhyate | muṣāya indra sūryam ||

In wihc (contests), for the sake of Kutsa and his allies, you hae stolen, Indra, the (wheel of the car) of the sun.

यत्र देवाँ ऋघायतो विश्वाँ अयुध्य एक इत् । त्वमिन्द्र वनूँरहन् ॥

yatra devā~ ṛghāyato viśvā~ ayudhya eka it | tvamindra vanū~rahan ||

In which (contest) you singly indeed have warred with all those opposing the gods; you, Indra, have slain the malignant.

यत्रोत मर्त्याय कमरिणा इन्द्र सूर्यम् । प्रावः शचीभिरेतशम् ॥

yatrota martyāya kamariṇā indra sūryam | prāvaḥ śacībhiretaśam ||

In which (contests), Indra you have, for the sake of a mortal, discomfited the sun, and have protected Etaśa by (your) exploits.

किमादुतासि वृत्रहन्मघवन्मन्युमत्तमः । अत्राह दानुमातिरः ॥

kimādutāsi vṛtrahanmaghavanmanyumattamaḥ | atrāha dānumātiraḥ ||

Wherefore, slayer of Vṛtra, opulent Indra, have you thereupon become most incensed, and in consequence, have slain the son of Danu (Vṛtra) in this firmament.

एतद्घेदुत वीर्यमिन्द्र चकर्थ पौंस्यम् । स्त्रियं यद्दुर्हणायुवं वधीर्दुहितरं दिवः ॥

etadgheduta vīryamindra cakartha pauṃsyam | striyaṃ yaddurhaṇāyuvaṃ vadhīrduhitaraṃ divaḥ ||

Inasmuch, Indra, as you have displayed such manly prowess, you have slain the woman, the daughter of the sky, when meditating mischief.

दिवश्चिद्घा दुहितरं महान्महीयमानाम् । उषासमिन्द्र सं पिणक् ॥

divaścidghā duhitaraṃ mahānmahīyamānām | uṣāsamindra saṃ piṇak ||

You Indra, who are mighty, have enriched glorious dawn, the daughter of heaven.

अपोषा अनसः सरत्सम्पिष्टादह बिभ्युषी । नि यत्सीं शिश्नथद्वृषा ॥

apoṣā anasaḥ saratsampiṣṭādaha bibhyuṣī | ni yatsīṃ śiśnathadvṛṣā ||

The terrified Uṣas descended from the broken wagon when the (showerer of benefits) had smashed it.

एतदस्या अनः शये सुसम्पिष्टं विपाश्या । ससार सीं परावतः ॥

etadasyā anaḥ śaye susampiṣṭaṃ vipāśyā | sasāra sīṃ parāvataḥ ||

Then her shattered wagon reposed (on the bank) of the Vipās' (river), and she departed from afar.

उत सिन्धुं विबाल्यं वितस्थानामधि क्षमि । परि ष्ठा इन्द्र मायया ॥

uta sindhuṃ vibālyaṃ vitasthānāmadhi kṣami | pari ṣṭhā indra māyayā ||

You have spread abroad upon the earth, by your contrivance, the swollen Sindhu when arrested (on its course).

उत शुष्णस्य धृष्णुया प्र मृक्षो अभि वेदनम् । पुरो यदस्य सम्पिणक् ॥

uta śuṣṇasya dhṛṣṇuyā pra mṛkṣo abhi vedanam | puro yadasya sampiṇak ||

By valour you have carried off the wealth of Śuṣṇa, when you had demolished his cities.

उत दासं कौलितरं बृहतः पर्वतादधि । अवाहन्निन्द्र शम्बरम् ॥

uta dāsaṃ kaulitaraṃ bṛhataḥ parvatādadhi | avāhannindra śambaram ||

You have slain the slave Śambara, the son Kulitara hurling him off the huge mountain.

उत दासस्य वर्चिनः सहस्राणि शतावधीः । अधि पञ्च प्रधीँरिव ॥

uta dāsasya varcinaḥ sahasrāṇi śatāvadhīḥ | adhi pañca pradhī~riva ||

You have slain the five hundreds and thousands (of the followers) of the slave Varin, (surrounding) him like the fellies (round the spokes of the wheel).

उत त्यं पुत्रमग्रुवः परावृक्तं शतक्रतुः । उक्थेष्विन्द्र आभजत् ॥

uta tyaṃ putramagruvaḥ parāvṛktaṃ śatakratuḥ | uktheṣvindra ābhajat ||

You, Indra, who are Śatakratu, have made Parāvṛj, the son of Agru, participant in sacred hymns.

उत त्या तुर्वशायदू अस्नातारा शचीपतिः । इन्द्रो विद्वाँ अपारयत् ॥

uta tyā turvaśāyadū asnātārā śacīpatiḥ | indro vidvā~ apārayat ||

The lord of acts, the wise Indra, has borne across (their difficulties), Turvaśas and Yadu, when denied inauguration.

उत त्या सद्य आर्या सरयोरिन्द्र पारतः । अर्णाचित्ररथावधीः ॥

uta tyā sadya āryā sarayorindra pārataḥ | arṇācitrarathāvadhīḥ ||

You have slain at once those two Āryas, Arṇa and Citraratha, (dwellig) on the opposite (bank) of the Sarayu.

अनु द्वा जहिता नयोऽन्धं श्रोणं च वृत्रहन् । न तत्ते सुम्नमष्टवे ॥

anu dvā jahitā nayo'ndhaṃ śroṇaṃ ca vṛtrahan | na tatte sumnamaṣṭave ||

Slayer of Vṛtra you have restored the (one who was) blind, the (other who was) lame, both abandoned by their kin); (it is not possible) to exceed the happiness what is given by you.

शतमश्मन्मयीनां पुरामिन्द्रो व्यास्यत् । दिवोदासाय दाशुषे ॥

śatamaśmanmayīnāṃ purāmindro vyāsyat | divodāsāya dāśuṣe ||

Indra has overturned a hundred stone-built cities for Divodās, the donor of oblations.

अस्वापयद्दभीतये सहस्रा त्रिंशतं हथैः । दासानामिन्द्रो मायया ॥

asvāpayaddabhītaye sahasrā triṃśataṃ hathaiḥ | dāsānāmindro māyayā ||

He put to sleep, by delusion, with his destructive (weapons), thirty thousand of the servile (races), for the sake of Dabhīti.

स घेदुतासि वृत्रहन्त्समान इन्द्र गोपतिः । यस्ता विश्वानि चिच्युषे ॥

sa ghedutāsi vṛtrahantsamāna indra gopatiḥ | yastā viśvāni cicyuṣe ||

Slayer of Vṛtra, you are the same to all your worshippers, the lord of cattle, who cast down all these (your enemies).

उत नूनं यदिन्द्रियं करिष्या इन्द्र पौंस्यम् । अद्या नकिष्टदा मिनत् ॥

uta nūnaṃ yadindriyaṃ kariṣyā indra pauṃsyam | adyā nakiṣṭadā minat ||

When, indeed, Indra, you excite your vigorous manhood, there is no one at the present time who may resist it.

वामंवामं त आदुरे देवो ददात्वर्यमा । वामं पूषा वामं भगो वामं देवः करूऴती ॥

vāmaṃvāmaṃ ta ādure devo dadātvaryamā | vāmaṃ pūṣā vāmaṃ bhago vāmaṃ devaḥ karūḻatī ||

Destroyer of foes, may the divine Aryaman distribute your precious wealth; (may) Pūṣa (bestow it), (may), Bhaga (bestow it); may the toothless deity bestow the desired wealth.
